Just recently picked up the slug in my own game of DVS. And I've grown so accustomed to just banging the throttle WFO that I have run out of fuel at the end of a couple jobs! Keep in mind this was all on level track, but I shunted a job in the military yard with a weight over 900t using the DE2 and the slug. And even with that much weight on them, running full throttle never even got the ammeter into the yellow.
Due to poor visibility in the DE6, I MUed 3 DE6 and the slug to a DH4 that is for shunting duties and as such is pretty much eternally off, and I just stand on the cab of the lead DE6 and run from the remote lol
Since the DE6 hardly ever wheelslips and can put out its full potenial mostly anyways, I kinda fail to see the advantage whereas it really helps with the DE2 regarding that and the overheating.
The DE2 with the slug is pretty much like the DE2 before the sim update, whereas it didn't have he overheating problems. So it makes sense why the estimated tonnage is still just 400t
Playing derail valley with hyce in the background and hearing his train, not sure if its his or mine, is causing me extreme anxiety. Then I hear "it's fine" and I can relax again knowing it's not me that's about to destroy something.
Still think you should grab the handcart. It'll save your F key and you can get moving pretty quick. Even faster than teleporting in realism mode when you get the lever pattern down with the scroll wheel
I have done just short of 500T with the DE2 and slug from the Harbor to food factory. it is SLOW going out of the harbor but it made it. I did get a run on the hill, hitting it at almost 50. I usually do 10 over everywhere anyways...lol it would hit 70 eventually on the long straits before i had to slow it down.
I honestly thought the slug was a distributed power unit like an unmanned locomotive that you can use MU'd to another loco. Didn't know it was just the electric motors for braking.
A slug unit isn't the same as a B unit or a cab-less RCL. Slugs are generally made out of older units when the engine is no longer useful and removed. But the traction motors are still good and can provide the main units with additional tractive effort because at slower speeds the main unit's engine can produce far more amperage than its set of traction motors can utilize. By adding in the slug's traction motors, the engine in the main unit can run harder and put down more tractive effort. But yes the slug motors can also be used for dynamic braking. Also of note is that irl a slug unit has to have a specific master unit to connect to (not just any loco will do) because it has to have many additional cables connected to transmit that electricity generated in the master unit.
DE2 Cooling question: I know the temp gauge is for the temps of the traction motors. But the vent at the front, I assume, is for the cooling of radiators, oil and the actual diesel engine/ electrical generator that powers the TM. Now I know in times gone by that running the DE2 in forwards vs. reverse would impact the cooling ability a lot. Now, irl would with such a vent in front, the cooling capacity be changed if the loco was pushing a set of cars, like a boxcar or a high orehopper or a set of coaches compared to pushing a consist of theese same cars but with a flat car inbetween loco and other consist. I have a suspicion that it will depend on the Aerodynamics of the car in front..
One thing I'm curious about is what happens when you sandwich the slug between two DE2s? Like, when you chain DE2s and have the slug on the end, only the adjacent DE2 runs the slug. Can you MU through the slug to a second DE2 and supply it with more sauce that way? If my thinking is right, DE2-Slug-DE2 should be good for 800 tons instead of 650.
You should be able to use the mu as a pass through with the slug but it won't accept more than 1 power unit to my understanding based on what info came out upon its release.
Hyce, you'd benefit greatly from purchasing the remote control. Whe I run the slug on a road train, I take the normal power on the head end and then connect the slug DE2 to the remote, so I can control from one cab.

With just the de6 slug de2 kinda looks like an articulate GMD1. I also wonder if the mechanical or the hydraulic can MU to the slug? Like it shouldn't but if it just needs the MU connection then why not
I wouldn't think so cause for one the mechanical doesn't actually have an MU connector and second from what I know of how a hydraulic works there wouldn't be any method of generating power anyway so the slug would just be an extra 150 tons
Atleast we all know that if the DE2 was converted to a tractor it would be the most over-fucking-powered tractor ever. Even more powerful than those tracked Cases.

Really useful if you don't feel like getting out of the cab. 12:52 = Smells like Copium.,
Well only one engine gets the benefits so the other 3 units would still overheat their traction motors. Kind of a bummer that the Slug can't help as many units at once but that would be game breaking then.

why are some trains wagion tops (the stream lining thing to boilers)
railway terms abd slang
one on the meaning of flag and lantern colors like green on rear engine means theres another one coming soon,
different train pilots on the front (and on back ive seen some)
the different types of cut offs/reversers/Johnson bar
some are a big lever, some are a big valve wheel, and ive also seen some that are like rods, one exsample is train sim world 3 and im not sure where to find the other reverser
you can hock it to the coupler
Question can you mu from both sides of the slug? Would that not have helped with them all being able to go in Notch 8?
The Slug can only be MU to one unit. So you can have as many engines MU as you want but only one engine gets the traction motor benefits.
@@PennsyPappas okay, that makes sense thank you for responding!
@@matthewsmith7967 you're welcome.
@7:07 coool!
Does that new option from the Feb trailer that lets you point your camera forward and move your mouse around the controls freely and not have to look at them not work yet?
Doesn't work in realistic mode... with custom settings it would be possible to use that.
When i saw this pop up in my feed i starded to giggle 😂
