As an autistic adult with a largely autistic family, thank you for treating this child with the kindness and dignity he deserves! I loved the end when he was running back and forth to let you cut his hair even though it was hard for him. The stim breaks were essential. He did so well despite his discomfort and so obviously trusted you. Just a beautiful video.

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I introduce you to, Vernon, 👦🏾"The Child Whisperer!" 👶🏼
ALL these comments are so good, I thought, "what can I contribute?" But I had to say something! I was so very moved! So I want to share what I learned! ~ "No" is a trigger sometimes, why not "redirect" the childs thoughts by saying, "come here, do this" BRILLIANT! This man is such a natural! Also, like he said, imagine how frustrated even we adults with NO disabilities whom have voices and vocabulary get when we cant get our point across! Now, imagine how a child...a child...with NO words and NO vocabulary feels when they cant get their point across? Pure WISDOM. This wonderful "sage" teaches wisdom, patience and vital understanding to the parents so they may better communicate with their special needs children. But guess what? It taught THIS 63 year old with a vast vocabulary things that no book or teacher EVER has! God bless him and his mission of love! 😊❤❤❤

Well yes but part of it is her fault, she allows him to run the narrative. He’s four, 4️⃣, they teach them how to start sign language and use a communication device in kindergarten. Secondly, he could not possibly be in school bc the pacifier is a HUGE NO, school wouldn’t allow that at all. He isn’t a baby and shouldn’t have things like a pacifier, sippy cup etc. It’s clear that she uses food as a tool for him, autistic children should be on a strict diet. Foods and drinks AFFECT THEIR BEHAVIORS. He can learn but must be taught differently and receive positive or negative consequences depending on the situation. Parents must put in the work to help their children prosper, period.

This type of thing isn’t everyone’s calling. I work with the roughest children-teens deemed garbage or the future career criminals of society. I have a gift to redirect young black, brown, and white boys and girls that society throw away. All of them have gone to jail or are in gangs. I can teach and train them properly. They will listen, learn, respect me and others. My point is what this man is doing IS NOT FOR ME. The constant crying and pacifying of this boy would make me walk out on him and his mom. He’s autistic NOT UNTEACHABLE, teach him in a different manner. Mom has pacified him too long, now w/o feeding him or holding him down she receives the negative responses. I know there’s different levels of autism/neurodivergent ppl, they all can learn appropriate behavior. Unfortunately, ppl will ignore the negative behaviors and give in to them versus teaching him right from wrong. She’s not doing him any favors by pacifying him and mom won’t be here forever. I’m sure she doesn’t want police intervention either that might not work out well. This man didn’t allow him to run the show, he didn’t give up his authority either.

As a parent of two Special Needs sons this brings back many memories of their early haircuts. I took my oldest son for a haircut, I held him while she tried to cut his hair, I think I ended up with more hair on me than my sun had cut off. I went home and brought my other son back for his haircut (the first barber decided it was her break time!) The second barber cut my second son without any problems (I was holding him also), he was so content in getting his haircut that I was able to get my haircut afterwards while my second son was sitting on my lap. 🥳 The first barber couldn’t believe the difference between my two sons knowing that they both had the same disABILITY. Now that my sons are adults neither one has a problem getting haircuts!

I have an autistic son and it's not really the haircut that brothers them it's the sound of the clippers. My son hated the noise being so close to his ears. I learned to cut his hair with clippers at home and I let him watch something that he liked on tv to help calm him. Autistic people have sensitivity to sounds and it causes them to get over stimulized and causes more anxiety. Once they accept it its best not to change the process and they know what's going to happen. The little guy will be better the next time.
