My favs are Leonard and Tyson but the best fighter i saw that dominated for the longest time was Roy Jones. Didnt have a close fight for almost 14 years until he löst hes reflexes at 35. Hes style was very dependet on reflexes. Also have to say he dont get enough cred for hes win vs Ruiz. Ruiz wasnt the greatest hevyweight champ of all time but he was decent. He fought Evander like 8 months after Evander fought Lewis and it was really close. He also beat Rashman who koed Lewis. Roy who had hes prime at middle/supermiddle (he even could have won a titel at lightmiddle, he had Lots of fights there) goes up and dominates a heavyweight champ, thats impressive in my eyes even if that champ wasnt an all time great.
korvstopparen yeah roy Jones jnr in he’s prime was very exciting to watch like naseem hamed was, unorthodox skills, but unfortunately that kind off style as get older will catch up with you as rely on reflexes and speed movement,I’ve seen all the fights Muhammad Ali in he’s prime for a heavyweight was unbelievable too but he did copy sugar Ray Robinson,Leonard combos and hand speed was brilliant too,Mike Tyson was good while he’s fights lasted, and Lennox Lewis was always good boxer to watch all the fundamentals jab cross hook,

He’s mine also. Not only could the guy fight toe to toe like an absolute warrior but he could adapt to hit without being hit. His legendary boxing ability aside, Sugar Ray is a gentleman and all around cool dude.
Mine has always been Hearns. The way he turned frail into Lean & Mean under the guidance of Manny Steward and the thousands of hours at Kronk. That straight right was so vicious.
Ray Leonard is a Hall of Famer no doubt. But IMO he not on the same level as Monzon, Hagler, Sugar Ray Robinson, Emile Griffith. These are top tier boxers. Leonard got beat by Duran, Hagler, Hearns rematch, Terry Norris and some dude called Hector Camacho who's a lightweight. That's five legit losses. So I don't know what you guys are talking about
I met Sugar Ray Leonard a few years ago a week or two after watching his fight with Floyd Mayweather Sr. on UA-cam back when I was in college. He got out of a car right in front of me, all I did was say "What's up champ?" And he smiled and replied "What's up champ" right back and shook my hand. I didn't bother him for a photo and I am still proud of that even though I would like to have a photo to remember that great moment.

One of my favorites lately has been canelo, he seems to get better every fight. Great head movement, punches in combinations, smart well thought out combos, uses angles wisely, speed, power, murderous body puncher amongst head hunters. @@Pantheonslayer He’s definitely a great fighter and has the competition to make his stake as the greatest fighter. I think it’s not him but management
I enjoy watching, more than any fighter of my era, Roberto Duran, for so many reasons...the ruthless, unglamorous, scientific way he dissected his opponents... the fearless defiance... those pathological, beady eyes with the famous sneer... four legitimate titles (the last title at age 37 through dismantling a larger, younger, hungry champion in Iran Barkley)... the way the ravenous fans from the tiny nation of Pamana would take over the crowds at his fights in any location... nothing would get me more excited than when an announcer would call his name before the faceoff to a televised fight. Sugar Ray Leanoard was the poster boy for boxing... but Roberto "Hands of Stone" Duran was the purest savage of any fighter I've ever seen, in a former featherweight that moved up to eventually take on the best of the best, in the greatest era of the middleweight division.

Frazier was a total badass. But I gotta say, my favorite, Mike Tyson would have SMOKED smoking Joe. Possibly even faster than George did it. Mike would have come out much more aggressive than George did and had almost everything in buckets more than Joe did (movement, speed, power, inside game, pressure) other than heart of course, Joe had much more heart than Mike. But that wouldn't come into play as Mike would have gotten him right outta there... Just my opinion brother.
October 4th I use to think that too but... Frazier would not have been intimidated by Tyson, Foreman was twice the size of Frazier and Frazier just kept coming even after 6 knockdowns. Tyson did not have Frazier’s heart. No way Tyson can go 15 rounds. What if Frazier can get through the first 5 and pop Tyson with that left a few times. Tyson could cave. It would be awesome.
@@izzifamilyadventures5490 I hear your points brother. But plenty of guys who werent afraid of Tyson still got blown out or slowly broken down and made ineffective by him. Bruno, Ruddock, Tubbs, Holmes (not prime), Tucker, Tillis, Smith and so on. Several of them were very hard hitters and caught Tyson with massive shots on his way in and still he managed to keep his game plan and win. I could see Frazier if he made it deep being more effective, but there is no reason to think Tyson can't go 15 rounds. That 20 through 23 year old Tyson had zero stamina issues, an iron chin, and just far more fundamental and physical advantage over Joe I think. But if Joe lasted past 3 or 5, yeah he would have a chance to get in Tyson's head and do like Holyfield did.
@@october4th475 Mike Tyson like his father George Foreman like his father sonny liston can't go 15 rounds without getting totally dismantled by a master boxer.

For me, it has to be Sugar Ray Leonard too. I did get to see him once up close. He was sparring for the Hearns fight in Los Angeles and a buddy of mine asked me to drive from the Valley to go watch him. When we got to the gym it was an old two story brick building in a pretty much completely black neighborhood. I was the only "white boy" there, and my buddy was Japanese, so we really stood out in the crowd hanging outside the gym. We walked to the crowd hanging outside the door of the gym and asked if Sugar Ray was still there and were told yes, he was sparring upstairs. We asked if we could go in and were told "sure", so we did. When we got upstairs it was hot as hell and the smell of sweat was thick in the humid air. Sugar Ray had just finished sparring and was dripping sweat. He was talking to all those watching and it was shoulder to shoulder and standing room only in the small room the ring was in. Someone asked him if he would beat Tommy and he responded without hesitation "I'm going to knock him out", and added "I'm serious, I'm gonna knock him out". After Ray told us he had to leave we walked downstairs and outside and hung with the locals for a bit. Since we didn't get to see him spar we asked how he looked and who he'd sparred with. We were told he'd been there all week working out, and this was his last day of sparring before the fight. They said local guys who worked out at the gym had been sparring with Ray and "today the last one really tried to take Sugar Ray out". Said he'd been trying to throw haymakers for a few rounds but Ray was to slippery for him, and that finally Ray got tired of the guy winging punches at him and tagged him hard on the chin and put him on his ass for a few minutes, and that's how the sparring sessions ended. I was bummed we didn't get there a few minutes earlier and get to see that, but it was still a thrill to see him up close, and in the ring. What really impressed me is that he was there, in old Los Angeles, hanging out with regular folks and his real fans, not in some air-conditioned high priced luxury hotel suite or exclusive gym, and he'd been working his ass off there all week hanging out with the locals. Everyone there loved him, and Ray loved being there with them, that was as clear as can be.
Leonard and Duran at their peak are the two greatest fighters ever. They mastered every boxing skill that exists, offense and defense and they had no weaknesses. Duran’s peak was his late lightweight reign years up to the 1st Leonard fight. After that fight he partied and put on 30 lbs and was never the same. Leonard’s peak was first title up to the torn retina.
@@Onedayatatime50 If you think Marciano is the only great white boxer to ever exist then not only are you racist but you also don't know shit about boxing either. I mean just in the modern era alone you've got a bunch of "white" boxers achieving greatness - Lomachenko, Klitschkos, Fury, Golovkin, Canelo, Usyk, Beterbiev, etc. And then there are many more from the past, throughout the history of boxing. You sound like an ignorant casual with a bigoted confirmation bias on top of it.
Can't argue with Teddy's pick. Sugar Ray Leonard was amazing and came out of that golden 76 Olympic Team. Remember seeing the Hagler - Leonard fight on closed circuit. What an amazing performance by both.
What a great story, particularly when you do something that helps people to overcome a difficult moment, that shows the human side of people we look up to.
Love Ray Leonard myself, but he did duck one man - Aaron Pryor. But he wasn't the only onethat ducked Pryor. So did all the other biggest named champions in or near his weight class.

Great comments especially about the fact that there is only 1 Sugar Ray Leonard never before and certainly not after and you pretty much had to be there to relate to the brilliance and unbelievable charisma of Leonard he was one of a kind!
My favorite boxer is Sugar Ray Leonard hands down. We were both born in the DMV and I watched every fight of his as a kid. I helped survey his house in Palmer Park. Wonderful person, awesome fighter. Dude traded hands with Cuevas, Hearns, Duran and Hagler and beat them all, but Roberto got him once. Roberto was incredible also. They all were. I was blessed to watch boxing during that time.
Wow, man do I agree with this. Teddy summed up how I felt about Sugar Ray, but I guess I kinda forgot how I felt. As a kid He was it for me. He had IT!
I agree sugar ray Leonard was cut from a different cloth to normal men (unique). He is special and I dont think we will ever get anyone who even comes close to how intelligent he was in the ring.when that man speaks be quite and listen carefully as he's always giving you so much knowledge (gems)
The welterweight Ray Leonard was as complete a fighter as you'll ever see. In a less than 2-year span, he outboxed a master boxer (Benitez), foolishly but admirably brawled with the most scientifically savage fighter ever (Duran) and then walked through an all-time great Puncher (Hearns). All 3 guys were under 30. Unfortunately, the detached retina of '82 changed everything but he's still top 25 ever IMO with less than 40 fights.
He not even close money fake mayweather coulnd not stand up to the 4 kings era period he picked and choosed his matches who he could beat .he would be knocked out by srl , tommy , duran or hagler. Pryor, ect. And ive watched and studied them all.
Great conversation with Teddy Atlas. I've always thought that if you combine Robinson's and Leonard's skills you have THE complete fighter. Ray Robinson was pretty much the complete fighter anyway; put him together with Ray Leonard and he becomes invincible. Thanks for uploading.
My favorite fighter was Finito Lopez. He came out his corner with his guard up.Freddy Pacheco would say he slept with guard up.That was his trade mark.He always said he was not the best. He always said other fighters were better than him. He was undefeated for 12 year's never loosing a fight.I liked his personality, his style of fighting, never running, but embarrassing the the fight.
From what i've seen Sugar Ray Leonard is probably the most all rounded boxer off all time. So natural, crazy fast, but could take it and give it out and had an engine that could take him 15 rounds or more. Always sticks out as one of the most natural all round boxers, all time
I wasn't alive to see it when it happened lol, but when Sugar Ray Leonard beat the Marvelous Marvin Hagler RIP..(many say Hagler still won that fight) I was heartbroken. My father raised me kn boxing and as a huge Hagler fan, so when I saw that fight..it was tough, looking back on it as an adult, Leonard was very smart and truly a talented ass fighter..Legend.
I can't narrow it down to just one. Alexis Arguello, Salvador Sanchez both come to mind of guys I just love watching. I like their form and style. Ray Leonard is freakin awesome too......Duran's comeback fights against Moore and Barkley are fun. I could keep going.
My favorite fighter is Gene Tunney his technical skills was just beyond its time in those fighting days and to get knock down like that by jack dempsey and still resume fighting to get the win is remarkable and a very underrated moment in boxing history.

Mine is Smoking Joe Frazier. His story, left hook, and his relentless aggression.
@@EinsteinKnowedIt Like I said, there is no reason to think Tyson in his prime would have ANY trouble going 15 rounds. Mike never showed stamina issues until much later when he shouldnt have been fighting. You can say you think Mike couldnt have done it, but its not based on anything.
They both would have beaten prime Robinson at welter.
