I think that MSU has 3 key areas that need to see improvement for a better season next year.
Strength and Conditioning: I trust the current staff given their track record, but we cannot have a 2nd straight season of starting 5th and 6th stringers by the final game. That cannot happen if you’re looking for a successful full season. I trust the new S&C staff, but their program needs to take strides this offseason.
The Offensive line: MSU’s worst position group wasn’t the secondary, I’d argue it was the o-line. So many back breaking holding calls, so many missed blocking assignments, so many losses in 1 on 1 situations. They didn’t pass block well, they didn’t lead block well, and they didn’t run block well. MSU will go no where unless there are strides made in the trenches on offense.
The Pass Rush: MSU is going on 5 years now where they’ve struggled to pressure the QB in big ten play. It’s quite terrible when you go a full calendar month without a sack. Rossi needs to really make some adjustments to the scheme as well and hit the portal hard for some more athleticism so we can better pressure the QB next year.
MSU is clearly building, and I trust the staff and everything their vision entails, this year was so much better than 2023 it wasn’t even funny, but early inconsistency and late injuries and fatigue prevented MSU from reaching the goal of a bowl game. I think next year 6-6 is a minimum, given that every first year staff usually starts slower, especially at a complete reclamation project like Michigan State. I trust the process and the coaches.
Side note, love the content Sam. Been watching since 2021 and really appreciate how despite being a UofM fan you’re always unbiased and fair to us Spartan fans. Hope you have a happy holidays.

Need a bowl next year for sure. I'd like to see visible OL improvement, would payoff huge for the rebuild. Go Green!

It is worth noting that our AD is directing an additional 20 million dollars of university revenue per year to our NIL fund starting this next year. This announcement was just made about a month ago. We’ve also already gotten some additions through the portal that look somewhat promising.

Actually all schools in the Big ten will receive $20 million for NIL

@ Our AD announced that it was MSUs revenue specifically. That an additional 20 million would be taken out of. Not sure what you mean.

MSU needs Phil Knight or lots of NIL money, a new stadium. Love coach Smith and his staff

It is going to be harder to develop a program as long as there is NIL. It seems every year there are many players looking to make more money by entering the portal.

It makes it really hard for any and every team to build meaningful depth

Their recruiting class is very subpar, especially in this era of CFB.

Mel Tucker has broken this program that's for sure

Need to fix the OLine, actually get Chiles some protection. Need to get Chiles to get rid of bad habits, learn the basics/footwork, reading defense, and turnover work. WR and HB I’m fine with honestly. And our defense needs a complete revamp to be able to perform Rossi’s defense effectively: We saw some glimmers of what is possible, but our personnel is just not great.

Did Mel Tucker get railroaded? Talk about rollercoaster rides! Dunno.

How can one " get railroaded" when he took his junk out in a zoom call with the rape counselor?

Smith turned oregon state into a top ten program, msu I's way better all around, I'd be surprised if smith didn't make his way up the pole into playoff picture and a natty one day!
