I understand your criticism about the sudden inclusion of Cait there, but at the same time I realize that showing that he was present, that he ultimately decided to do the right thing and not just satisfy with words when action was required, was important. So yeah, I am a bit torn about that scene, I am... Ultimately there was really no way of including him in that scene _without_ breaking the pace and distracting from the main event a bit, but I'm thankful that they did include him anyway. It'll pay off in the next part.

Such an incredible portion of the game. Great insights as usual! One connection I made after several viewings is how much the scene of Aerith as a child at the train graveyard adds depth to her interaction with kids throughout the game, particularly Marlene. Aerith had such a painful, lonely childhood that it's as if she's doing everything she can to prevent others from having a similar fate. She's consistently shown to be ultra protective and supportive of kids. Just another example I appreciate of the team's subtle showing rather than telling.

I also think you and others who follow your videos might appreciate this analysis I came across at one point about the train graveyard scene:
“This whole scene was a lot more impactful in Japanese actually. "Kakurenbo", or "Hide and Seek" has a very strict set of call and response phrases in Japanese, namely "mou ii yo!" which means "I'm ready!" and when the seeker finds you, they say "mitsuketa!" which means "found you!". The importance of the phrases is not the words themselves, rather it's the roles and actions they point to. It's important to say the right phrase at the right time in the right role, because as children it reinforces the sense of group belonging, which is extremely important in Japanese culture. It's baked into a lot of children's games so that they learn from an early age how to properly fulfill a role in a given group. When Aerith says "mou ii yo!" she is properly fulfilling her role as the hider, but when no one says "mitsuketa! (or the shorter and informal "mikke")" back to her, the message is that she doesn't belong. She did what she was supposed to, but she wasn't included in the group all the same. That's a crushing blow not only to a child, but particularly a Japanese child. When Tifa finally says it, what that means is that Aerith is a part of their group, and that it's okay that she never fit in as a kid. Tifa is saying she has a group to belong to now, or a place to call home, if you will. Tifa fully understands the impact of saying that, and it was her way of telling Aerith that she accepts her.”

Thank you so much for watching! I like how that brings more context to her fantastic scene with Marlene in the next chapter. Really adds more depth to her and all the characters. Cool to know that about the Japanese too. Of course that’s not a part of our culture so we cant lament that it wasn’t voiced as it’s impossible, but it’s awesome to see what Nojima was going for there, though I think it’s just as emotional in the English.

What hits me the most is hearing the number of deaths caused from the plate falling, which was around 50,000

Nice that you notice the Tifa and Barret connection. It was something really missing from the original and these two are literally mother and father of Marlene.

I loved this. A lot of streamers never show Barret any love, so I’m glad to see you give credit to both his characterization and John Eric Bentley’s performance. He carries so much of the emotional content that makes this feel like a truly cinematic experience.
(AND I felt the same way you did about Elmyra’s janky ass thinking it was her place to tell him how to act about finding out his daughter was safe.)
And yes, seeing Wall Market still was aaalmost as chilling as that Sephiroth scene.

The plate crash into Barrett’s emotional reaction was such a roller coaster for me. I went from “WTF were they thinking adding Cait Sith there to such an emotional moment, TERRIBLE DECISION!” to “OMG BARRET THIS SCENE IS PERFECTION!”

Chapter 12 is definitely one of the best (if not THE best?) chapters in the Remake. I love it so much! ♥

I agree, it has so many big moments and it was epic after the slow pace of the sewers and train graveyard to so much action. Good pacing.

Cait Sith the cat creature probably confused everyone who never played the original FF7, but there's a huge reason they are there (more than fan service) and them being dismayed by the plate collapse. They should've added that to the background as more an easter egg than full focus though, I agree. Also the music when the plate falls should've been more sombre like the boss fight rather than upbeat hard rock. The pillar battle is a great moment though, very tense.

For a request, I would personally like for you to have a collab with a UA-camr named "Bio-Roxas" as he does a lot of breakdowns related to Kingdom hearts and FF7R, and I would love for you to do few discussions on them! (I know you already done it with someone on your theorizing FF7R ending video, but I would love to see it)

@@PhilipHarts well, lets suppose Caith Sith appear in game 2 (he probably will?). New players will remember the cat from the game 1 and will either speculate a) if he's with shinra or 2) he's a true ally since he cried after seeing Midgar destroyed.
In the end I don't think it changes anything, you know. It was just a cameo for old fans. Also Caith Sith is badass lol.

I'm gonna be blunt, but your ignorance is the reason you think Cait Sith's presence was bad.
Cait Sith is controlled by Reeves, who told the president of ShinRa not to drop the plate. So Cait being there shows that Reeves is seeing the destruction of the plate through Cait's eyes without being present at the scene so he can remain "neutral" in the eyes of the President.
