    I’m in awe of the actress. I have no idea where a 20 something year old girl in the modern age goes to draw inspiration to produce such a performance. She does it in a way that the viewer can ONLY believe that Sophie Scholl faced the ferocious might of the third reich with the courage and the dignity and the righteousness that almost only exists in poetry.

    Freisler was killed in an Allied bombing raid in the middle of a trial. When his corpse was brought to a hospital, someone said "It's God's verdict", and no one said anything. Even the Germans hated him.

    • @claudekonqui554
      @claudekonqui554 6 років тому +28

      Roland Freisler started as a Communist sympathizer, then became a Nazi. Hitler said of him "He is our Vychinski". He could have served the Stalinist regime as well and had he not been killed in an Allied bombing would certainly have made his way through it and become an East German Stasi zealot judge. Such fanatics can serve any totalitarian ideology without remorse, they are the pure product of terror ideology.

    It’s ironic, the Nazi’s were supposed to be a thousand year reich. And yet just 58 years later this 21 year old girl who stood up against all the power and might and the third reich is considered... by Germans... to be one of the four most important Germans of all time.

      Why though? I never understood why she was considered to be more important than say the old Kaiser. He was also a loud voice against Hitler but no one remembers him for that, likely because he wasn't executed for it.

      @@treygonzalez5252 I’m going to go out on a limb and say because the Kaiser both directly and indirectly was responsible for two world wars and the deaths of millions. And she wasn’t.

    The executioner of the Scholl siblings and Probst, Johann Reichhart, kept a ledger on all his executions - 3165 (about a third during the Weimar Republic) - making him the second "highest-ranking" hatchetman after Soviet Major General Vaili Blokhin.
    He even executed high-ranking Nazis while being on the Allies´ payroll and when in the early 1960s reintroduction of death penalty in Germany was briefly discussed (a mass murderer was at large) he was the most ardent supporter.
    Didn´t happen.
