I have watched this thrilling performance so many times. I only wish it was available in a proper video. And I have no problem with her high notes - this is spine tingling stuff.
@@draganvidic2039 It's interesting, because in Germany and Vienna in middle of last century and before lyric voices sang what we would call spinto or the fach system would call judgendlich dramatische. One example is Tiana Lemnitz, whose sang much of the same repertoire as Janowitz.
What people trying to complain about? Her top is gleaming here. Middle and bottom acceptable. Flexibility fine considered the fact she wasn't Verdian soprano and not dramatic one either. A very fine rendition by Mme Janowitz.
Normally i adore Janowitz in lyric roles for the beauty of the voice and she made a pure silvery Elsa also. The top wasn't always pleasing, sometimes the high notes were quite screamed. But here she shows everything what she really isn't. She did some things out of her range and thank God it weren't too much of them.
As much as I adore the sound of Janowitz´ voice, I do not really enjoy this. She had no business in this repertoire, and she never cracked her problems with the top of the voice. She was never comfortable above B flat!
Stunning!!!
Absolutely stunning
wowwwww. what a voice...
Molto brava, bella voce, ce ne fossero!

Perfection. Angelical but powerful voice.
Лучшее исполнение из всех, что я слышала.
СУПЕР! СЕЙЧАС ТАК НЕ ПОЮТ. ВОТ ЭТО ДЫХАНИЕ!
Die schönste Stimme.......
She really opens up on top. Don't forget she sang heavy roles like Aida and Elisabetta de Valois in Vienna.
...and did not do well.
Lyrics should sing lyric roles, how very hard can it be?

scott grunow
Janowitz was a miscast in spinto roles.
I knew about Elisabetta di Valois, which is available on video. But did she also sing Aida?
And should never have done them.
Maybe the role is not for her voice, but this is perfectly respectable.
Jesus Christ. Mozart and Strauss really do prepare you for everything.
STOP TAKING THE LORD'S NAME IN VAIN.
You are quite right!!!!
No

We are thousand years away from Odabella's vocality. A curiosity.
She could MAYBE have done Alice or Desdemona but Verdi is not for her lyric voice.
first toscanini preferred his nellies to zinka, and then karajan his mirellas or riciarellis to this voice...
The coloratura is beyond horrific. Th

Nein, nein, nein. Mein Gott in Himmel!
She does not have the required low register at all.
AT ALL! Verdi wrote this for a very dramatic voice!
Janowitz is very good singing the soprano parts from Mozart's Requiem.
She doesnt have the required middle either

I agree: she was no Verdi soprano AT ALL. Still, I admire her peerless artistry and musicianship.
Yes - funny nobody spoke about that. I must admit I have ALWAYS found that extreme fast vibrato distressing.
This is painful to listen to. Who told her that she could sing this. Dio mio
questo è perfezione. Anche se voi italiani non lo volete credere.
She has no chest voice - and the recording sounds like it has added resonance not possessed by the singer.
So does Marton, Rysanek, Jones, Albanese etc. Everybody could have it. The question is development.
Buona in Mozart ma il Verdi degli anni da galera non fa per lei....
elle aurait dû s'acheter un timbre à la poste!et surtout éviter de se ridiculiser dans ce genre de répertoire!
No low register and those tremulous tops are painful to the ears!
No 😒
