My man heard “touch grass” and took it to heart. You are an inspiration, may you keep on pulling off incredible feats of Google Earth and traveling the world.
I really appreciate that you mention how big a role the porters played. Those guys are never talked about, people get literally carried up Everest by Sherpas and pretend they did it on their own so it's great to see. Love your content dude, one of the most genuine people on UA-cam and it's crazy that I actually feel happy to see a complete stranger succeeding, you deserve it man.
I saw some twitter replies saying they don't like the locals being "used" by wealthy westerners as pack carriers and such to climb "their" mountains. But i think those are just the dumbest comments of time, esp when they made it about race. They also say the same things about sherpas for Mt Everest climbs, but these western climbers, in both places, are injecting so much money into the local economy, paying these assistants a lot to do this, and essentially funding their entire livelihoods. They're not being taken advantage of in any way, and they're not just mules for helping burden the load. They're lifesavers who make it possible for people like foreign climbers who aren't acclimated to that climate to summit and still have all the gear necessary to survive. And, I think Rainbolt was very respectful in this vid when acknowledging the work they did and massive contribution they made in him making it up.
Your video/vlog is so unusually real. I've watched well over a dozen of these as I prepare for Kili in a few weeks - yours is the most important. My favorite of course is when you are narrating and see something that touched you deeply during the trek - you cannot not smile and look at it and listen and remember how great it was. We can be in the middle of a mess for an entire day but there are those couple of minutes that bring so much joy that the entire experience was worthwhile. If I didn't see you smiling as you watched yourself say how proud you were to summit, I think I would not have thought too much of your production. Thanks for putting this together. I am more invigorated - at 70 years old I appreciate anything that is encouraging. Thanks for carrying the logs and the boat.
Saw you break into tears and hug the other guy at the summit literally said it all about how hard climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is..Mr. Rainbolt, thank you for sharing this unforgetable experience with us. I'm so happy that you can make it to the top safely. And a big shoutout to those people who came along with you, especially porters!! They show us how much support really means to someone. And also, you should make a compilation of this year. From climbing Mount Kilimanjaro to hosting the World Cup this year is wild!!
For its ginormous size it's remarkably easy going, but it is undeniably big. An impressive achievement for an average healthy person, but yet, is achievable by an average person.
It's by far the easiest ~20k foot mountain to climb. Very hard for an average person, it's quite an achievement. But it requires basically no mountaineering experience, it's only a very long and uphill trek.
nah it's actually used pretty loosely, this is kinda well known lol, if someone's like physically uncomfortable with a headache, they could say they were so down bad, you definitely watch too much tiktok
Yo rainbolt, amazing job! I did the exact same thing you did in 2018, same route, same camps, same lack of training, except I had -40 degree weather on summit day, and no headaches! It was so nostalgic watching the videos and photos of your trip scroll by, all looking exactly the same as when I did it, so tha k you for letting me relive it. I know 1000% that I would NOT do it again, once was more than enough for me! Serious congratulations because I can vouch that it is the heardest, and yet most rewarding thing I've ever done. Big love dude ❤
Type 2 fun, the best kind of fun, the kind that feels like true hell when you're in the moment but when you look back upon it seems like the greatest thing you've done in your life. Type 2 fun is memories that will last literally forever, they are the kind of stories you'll tell your grandkids about and they're the kind of memories that will bring you out of the darkness when everything else feels bleak. These adventures truly give us life, you'll learn so much about yourself and the world around you, and nothing can take those accomplishments away from you. I highly recommend anyone to go overnight hiking, whether that's to climb a mountain or just to enjoy the serenity of nature- and massive congratulations to Rainbolt for completing that mission and showing us what it's all about! You're an inspiration for so many of us, and that accomplishment is gonna be part of you for the rest of your life!
Huge respect man you think it’s not hard to climb any mountain but it is and mt Kilimanjaro is something to look back on for the rest of your life mad respect
This is actually so cool, you’re literally my idol man I aspire to be able to do things like this like you some day. I’ve never had a moment where I felt incredibly proud of myself, but I know it will happen one day. You’re so sick man, the goat for sure
So amazing watching your trip up there Rainbolt. I did the exact same trip up there exactly 8 years to the date that you did it. Watching the video brought back so many memories of the trip and so amazing that you had a clear sky for you summit day. There is nothing more motivating than seeing the sunrise on summit day and knowing just how close you are. Such an amazing video and so nostalgic watching it and bringing back memories of my own trip.
So glad you got to do this! My grandad (age 75) climbed it when he was 24 and lived in Nigeria at the time. From what he told us, it was like a different planet, just the sheer altitude make you a whole different person. Absolute magic in this vid!
This guy went from insane GeoGuessr gameplay and finding locations by a single picture to travel the entire world and climb mountains. He has an insane, meaningful life. Edit: I fixed it already, you can stop commenting about it
it is very challenging and hard its just considered the "easiest" 1 of the 7 summits which doesnt make it easy its just easier compared to some of the hardest mountains to summit in the world
Bro, this is so inspiring. I love your honesty about not really touching grass much, and then you challenge yourself to something that is hard for people that train for a year to do... you half arse the training but still do it! :D That shows the character of someone. Congrats, brother.
Everything about this is amazing and especially the intro. The part about being winded is so true for so many people trying to get back on the grind. So glad you were able to make it through the pain. Props!
The singing by the locals is very powerful and nice. And even though we in the West have many great things, we've lost some great things along the way too.
congrats man, you're a real one the clearest sky and the epic sunrise must have been truly special you did it! and big shoutout to the helping local people - they are real heros
I puked a lot at 4800m, and then walking up the last 1000m at 00:30 Am, with 4 hours of sleep and almost no food in my system. But still one of the best moment in my life.
amazing video dude, specially cause you can tell how much it means to you. also great how all these people are so in touch with their surroundings and eachother, with all the singing and appreciation of the mountain and cosmos. sucks that you always have to travel so far to have these kinds of authentic experiences, but it's also nice that you have the option to have them in the first place if you put in enough effort.
Wow that summit video is beautiful.. thanks for taking us on your journey. My brother also climbed Kili but was unable to summit due to altitude sickness. He didnt have any regrets though.
As if you go straight from having never camped in a tent to climbing Kilimanjaro. I'd highly recommend taking up hiking/mountaineering in your local area - it doesn't have to be the highest peak to be highly satisfying. summiting is such a reward
Don't ever let anyone take this accomplishment away from you. Doing this is incredibly difficult even with training. To do it without elevation and oxygen deprivation training is hellish, so fr good for you. I can only imagine the suffering you endured having never been to such a high elevation and then to immediately go up to 19k ft over only a few days would put CRAZY stress on your body with suddenly such little oxygen to work with. Those porters who do all the work are lifesavers, but remember, they're fully acclimated and have done it a bunch so for them their body isn't dying the whole time lol. This just shows you must've been pretty healthy before going since only someone very healthy could stand to do this without training.
I did kili on he same route last year, i had terrible altitude sickness didn't train either. In one of your videos i saw the spot that i emptied my stomach as you were talking about how you loved the camp. Awesome expertise.
Not sure if you were fully joking there but Everest is gonna be waaaay out of your league. You need months of hard training, sponsorships and probably summit a couple more lower mountains first. It's way more technical and dangerous and almost 90% scaling ice and snow. And you'd need to be lucky with finding a good weather window (that's when hundreds of other mountaineers are gonna be there as well). Don't consider it. It's something completely different...
Such an awesome achievement! I recently summited mount Kilimanjaro while shooting a short film about the climb, and man that summit night is horrible! Once again congrats!
As someone that’s hiked mountains in East Africa before (not nearly as high), Mt. Kilimanjaro is 100% on my bucket list and this just made me want to move the trip to sooner than I expected
man, i really love climbing mountains, i often think about perhaps climbing higher and higher mountains, and i thought about Kilimanjaro as well, its great to see your trip and achievement and it definitely makes me want to do it as well, however money and time are problems
I lived in Tanzania Arusha for 2 years teaching and building a school. Mt Kili is on my bucket list, so happy you did this and also saw Mother Africa and her people.
Literally couldn't be more astonished for you Rainbolt. Last time I heard, you were gonna be the first to play Geoguessr on Mt Kilimanjato, however the climb and journey itself was so much more than yourself and the rest of us could give yourself credit for. Veni, vidi, vici
Man I figured that hour of shooting hoops in Madeira a few months ago would have had you in prime shape for a climb like this! Seriously though, what a momentus experience.. I wish I would have done something like that in my 20s. Great stuff dude
theres something about you that is just too coozy and relatable. loving your vids and this is fuckin wholesome experiencia to have in your life glad you shared, really inspiring
This is so dope! Thank you for inspiring me for more then a year to be a better person and push myself to change careers where I’m (almost) able to travel to all the places I’ve seen in geoguessr but never thought I’d be able too see irl. Being probably 5-10 years older then you I appreciate all the nerd out to travel videos-from a place with 3 yellow bands hanging outside on a pole
This is honestly in my opinion one of the most entertaining videos you've ever made, even though you just did commentary over photos it was still super interesting. You should climb more mountains of similar scale and record it as you go up, would make for a really cool video
The fact that you just went out and did it, with 0 training. Man, respect! One of the best videos on youtube this year! Looking forward to more adventures!
Some of the things you said in this video really reminded me of going to the snow level of the Nevado Santa Isabel here in Colombia. Obviously that's a 1 day thing, (and then add on the two days we took to get down to the natural reserve we stayed at at the very end) so not comparable to a mountain like Kilimanjaro, but definitely a lot of the same feelings and experiences. Hope you can come here someday and experience any one of the amazing natural wonders we have. Edit: that three was really interesting. Because it really reminded me of the frailejones we have here. Same general features.
I remember hiking 3 or 4 days through the Salkantay (sp?) trek. It was beautiful. I remember on the last day walking up the stairs to Machu Pichu and never taking a break. Now I get winded going up 10 flights of stairs in my ship.
Sick dude! Recently climbed Mt. Fuji spontaneously when travelling to Japan and had a similar experience. Of course this mountain is waaaay harder but I can relate to all the emotional ups and downs you had :D Thanks a lot for sharing your experience and I hope I get the chance of climbing this mountain too in the future! ❤
Bored of being able to pinpoint coordinates in a map, Rainbolt has taken to visiting coordinates in real life. One day, you'll post a pic online, and within 30 seconds Rainbolt will be standing next to you. There is nothing to fear, as there is no stopping Rainbolt.
13:50 if you want to have an amazing view of the stars (and have a lot of money) I recommend doing Mauna Kea on Hawaii. I come from WA (The yellow street pole place), and the outback here has some of the best views of the night sky in the world, but Mauna Kea was something different. And I wasn't even able to go to the summit then, just some volcanic cones 2/3rds of the way up.
First of all, I really like the idea of you doing outside stuff like climbing mountains. I live close to the alps and I love mountain climbing since I was a child. But what I've learned in these years is to always respect the mountain and in this case, the people there. I've heard a lot of people who say that there are workers who have to carry your stuff and work under cruel conditions. I think there are also sone documentaries about it. So if people see the video and think "Hmm that looks pretty cool, I want to do this too", they are likely to be in one of the tours with these poor workers and the if you ask about the workers, the guide will always reply "that's okay" or "they get paid rightfully". And yes the Kilimandjaro is a very easy mountain to climb but I would recommend you to start small, especially if you have pretty much no mountain experience. We really do not need a "I climbed Mount Everest" video or something like that. Always be aware of the dangers and respect the mountain! So, what I want to say, if a mountain is famous, there is no reason to climb it, because there have been so many people up there anyways! I think it would be a better idea to collaborate with other creators and explore the mountains with them. Anyways, I just wanted to give my own opinion on this, have a great day!
geoguessr pro here, hes on mt. kilimanjaro in these pictures. (watched 0.1 seconds of the video black and white inverted upside-down and tipsy off wine.)
proud of u rainbolt, so cool you can live your dream. maybe you should try rock climbing next and that 'cody ko for scale' was completely out of pocket lol had me laughing
I did this a few years ago and my group all got hella food poisoning and almost died but still made it to the top. Some of us were literally puking the whole way up on summit day. It was a good thing it was dark 😂 It was awesome but the food they give you is …. interesting 😂 “Pole pole” is ingrained into my mind meaning “slowly” in Swahili cause the guides would repeat it to us hundreds of times a day cause we wanted to go faster. But the altitude will fuck if you go fast. So I still hear that phrase in my mind all the time. Awesome to hear you did it. It’s an amazing experience.
Let’s do another, bro!
I wanna come Nelson!
How much is it to do one of these trips?
Next gotta be Mont Blanc
Yes
Pick me pick me
My man heard “touch grass” and took it to heart. You are an inspiration, may you keep on pulling off incredible feats of Google Earth and traveling the world.
Then he got to the top and ... there was no grass to touch 😂
Man heard “touch grass” and touched the peak of a fucking kilimanjaro
touch mountain
8:07, those 30 songs are gonna have a crazy weird nostalgia when you re listen to them in 5 months
I really appreciate that you mention how big a role the porters played. There is something so pure about that reaction of him breaking into tears upon reaching the summit. Rainbolt, you are such an inspiration, my man!
This guy went from insane GeoGuessr gameplay and finding locations by a single picture to travel the entire world and climb mountains.
He has an insane, meaningful life.
Edit: I fixed it already, you can stop commenting about it
Is it a tough climb? I was told it's a good one for beginners.
for the elevation and location it is a easy climb and you have a whole team helping you
it is very challenging and hard its just considered the "easiest" 1 of the 7 summits which doesnt make it easy its just easier compared to some of the hardest mountains to summit in the world
My bad, fixed it, heard otherwise,
Still pretty impressive as a first mountain
it’s technically and physically easy but still an impressive accomplishment
Bro, this is so inspiring. I love your honesty about not really touching grass much, and then you challenge yourself to something that is hard for people that train for a year to do... you half arse the training but still do it! :D That shows the character of someone. Congrats, brother.
kilimanjaro shoudlnt be hard for people that train for a year, people that train for a year should be able to do everest let alone kili
Everything about this is amazing and especially the intro. The part about being winded is so true for so many people trying to get back on the grind. So glad you were able to make it through the pain. Props!
Rewatching this because it’s such a touching and inspirational video
The singing by the locals is very powerful and nice. And even though we in the West have many great things, we've lost some great things along the way too.
congrats man, you're a real one
the clearest sky and the epic sunrise must have been truly special

I've seen a lot of videos of adventures, but yours man, yours is the most authentic and inspiring. Great video!

Incredible, dude. You have this forever. Absolutely be proud. The emotions at the end made me tear up. What an experience.
Oh man you came to Tanzania! 🔥🔥🔥
Nice 🇹🇿

this is so sick
you should start the next wordle with mount to honor it
You know its a good day when Rainbolt uploads
I did kili on he same route last year, i had terrible altitude sickness didn't train either. In one of your videos i saw the spot that i emptied my stomach as you were talking about how you loved the camp. Awesome expertise.
You can tell rainbolt had so much fun recording and climbing up the mountain literally just in the intro.
He was kidding he’s definitely knowledgeable enough to know that but he could definitely do k2 💀
Isn't Everest the mountain 10% of people die trying to climb?
Edit: Nvm. Was thinking of another one. But 4% deathrate to successfull attempts
K2 has a 23% fatality rate, and it's only 800 feet less. And Everest is 10,000 feet higher than Kilimanjaro. Slow down dude.
not sure he needs any sponsorships cause money is probably not an issue
Such an awesome achievement! I recently summited mount Kilimanjaro while shooting a short film about the climb, and man that summit night is horrible! Once again congrats!

I laughed my ass off when I heard "who's going to carry the logs"
I lived in Tanzania Arusha for 2 years teaching and building a school. Mt Kili is on my bucket list, so happy you did this and also saw Mother Africa and her people.
My school is taking a trip to Tanzania and we are also going Kilimanjaro for a while
how in the world? the porters are literally superhuman
Literally couldn't be more astonished for you Rainbolt. Last time I heard, you were gonna be the first to play Geoguessr on Mt Kilimanjato, however the climb and journey itself was so much more than yourself and the rest of us could give yourself credit for. Veni, vidi, vici
First time sleeping in a tent while man's hiking Kilimanjaro. Wild
Fr
So glad you acknowledge the porters! A lot of people climb stuff like mt everest and never mention that they didnt even have to carry their own stuff
Inspirational stuff man, these mountains are actually gorgeous.
This was the same route up Mt Kilimanjaro I walked back in 2019, so thank you for the trip down memory lane!
Man you're a surprisingly good storyteller. I felt really involved! Great video
This is amazing Rainbolt! If you do go travelling more and it is not much of a hassle please make videos about it : )
Man I figured that hour of shooting hoops in Madeira a few months ago would have had you in prime shape for a climb like this! Seriously though, what a momentus experience.. I wish I would have done something like that in my 20s. Great stuff dude
Bro is the opposite of Gandalf and his "I have no memory of this place"
theres something about you that is just too coozy and relatable. loving your vids and this is fuckin wholesome experiencia to have in your life
glad you shared, really inspiring
The human body can handle more than we know :) I often think something isn't possible but in the end I do it and I learned something new about myself
Awesome video way to answer the call of the mountains Rainbolt
This is so dope! Thank you for inspiring me for more then a year to be a better person and push myself to change careers where I’m (almost) able to travel to all the places I’ve seen in geoguessr but never thought I’d be able too see irl. Being probably 5-10 years older then you I appreciate all the nerd out to travel videos-from a place with 3 yellow bands hanging outside on a pole

The fact that you just went out and did it, with 0 training. Man, respect! One of the best videos on youtube this year! Looking forward to more adventures!
Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro has brrn my life long dream. This video is an inspiration. Hope to see that sunrise someday. :)
This was a real journey to watch! Thank you for sharing!

The most inspirational video. You're a genius and thanks to you I might accomplish my dream to go there
This is so f*ckin' cool man. You've taken us around the world in more ways than one. Lots to be proud of my boy--we'll keep watching.
My man is playing Geoguessr in real life

Raibolt: We'll take that. Next.

Did the same route a couple months ago. Barranco Camp definitely took the cake for me, sick view all around.
I did this a few years ago and my group all got hella food poisoning and almost died but still made it to the top.
Some of us were literally puking the whole way up on summit day. It was a good thing it was dark 😂
It was awesome but the food they give you is …. interesting 😂
“Pole pole” is ingrained into my mind meaning “slowly” in Swahili cause the guides would repeat it to us hundreds of times a day cause we wanted to go faster. But the altitude will fuck if you go fast. So I still hear that phrase in my mind all the time. Awesome to hear you did it. It’s an amazing experience.
