@@devtrash What are you talking about.....They found him lame out at pasture, he has a history of going lame so they gave him a day there before bringing him back to the farm to keep an eye on him, they asked for the professionals to come and have a look at him as they suspected it may be his shoulder, the hoof guy and the vet. These pros do not come out in 10 mins as they are always fully booked and very busy as there are not many about. The vet advised them to give him a few days to see if he improved. It's not like you can throw a 1000kg bull in the back of the car and nip down to A&E for an Xray, nor is it safe to start messing with an injured anmal of this size without it being restrained. The bull had been up and eating and even trying to serve. Once they all came to the same diagnosis the decision was made to put him down. This requires a licienced slaughterman by law, again very busy and not many around so a 24hour wait for him was not bad at all actually. It is clear that Tom has the upmost respect for all his animals, cares and provides for them far above what most pet owners do. You can't just run out and shoot a prized bull in the field the moment there is a problem there is a process to undertake which with animals of this size takes time. Many people have no idea how the countryside works, this is why this channel is an excellent education tool on the reality of farming.

@@stevenjohns7017 What a great answer,... I totally agree with you. Some ppl think its just easy to cull animals... they dont understand the process or paperwork involved. As you said, Tom gave Neptune a bit of time to recover but it just got worse (or at least stayed the same) so started the process of getting a slaughterman to the farm to take care of him... Again... What a great answer you gave, Thank you.

Some might think that being a farmer makes it easier to deal with the loss of an animal. As you have clearly shown, it doesn't. They aren't pets, but if we are honest with ourselves, we often afford them as much affection as we would a dog or a cat in our homes. Especially when they are as special as Neptune was. You looked after him well. Very well indeed. In return, he served you well. Putting him out of his misery was both professional and kind.

It is easy to get attached to them as he learns their personalities, so when they hurt, he hurts too. He has shown many young cows at these events and he has numerous trophies and ribbons. He was even rewarded with a personalized buckle, for one of his showings, he was SO proud of that cowboy buckle! 👍😁

Watch all your videos, Tom, but have never previously commented. RIP Neptune, 'the man, the myth, the legend'. Having owned a variety of animals over the years - from Silke hens through alpacas to donkeys and ponies - I can concur that it's NEVER easy losing an animal, however big (or small!). However, the reason I've been moved to comment today is your latest UA-cam post. Breaking news like this to people who farm is one thing, but breaking it to the countless thousands who DON'T, requires a sensitive approach, and for what its worth, I think you carried it off with 'aplomb'.

It might just be the way he's lying on it but as ambulance staff; that straight on shot at 8:25 tells a big story - you see that left shoulder appeara significantly swollen and the anatomy appears mis-shapen to me. In humans we would say that would be enough to suspect a fracture/dislocation.
Its a shame, but like you say, in a bull that size with that much weight through his legs it's never going to heal properly and he will be in a lot of pain (which from what viewers have said on other videos I understand may cause fertility issues)
He will be missed, but its for the best.

The first video of yours that caught my eye was of Neptune! I have enjoyed every glimpse of him and watching his calves born on your farm. He will always be an important part of your farm. His legacy lives on in his offspring. I hope your next bull is as prolific as this special, gentle giant of a lady's man! RIP Neptune. You have earned your final pasture in the sky!

It's crazy how invested I feel in this whole scenario of Neptune passing I never for the slightest a few years ago taught that a farmer was attached or how well yous look after your animals I can only compare it to losing my pet dog and that was hard I feel for you Tom you do a great job with every animal you have Neptune wouldn't of asked for a better bunch of people to look after him youre a true gentleman and great farmer Tom love your videos mate ❤

Neptune was a beautiful animal and so well cared for. I feel your pain. When you take care of animals and live them like you do, their loss is always so difficult. Thank you for sharing this video. You were right when you said “this is what happens on a farm”. Life! Looking forward to seeing the next bull at home on your farm.

Still a tear jerker. He reminded me of one my my uncles Angus Bulls. Super affectionate and super gentle even for a bull. Neptune served well and was treated with as much care as you could ever possibly give him and his disposition around you was well apparent. He was a good lad and was certainly a beautiful mass of a bull even cute and adorable some might say. He always looked like you could feel that he was saying "Hi Dad" or "Hey brother".
