Kitchen shelves look so good and make it look so much more homely and less studenty. I would extend the worktop to the right of the cooker adding in an extra piece and would then do as you said and put some shelves in the alcove above the new worktop bit. You could also put some shelving below the worktop too. Someone else suggested putting an Ikea kitchen trolley underneath the new shelves which would look great and be added storage for your toaster and other items. If it's on wheels, you can roll it out to access shelves under the new worktop?
I second this recommendation! Ikea has several affordable kitchen cart/trolley options (depending on the alcove size/depth) that could provide additional worktop space, additional storage underneath that could be accessed when you pull the trolley out, plus room above for more cute open shelves. One might have to reconsider where the broom and vacuum then go, but I think the additional counter space would be worth it! PS-I'm obsessed with these vlogs, don't ever doubt your content, Lucy! We all LOVE watching your wholesome crafting adventures and DIY home projects. Keep 'em coming! :)
Absolutely loving Adam's shed tour! I always love your content, just makes me feel warm and cozy - does that make any sense!? Kitchen shelves look fab and I think the open pantry idea is lovely, you could do them half way down then have one of those kitchen trolleys which will also give you a little bit more counter space :) x
As someone who has something similar and kind of hates it - a butcher's block on wheels (partners family heirloom) - get one with a back bc it's SO annoying having stuff drop when you move it or put anything in it. Plus the down side of open storage - it can make your space feel cluttered very quickly if you don't have time to keep on top of it. Or just yaknow, find a better place to store your Tupperware #tinyflatproblems
Professional weaver here 🙋I've got a degree specialising in all kinds of weaving and it looks great! A tip for when you're setting up the warp would be that when you get to tying off the last warp end you can check the tension isn't too tight by pressing down gently on all of the warp yarns. They should move down slightly and bounce back but not be so slack that they can wiggle freely. Hope this helps! Keep going, love the colour palette!
I think the only goal in my life that matters is to be able to remove a spider with as much grace and decorum as you just did. My current action plan is yelling 'SPIDER', retreating out of the room then waiting for tim to arrive with a mug and card. I have literally gone over 20 hours without entering my own bedroom. It is a serious issue, I must do better. lol. Back to your lovely vlog I go after that moment of self reflection. Lots of love xx
Definitely do some shelves over where the mops are but can we just take a moment for the Nespresso pod holder ( & share a link for your girl over here). Another great vlog Lucy 👏👏👏
Fellow small kitchen owner RE clutter corner: Hang all your various mops and stuff - either use hooks and thread a loop through all your handles or you can buy mop handle clippy thingies (wow technical) and like have a place for all of them. This then gives you space on the floor to hide your recycling and other stuff you don't want to look at (pro tip get a recycling bucket of some sort, game changer and less of a pain in the arse to actually take out). Then see how much space you have at the top and pop in some shelves for stuff. Idk the main thing people say about small spaces is go up but keep the colours light Kettle - deffo move to the other side of the hob, you won't notice it being there as much as you think and also it's just kinda handy? Good luck!
Lucy just a idea why don’t you get a butcher block style trolley for that little gap to give you more work surface and storage they tend to have shelves underneath. Xxx
Great job on the shelves! If I were you I would’ve put shelving on the wall in line with the cupboards but some sort of moveable storage on the floor. Ikea has a small kitchen island thing on wheels, that could possibly fit in that corner. Or some sort of bar cart/rollable storage so you kan have more storage and free up some counter space.
Love the shelves! I'd find a cabinet or something space saving from ikea for that corner. Perhaps even extend the work surface down that side with storage underneath ? x
ikea book shelf for the fridge gap. House dry goods and other pantry items up top, and shoes down the bottom out of sight.. Easy and may look like an extension to the cabinets. You could ever look at ikea pantries with a door to further hide food supplies, and make remove the door to existing top cabinets and use those for open shelving? Or you could get a kitchen block on wheels for that corner and move the toaster/kettle on to that and add open shelves above the block?
I would suggest getting a rolling kitchen island to stick in that corner. Gives you more bench space to spread out the kettle/toaster but also storage too.
Yes open shelves for sure! That’s what we did for our tiny kitchen, microwave, toaster, small appliances fit and out of the countertops. Shelves are looking good! Definitely brightened the space.
The shed tour most definitely did not disappoint 👌 the wait was fully worth it 👌😂🤣 the long wave at the end really had that professional flair *roll credits* 😂😂
This could not have come at a better time - thank you Lucy! Had the absolute worst day and just finished a major meltdown! Your vlog, a cuppa and a chocolate digestive is just the ticket!
We have a random little nook in our kitchen too and a bar cart/utility cart fits well. You could put your kettle and toaster there and then have open shelving above!
Love Adam’ s fascinating shed tour! I definitely think you should do the open shelves. They would look really lovely. You could even put the kettle and toaster on them.
My husband and I have only really ever put up simple IKEA shelves to hold some photo frames and knickknacks, so never bothered with finding the wall studs or anything. We just recently moved into a new apartment that had an enormous empty space above the kitchen sink that I wanted proper shelves for. Let me tell you, it took THREE WEEKS of cursing & tantrums to get those shelves up!! So your extra 2 hours are perfect, lmao! It was out first attempt to put up floating shelves, as well. A mess.
Get a 1x4 Kaliax from Ikea - put the shoes in boxes on the bottom 2 shelves leaving 2 shelves or 3 if you use the top as well for storage. It would fit the space well.
I’ve been crafting too! So far I’ve learnt how to embroider and cross stitch! Also started following the company that make the craft subscription so I think I’ll definitely get on that!
Fun story, I actually majored in weaving! My major was Fiber Construction and Design aka, loom weaving and basket weaving. You're doing great at it Lucy!
I think the open shelves are a great idea but leave a gap at one end with just the top shelf and put some divets in it to hang your brush, mop and hoover? That will clean the space up even more. And if you don't want it open you could put a nice curtain over it? 😁 x
I love your vlog during this quarantine! I think adding open shelves is a great idea! You can use it for pantry space. Just leave room in the corner for your broom, mop, and stick. (ps I had a stick like that which worked as a workout tool for me. I’d twist from side to side with my arm on the pole, then reach down with your stick-arms, right arm to left foot and vice versa. They called it the waist whittler.)
Also binge watching Disney videos to get through - even planning a trip just to have something to look forward to. Would love a Disney holiday advice video if you're up for it!! x
Really feel for you with the lack of kitchen storage (I'm a kitchen designer). For the bit of space you have I'd recommend getting maybe a small butchers block on caster wheels? Little bit more worktop space which can be moved around and it could provide a couple of drawers or a cupboard for extra storage. Have a look on ebay!
I’d put a little metal utility cart behind the shoe area! Then you can put the kettle on the top of it and kind of extend the counter while also using the bottom couple shelves for crisps or other food storage. You could still even put maybe 3 or 4 shelves on the wall above it too.
Looking really good!! You could put that spice rack up on the wall just above where it is at the moment, which would give you space to put the kettle/ have a bit more work surface. Also you could get an Ikea shoe cabinet to go under the new shelves - they come in white and are quite shallow - the shoes would be hidden but still accessible and you would have another surface. Plus you could put a kitchen trolley with a butcher block work surface in the corner and open shelves with baskets above.
I literally sat down and watched Too Hot To Handle in one sitting (as in genuinely a single toilet break) while embroidering, so I'm right there with you
I seen someone mention a trolley to place under the shelves - this sounds like a lovely idea for your kitchen and is good for alcohol and special glasses/drinks straws etc or various drinks in general. My friend has one and its so handy on wheels being able to move to and from the kitchen if you were making margaritas and wanted everything in the living room with you, voila just move the trolley! You could put your cleaning stuff on hooks so they can hang off the wall near a front or back door and to save space you could get a shoe 'rack' that hangs on the front of the bathroom or back doors perhaps? An open pantry/larder style floating shelves sounds like a fantastic use of that space especially for baking ingredients and spices etc!
Instead of shelving you can find a silver chefs shelf unit. It’s like a bookcase but it’s open metal work. Wish I could send you a photo, but we buy them at Lowe’s or Home Depot which are like huge hardware stores. The fun thing is that you can get matching hooks and hang pots and utensils. It could be floor to ceiling and will clear up all your counters. Isolation sucks, but you’re killing it. R vlogs.😘
'Magical trash' is the perfect way to describe Too Hot to Handle! The whole way through I was thinking.. 'Why am I watching this?!?!' but I couldn't stop 🤣🙈
Loving the crafting Lucy! Whatever makes you feel happy in this time of insanity, right? Also pepperoni and red onion are THE BEST (first time I've heard someone else about that particular combo)
How about in the kitchen space one of those wooden trolleys with spaces for veg, baskets, wine etc then it would give you the surface space to move the kettle or toaster over slightly and more out of sight storage for crisps and things and then some shelves above it? Loving the vlogs, I have ordered my first make box and can't wait for it to arrive, slightly jealous of your loom however. Reminds me of that episode of the Big Bang theory when Sheldon gets one 😊 stay safe xx
Hi Lucy, loving your vlogs ;) unless you are planning to put a smaller fridge in the corner then the shelves would actually look nice. Also have you thought about switching the toaster and the kettle with the coffee station? or maybe moving the kettle there?
omg when you put this on your story i literally had my fingers crossed that you were making a vlog out of it....oopsie🥺hope you're having an amazing day!!!
Haha had a weird inception moment when you were talking about crafting while watching things, since I’m currently watching your video while crocheting a cardigan for the first time! As a crafty person with no social life, this whole shut down has seemed just like a really long day off to me, but I’m trying to enjoy learning new things haha. Btw kitchen shelves look great!
I think ikea have small shelves like the floating ones, that i think would fit nicely, howeveri think you would benefit more from an extended worktop surface, including shelves above and below.
I just started "Too hot to handle" and it is absolutely ridiculous 😂. Very easy to binge! Your weaving is very impressive. I did some needlepoint last year and it is NOT as easy as it looks haha. So much timeeeeee!
Your kitchen is so cute! I would put a shelf that is the same height as your kitchen counter to add more space for cooking/storage and maybe put a little curtain (in a non-grandma way) to cover up any clutter and, like you said, put shelves above it! Also, I need to get myself a weaving frame! Stay safe and sane hah!
Curious if the cabinet opens where the new shelf is. I think a cabinet from like Ikea would be great in that spot. Create it for shelves for the shoes on the bottom of one side place to hang mops on one sidethen extra storage for snacks or pots and pans to give you extra space anything to use open space. Love you guys
I mostly read in my spare time but I used to do a lot of cross stitch. Following your most recent vlogs and in these odd times I have picked it back up again. I think half the battle, at least for me, at the moment is just finding an activity that occupies and stimulates your brain.
Oh my god! 😂😂😂Adam is hilarious!! More videos with Adam 😂your kitchen looks beautiful Lucy. Great video 😘💕❤️makes me so happy when I see you’ve posted a new video 😁xxxxx
You should do the open shelves as a larder but have baskets on them so everything isn’t on display but easy to organise (also means you don’t have to move 100’s of individual packets / tins when you clean - whip out the baskets and wipe down the shelves 😊)
Shelves look great, agree about putting some more shelves in the alcove, or at least some more hooks for the cleaning stuff. Also lovd the shed tour finally "crutches in case you get injured gardening" ahahaha
Maybe you could look into some of the kitchen trolleys from Ikea? I have one in my kitchen and it's really great either as an extra work space or as storage for your microwave. It also has shelves underneath, which would be great for extra storage! I have the Bekvam one, but they definitely have others.
Your shelves look really nice. If I were you, I'd make a narrow high cupboard (diy?) in the corner to put the hoover etc away in. And then extend the worktop to have some more workspace. You could put your toaster and kettle there.
Huge yes for the shelves on the other floor. However, like you said, it might look a bit messy and cluttered, so you have to make sure you don't put that many shelves on there. Maybe only a few with big gaps between them - that way you could squeeze a taller plant in the corner of a shelf, so it could poke out behind the things you'd put there. Or put some hanging stuff at the top - like one of those magnetic bars for knives (obviously not that, but just so you know what I mean) and then put shelves on the bottom half. I'd also put some decorating items on the them, not just food, so it doesn't look as cluttered.
Shed tour! Thank you Adam, definately worth the wait :) I did notice though, that much like all of us worrying about Lucy falling down the stairs at your old place, that you have a slightly concerning feature to your tour. Your saw blade had the teeth facing out. Maybe just turn it around so that I don't have to worry about anyone accidently getting hurt? I'm a mom, I can't help but notice these little things and worry! :)
Electric wires usually run from the ceiling straight down the way. Usually is the important word. Oh, you should get a wire detector, it picks up all the stuff behind the walls. The envelope idea works great, you can just fold a piece of paper if you don't have an envelope. You are where we were exactly two years ago when we bought a house after selling our flat and we had no idea how to do aaaaaaanything. 😂
Waiting for your descenio code before ordering my prints! Was just about to place the order when I started this video, so glad you uploaded today 😂. Thanks for posting, Lucy, love watching you and Adam during this crazy time! I'm working on a macra-weave currently and I'm loving it. I have done macrame several times but not yet weaving so I'm working some weaving into my macrame and it looks so cool!
Also the weaving segment was great and made me go “hmm maybe I should start weaving too” whilst surrounded by multiple unfinished craft projects myself 🤔
i think for that corner where you want to put shelves id put a tall cupboard with closed doors for more storage personally! looking great tho! good job on the shelves
100% Adam needs his own channel or at least “a chat with Adam” section on yours 😂. “And here’s some Cuprinol left by previous owners...that’s nice”
If you're watching Emma's Rectangle, her boyfriend and Adam need to do a channel together 😂 I'd die
Janneke Detlefsen Maybe we should start a campaign for a boyfriends spin off!
Love the idea of the shelves! Or could get a trolley from ikea and pop the kettle and toaster on it, then it has space for other bits underneath x
Kitchen shelves look so good and make it look so much more homely and less studenty.

“It’s literally Saturday and I’m sitting here weaving on a loom” 😆 dead 😂😂😂
"Crutches in case you get injured gardening" Spat my drink out 😁
SHED TOUR! Oh how long have we waited 😂
Definitely do some shelves over where the mops are but can we just take a moment for the Nespresso pod holder ( & share a link for your girl over here). Another great vlog Lucy 👏👏👏
Lucy: This corner is a mess so we're hanging up some shelfs
Also Lucy: Puts only things on the shelf that already had a nice spot 😅😅 obv kidding

Id put the kettle next to the coffee machine even if you got one of those dual plug splitter things so you had 2 plusg to do so (Eif thats a problem)
Love Adam’ s fascinating shed tour!
I definitely think you should do the open shelves. They would look really lovely. You could even put the kettle and toaster on them.
Love your shelves and the idea of an open larder. Your weaving looks fab too x

What a cute vlog 🥰 also I appreciate Adam’s presence, as always! You are so cute together and he is such a fun addition 😂 love the shed tour!
Can’t wait to see your garden tour/tidy up/renovation if you are going to do one! Videos cheering us up in these strange times 😁
"That is an enormous spider"
Lucy: I'm gonna catch that
Me: I'm gonna burn the kitchen down
LITERALLY ME
Also binge watching Disney videos to get through - even planning a trip just to have something to look forward to. Would love a Disney holiday advice video if you're up for it!! x

Yay! That's exactly what I need rn today was a kind of a rough day but your videos always make me feel better 😊💖
OMG THE SHED TOUR IS HERE WHAT ALL MY DREAMS HAVE BEEN FULFILLED
Looking really good!!
You could put that spice rack up on the wall just above where it is at the moment, which would give you space to put the kettle/ have a bit more work surface.
Also you could get an Ikea shoe cabinet to go under the new shelves - they come in white and are quite shallow - the shoes would be hidden but still accessible and you would have another surface.
Plus you could put a kitchen trolley with a butcher block work surface in the corner and open shelves with baskets above.
Your home vlogs give me life right now - your house is looking so beaut! Your vids always make me smile 😍
you are bloody lovely, enjoying these isolation vlogs SO much
Adam's shed tour's the highlight of my 2020 🙌🏻
I literally sat down and watched Too Hot To Handle in one sitting (as in genuinely a single toilet break) while embroidering, so I'm right there with you
I seen someone mention a trolley to place under the shelves - this sounds like a lovely idea for your kitchen and is good for alcohol and special glasses/drinks straws etc or various drinks in general. My friend has one and its so handy on wheels being able to move to and from the kitchen if you were making margaritas and wanted everything in the living room with you, voila just move the trolley! The shelves look SO great! It's amazing the change and interest they can bring to a room. Your loom looks very professional!
My favourite this season is Crystal. Love her and her mullet 😅
'Magical trash' is the perfect way to describe Too Hot to Handle! The whole way through I was thinking.. 'Why am I watching this?!?!' but I couldn't stop

Literally living for Adam’s t-shirt tucked into sweatpants look. 🤣🤣 The new business casual!
Top tip: colour the screw heads in with a black sharpie 👍🏻
Loving the crafting Lucy! Whatever makes you feel happy in this time of insanity, right? Also pepperoni and red onion are THE BEST (first time I've heard someone else about that particular combo)
Lucy, I don't know how to tell you this, but you were wholesome way before you got into crafting
Now that we've finally gotten the magical Shed tour, I have nothing else left to look forward to 😭
I get the same craft box! Fully engrossed in an embroidery hoop right now!
I love the crafts. This is a very cozy and satisfying video. Thanks.

Adam is so precious with the shed tour. We need a part two 😂😂😂.
You could put a small table where the mops are and create a whole coffee/tea station! And then some open shelves above :)

Pop a shelf in the gap where the aprons are to put the microwave to free up space on other bench for toaster/kettle! X
Too hot to handle is HILARIOUS! I enjoyed it so much 😂😂 chloe was my favorite for the laughs!

Your shelves look really nice. If I were you, I'd make a narrow high cupboard (diy?) in the corner to put the hoover etc away in. And then extend the worktop to have some more workspace. You could put your toaster and kettle there.
i love your kitchen i know it's a bit small and you want to do an extension but a bit of paint and things like those shelves making it really good.
"the instructions are in French! All you have to do is: screws and wall plugs not included"
I almost peed my pants Lucy xD
Ah ahh j'allais ajouter ce commentaire :D
Huge yes for the shelves on the other floor. However, like you said, it might look a bit messy and cluttered, so you have to make sure you don't put that many shelves on there. Maybe only a few with big gaps between them - that way you could squeeze a taller plant in the corner of a shelf, so it could poke out behind the things you'd put there. Or put some hanging stuff at the top - like one of those magnetic bars for knives (obviously not that, but just so you know what I mean) and then put shelves on the bottom half. I'd also put some decorating items on the them, not just food, so it doesn't look as cluttered.
Aww Lucy great video 🤗 loved the shelves...did cover my eyes when your started to drill 😂 and Adams garden shed tour was so funny 😂
The coffee pod holder is amazing
I love your videos!!! They’re so happy and homey ❤️
‘Endless blob of time’ 😭😂 best description eva 😭
I think open shelves or a little cart would be a great use for your fridge hole!
On the edge of my seat for that shed tour
