How about South African boots? Dutch in Indonesia & Dutch in S. Africa! Is there a connection in their boot making history? I just made this connection! Think about it!

Wow finally Sagara. Thanks for your honest review. Next maybe you could do a review Japanese boots company like White Kloud or Visvim, many boot makers from Indonesia said good things from them.
Oh, do you have any plan to make video about boot/leather care and how to maintain them?
    Thanks.

I personally am not the biggest fan of Visvim boots, I feel that they are very much overpriced and not very durable.

Yeah the founder of Santalum, another Indonesian boot I've tried, says he gets a lot of his inspiration from White Kloud. Here's a video I did on Red Wing care ua-cam.com/video/ZP7yw8wGgVE/v-deo.html and I did a big article on waterproofing stridewise.com/how-to-waterproof-nice-boots/

Agree 💯% that Visvim Boots are way over priced, your mainly paying for the name and that their supposedly all hand stitched. I’ve only seen a couple models that look durable but not for $1500. Their more about fashion than durability & quality.

@@JJ-lu6mg Not even fashion because they copy the classic designs - they slap on visvim label and think they can get away charging 20x the cost. Would never buy.

Hey man. I'm sure you've gotten a lot of these already but: keep on making great content.
I came across your channel just about when I got my first pair of Iron Rangers, and at the same time just got into leatherworking and learning about leather. I've actually learned a great deal about what makes for quality leather just from watching your channel.

I've been hearing more about these Eastern MTO companies, and I'll admit I'm curious about them. I'd probably be more open to going through the process if they manage to get their hands on some of the more exotic leathers like Truman and Viberg offer.
Have you considered making a video comparing sole wear over time? Such as showing a boot's outsole when new, then at X months of wear, followed by X years of wear? Ultimately with a goal of showing different outsole durability (e.g. JR vs any other leather outsole). I'm most curious in the rubber comparisons like Vibram commando, mini lug, or whatever vs corded rubber; or Dainite vs Sestiere vs proprietary rubber.

Nice to see this review! I think I might go with Sagara for my next pair of Indonesian MTO boots. I have a pair of Txture service boots made with kudu leather from Charles F. Stead - really high level of finish and care put into making them, but they're definitely not as sturdy as my American boots. I had a speedhook pop out and squeaky heels (easy and cheap fixes for a local cobbler). But still, the level of customization and build quality for fully handmade boots for your money from the Indonesian bootmakers seems unrivaled for now.

They have very nice customer service, like they educated their customers about boots and the details. I got a pair of them, the Boondocker boots with rough-out leather and been using them since 2016, overall the boots is comfortable, durable and easy to style. but since I only have a pair which is a rough-out leather and can't really use for dress up so i go for rugged style. but sure thing i might get another pair of sagara

Dear Stridewise, nice review. I tried at least 3 different Indonesian Shoemakers, but Sagara never fails me. My first purchase was 2014 Sagara Imperial IV, and I bought another Imperial IV in 2019. It seems that Sagara has developed better sock liner/insole. Well IMHO Sagara is one of the best for work boots & casual boots. But when it comes about dressier shoes there are some other brands like fortuna shoes / jalan sriwijaya (also Indonesian made) which is very popular among shoe snobs in Jpan. Great review anyway, I appreciate your neutral
    point of view

    • @pranidhanaabhiyoga6485
      @pranidhanaabhiyoga6485 2 роки тому

@@TunaStrata it depends on the type of leather. My Imperial IV is chrome tanned dark brown cigar pull up, it tends to crease easily on the vamp area. But I think it's not Sagara's issue, it happened too on other local brands. With arround 3 to 6 month for MTO, if you have more budget you should upgrade to imported leather.

At least I have experienced from 7 brands bootmakers and sagara the most long wait time for mto. But they have everything, shoelast, upper, model etc, but sagara not flexible as another brands. They wouldn't except detail if that out from they mainframe. My tips, if you want mto from Indonesian bootmakers please makesure what do you want to make. You must to know your preference upper, const, lining, sole, model etc. Because in my experienced consultation periode it's irritated me.

I'd imagine these are structurally in a whole other class. Not to mention as an MTO you can pick anything (colors, lasts, speedhook finish, soles, trim color, stitching color, etc.) I think the deal is awesome but less interesting in this case because a rather cheap leather was chosen. For probably $50ish more, this could have been CXL, Italian calf, horse hide, maybe even kudu.
