For those people who are scared about their jobs, software development doesnt require less knowledge than it did before, you still need to know the same things. It just right now you can code a bit faster.
I am scared because I am still a university student and by the time I finish my software Engineering degree and search for a job this AI will be way more advanced than now
Copilot basically copies codeblocks from Github. since it was trained on the public github repos. It doesn't really create anything that wasn't created before.
I personally don't trust AI autocomplete that much. The problem is, you have to recheck if what its written is correct and fits your logic. It can be syntax-tically correct but fail logically. It can be good to replace a lot of boiler plating we do in day to day while creating simpler components and leave us to do the hard tasks
The more it trains on our decision to choose a particular code snippet provided by it Better it gets in d future MS already has github code data and gpt3 license It only needs individual users as end data points to train its copilot algorithm to give better results Remember our choice matters
I think frontend indeed might not be the best option right now. However we still need to automate a lot of things in the world so you probably want to pick up on programming at large, more than web only. Don't give up on coding :)
Pff only suggest code and sometimes it's wrong, we have to accommodate it, When co-pilot can auto-generate pages without a single error, deploy it, implement security, implement the database, update them by themselves. You warn.
This is just speculation but here’s what I think: as this was something new, they probably allowed users with > X followers or active on GitHub first so that it would spread quickly. This also could create a feeling of being “exclusive” for some time. Not sure if this is intended but that could explain. Or maybe they just paused sending invites due to a big number of requests?
@@eveningkid yeah i saw the pattern they are giving it fast to people who are on github for long amount likt 5-6 hours have thousands of commits and stuff and have good followers those people are getting it in like 1-2 days

I feel like if this is your out look on your developer prospects, being an engineer isn't the job for you. There's more to being a software engineer than simply writing code. 90% of your job is actually being able to comprehensively understand the problem you're trying to solve. To which I'll add, who's better to write these comments for co-pilot to parse, an engineer, or someone from marketing. You have YEARS of being an engineer before you need to worry about losing your job to AI. Because fundamentally, AI NEEDS to understand the problem domain before it becomes more profficient at solving problems than an engineer. Which currently, AI at best, understands local context for the code you're currently writing. Currently, in most scenarios if you're familar with the language you're using, you're going to be much more efficient at writing code than co-pilot & when the day comes when it write's code more efficently than you, like I stated above, it still needs to be able to understand the problem you're trying to solve.
This is gonna get better couple of years from now…next it will be, describe the problem to Ai and it will code a solution or solutions. This is equivalent to the labourers in the production line of a factory back in the 90s. Goodbye devs!!
then you must believe a singularity will exist soon too, i.e. something that could in theory program itself and thus near every job would become redundant.
This is going to replace programmers maybe not now but in five years it will. Every job will eventually fall to AI. Thinking this won't happen it's just lying to yourself.
When I say scary, I mean that it'll probably replace a lot of jobs in the future and Microsoft will have a bigger stranglehold on the software engineering industry
Can Copilot center a div?
Depends if it learned from back-end dev repositories.
Underrated

It can make the style for JS and CSS, but can't center a div trough HTML Attribtutes, I've tried.
