  • Noah Gibson was a 16-year-old student at Carver Vocational Technical High School before his young life was cut short over the holiday break. His mother vowed Monday, in her words, not to lose another son to the Baltimore streets.
Noah is the face of the city's first homicide victim of 2024.
Outside her home in west Baltimore, Shantrese Gibson, the mother of the young shooting victim, stood with the name behind the number.
"Just know my son's name was Noah Ezekiel Gibson and he was just just a big heart. He was lovable," said Gibson.

Once you have a kid you’re a parent for life. 16 yrs old is STILL a kid. If your kid is mixed up in repeated criminal activity at 16 you have to stop those actions before it accelerates or becomes habit. If there are no consequences to your bad actions why stop? So many young black men in prison because they were not taught as kids to stay in school, go to college or train in a job. If you want something steal it, deal drugs, smoke weed all day get high. How boring is a life like that, there are so many possibilities out there but these kids are never shown them or encouraged. Surrounded by negative behaviors.

Wasn't encouraged by THIER parents. Every single one of them now have gun charges...my son has no record of anything. These kids are missing out on some of the BEST things in the world and you absolutely nailed it with they 'are never shown them or encouraged'. BINGO.

@@youareworthalot1228 - I'm not judging the mother, I stated facts. Baltimore is a hard city to raise kids and social media, rap music and other entities have more control than part time parents. Yes, teenagers can be disrespectful and start doing as they please meanwhile ignoring rules and structure put in place. But on the other hand, it's a lot of mothers who haven't been consistence in raising their children and treat them as friends instead as their child. It's a case-by-case situation but it's an alarming rate of adults not parenting their kids to the standard that's needed or the best of their ability. Sad to see these young kids senselessly dying or the victim of violence. Most of these situations dissected, you will see signs of neglect that got us to this point. Face it, a kid with a gun, selling drugs or committing crimes isn't a baby anymore whether Moms what's to admitted or not.

If kids can’t have credit cards,house/cars,sex,alcohol or tobacco, they’re a child 🤷🏾‍♂️ if a child is violated you go to jail because they’re a child make it make sense, don’t open the flood gates to love is love no matter WHO it’s with 😒

There needs to be consequences for your actions. After one child, public assistance benefits should decrease substantially, and after two children, you're on your own. The monies we spend sustaining people who have multiple children out of wedlock could instead be used to fund affordable childcare for those couples who chose to responsibly have children in structured two parent homes, etc.

Not much has changed in 50 years in Baltimore. My father-in-law, father of eight children, was murdered by two selfish blacks on Jan.2,1974. He had served his country in military service and was providing for his family. If they had been executed for their actions, it may have sent a message to future criminals not to follow in their footsteps. This might have prevented this latest homicide that occurred on Jan.2,2024

  • @JayAllen-oq7hi

Here's the root of the problem. Baltimore has a sperm donor for a Mayor. He got his girlfriend pregnant. The baby was born after 9 months. He still hasn't married his girlfriend now with a child. If the two of them go their separate ways for any reason, this child will have no fatherly discipline. Since she'll need to work, the child can't possibly receive the love and guidance from a 2 parent structured marriage. If he's bold enough to be a Mayor and tackle problems in the city, then he should be bold enough have gotten married first, build a strong relationship with his wife, and then, start a family. So, teenagers look at this poor, pitiful excuse of a role model and tell themselves, if it's ok for him, it's ok for me. And he's a Mayor. So, it's possible that his offspring, could end up just like his dad. A sperm donor that doesn't take responsibility for his actions. And if he's out on the street at 2am. there's a good chance that he may never live past 25. The cycle needs to be broken and the only way that's going to happen is when a mother and father sit down with a child and read scriptures from the Master Teacher, Jesus. It's all there written in the Bible. Open it and read it. It will make a HUGE difference.

Why would you let your child be out at 2 AM?
I never let my children out.
Run in the streets at that time of the morning.
When kids are out at that time of the morning, It's not them, but trouble.
    Parent should be held.
Accountable for their children You can't control your kids. I've always controlled my kids. My kids are grown now and i'm still very involved in their life everyday

Bullshit you can't control your children. I'm 41 and just had my first child because my parents stayed in our ass. There is no way I'd be 16 and out at two in the morning. My parents knew what we were doing, who we were with. At 16 we fortunate if we were allowed to leave our front yard, and that's being raised in a bad neighborhood.

Stop talking about people and pray for them. There are no parenting instructions. Y’all talking about that lady and don’t know nothing about her or her parenting. Maybe he should have been in, but maybe he was late coming in on his own. Everyone knows how some teenagers are.

It seems that in baltimore kids aren't nstilled with the importance of an education. If I'm not mistaken parents are responsible for their children until 18.
