That difference between Escha and Logy's side is so good. Escha feels like she's on a magical girl adventure and Logy sounds like he's going to work/ tinkering on a puzzle. Normal battle themes are better for showing how characters see things than boss themes where the theme is always stress.
Every single one of these songs have such a strong nostalgic sound. They all do a great job at bringing out each character's personalities, maybe even their ambitions. I haven't played Atelier Escha & Logy, but "My Name is Legion" and Atelier Rorona's "Full Bokko" are both brimming with personality. Totori and Stella are pretty strong as well. Not just nostalgia, no. Melodic and harmonic voicing of these tracks are inherently quality and seemingly written based on musical impulsiveness (e.g. Rorona Plus' 'Full Bokko') rather than stunted method and science like a lot of music production today. I don't particularly care for the Atelier series, but it's really sad that so few appreciate this music, as many nowadays rely strictly on elementary interpretation of music via timbre/"texture" of sound (e.g. omfg THE BASS!!!@!) as well as VOCAL LYRICS to bluntly tell them where the music's going, whereas many jrpg tracks such as these are left entirely up to emotional interpretation based on the listener's prior musically situational conditioning. A strong musical listener will bear TONS of fruit listening to this kind of music. I'm glad there are others that willingly voice their appreciation of this niche, and I wish there'd be more. I'd like to note a couple of harmonically and melodically powerful artists, that being Yuzo Koshiro and Jake Kaufman.
itsacharcoalice Gust as a developer simply has a metric ton of talent available to them when it comes to music. It's not just Atelier, but pretty much anything they do. Ar Nosurge I can't say many good things about, but Gust literally created two languages for the songs in the game, then managed to get Origa to sing a few stunning arrangements for. I honestly don't know how a studio that small does it.
itsacharcoalice As a fan of the Ar Tonelico series as a whole, I can't really recommend it, and that's hard for me to say. It requires knowledge of a game (Ciel Nosurge) that never came here to really get what's going on. The localization might just be KT's worst job I've ever seen, and while the combat is really fun, it's incredibly unbalanced. The whole game is just raw and glitchy and frustrating to play, and many of the systems don't work right, either from lack of any Ciel Nosurge save data or just savage constant bugs. Play the Ar Tonelico games, skip Ar Nosurge or rent it if you want to judge it for yourself, but check out Ar Nosurge's OST as it's incredibly good.
Meruru's Estrella is so good! Actually when I played it first time, I was like "srsly? Battle Theme? Does not fit at all" Now it's one of my favorite battle songs! It's like Meruru kicks mob asses in a Tango way.
