    The Invisibility Cloak You've Been Waiting For
    news.discovery....
    "Everyone from Harry Potter to working physicists are fascinated with cloaking devices. In science fiction, capes can make kids invisible, but in real life, scientists have only been able to hide certain wavelengths of light - and so far those have been in the part of the spectrum we can’t see."
    ‘Cloaking’ device uses ordinary lenses to hide objects across range of angles

    “Inspired perhaps by Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak, scientists have recently developed several ways-some simple and some involving new technologies-to hide objects from view.”
    Paraxial Ray Optics Cloaking
    arxiv.org/pdf/1...
    “Despite much interest and progress in optical spatial cloaking, a three-dimensional (3D), transmitting, continuously multidirectional cloak in the visible regime has not yet been demonstrated.”
    ‘Invisibility cloak’ uses lenses to bend light
    www.cnet.com/ne...
    “One of the problems with the cloaking devices developed to date -- and it's a big one -- is that they really only work if both the viewer and whatever is being cloaked remain still.”

    I turned invisible once, except no one was around and I had my eyes closed. Bit of waste now I think about it.

    It's funny, I remember doing that as a kid with lenses and seeing that happen. But I never made the connection of invisibility. I wonder how many other obvious other phenomenon is out there just waiting for someone to make the connection.

    0:33 is right because sometimes I daydream and I look at the same wall for almost 4 hours and don't move my eyes done move nothing moves and when my dad falls my name he called me right in front me and I wouldn't see him I'd ask where is he and he exclaim he's right in front of me. It's very weird though if you think about it

  • @fogglee
    @fogglee 10 років тому +3

    I think that's stupid, I could have invented that as a kid, it just funnels the light down to nothing in the middle of two lenses only so that cone is visible. The image will be upside down on the other side but one lens can fix that.
    Its totally impractical anyway, how is that scalable? I'd have to be in two parts that you have to put exactly in a line and distance..

    • @ksng767
      @ksng767 10 років тому +2

      And then we see the problem, you didn't invent it as a kid, or ever at all and that you don't even know the practical use of this set up.
      If you've read up on this invention, it allows surgeons' hands to become invisible as they operate, it can also be scaled up to create large spaces with invisible objects.

    • @fogglee
      @fogglee 10 років тому +2

      I said I could have. They're just normal lenses.
      And its all well saying that but show me. How the hell can you hide a surgeon's hands? the hands will be touching the patent so theres no room left for a lens on the other side of the hand, this system hides things in the middle.

    • @ksng767
      @ksng767 10 років тому +3

      Just because they are normal lenses doesn't mean that one can simply invent the set up. Understand causality, we didn't invent it because we did not have the idea in the first place, and only now that it has been invented that you claim to be able to, because you know that such a thing is possible now.
      And then, if you don't understand how it can allow surgeons to see past their hands, it simply means that, you do not have any idea how to do that.

    so it's not invisible.. the image is just shifted positions.. AND you have to be looking through a lens to achieve this..that means that for someone to be able to NOT see you, they have to have the special lens.. .pointless.

So It's okay to have untidy hair on purpose, or not take a shower, brush your teeth, or be unkempt and anyone who doesnt like that is superficial? Good to know. Laci does that untidy hair thing on purpose.. and that turns me off. Some people like untidy hair, that's their Taste. Not me.. If you like your girls looking like they just had rough sex and came out of bed, that's your opinion, don't force that on others. lol. I didn't say I prefer girls with big tits and big ass. So a cloaking device that needs your viewer to wear 4 lenses? You are not cloaking yourself you are blinding your viewer only. Or you are going to wear 4 layers of lenses and kinda box yourself up? We know lenses can bend light and by bending in the right angle we can bend around an object. nothing new but it doesn't seeem to be a device.

    Most people of the recent generations, always impressed by the most stupid and insignificant of _scientific_ novelties. Show me self-replicating nanobots, *practical* time-travel [edit: because time-travel, if put in practice would not at all help any problems humanity has ever faced], strong AI, human cloning, functional human cryostasis and maybe, maybe I will be impressed with humanity's current technological advances.
    Show me global laws and/or standards that apply to all humans, regardless of age, gender identity, sexual orientation and/or ethnic/cultural background (true equality); parents that don't indoctrinate, or lie to their children; people who aren't sensitive to words, or how things are said/written; teens that don't think acting foolish is a synonym of success; parents who do not encourage children to think that they are supposed to play and have fun in place of studying and maturing as quickly as possible in order to have their adult time free of inadequacies and ignorance that eventually cause them to NOT have fun, ever; parents that when teachers have sex with students, or their young teens become pregnant, or when their children murder others or do anything stupid, do not act all surprised... And, maybe, just maybe, I will be impressed by how far we've come as a species.
    Until then, shut your yappers and go back to school!

    • @EmyllSomar
      @EmyllSomar 10 років тому +1

      zehmeester,
      oh, how cute, did you just discover that (reverse-rephrasing someone's sarcastic/rhetorical remarks in an attempt to seem clever) or is it something you do often while YT trolling...
      I don't know if you understand the concept of allowing others to have their opinions, or suggestions, if they bother you that much. Or, the concept of moving-the-fuck-on when said opinions/suggestions hurt your butt and twist your undies, but it is pretty sad.
      Now, allow me to politely respond to your imbecilic question.
      *Simple: start educating yourselves, raising people properly *AND* stop wasting time researching novelty pseudo-scientific crap, instead of working on relevant issues.*
      OH, and don't waste your time trying to rationalize that _useful_ discoveries have been made while researching unrelated technology.
      Have a wonderful day, Bucky! :)

      PoxHaunted,
      *PRACTICAL* "time travel"
      way to not fucking read, moron!
      "Utopian..." wow, that escalated quickly-unless, of course you're just digging material for subsequent _ad hominem_ attacks you're preparing. Why is this _utopian_ expectation of the world and humanity, of trying their maximum potentials, to not be incompetent and to not perpetuate ignorance, such a horrible idea?
      And, how is it that everyone seems to have time on YT to jump in to whine about how others "whine so much about problems, but don't do anything to fix them..." Yet, they aren't doing anything themselves. Or, waste their own precious time rationalizing one of the oldest, most fallacious and dumbest argument someone could come up with "You should DO something instead of talking, writing and/or suggesting alternative solutions and ideas..." When clearly 1. you're doing exactly that, and 2. proposing and suggesting ideas *IS* doing something, as opposed to simply bashing others with no useful alternatives.
      Idiot.
      P.S. don't bother, it was all rhetorical. Even though, I know you or someone else wont bother to read and have some other wannabe-clever retort. So go ahead.

      Emyll Somar - eyeroll - It's a saying, not something to be stubbornly nit-picked over, *obviously*.
      I don't see how they misinterpreted the comment, or took it out of context...?
      The *point* was that if you're so intelligent, why are you wasting time on the comments of UA-cam, where nothing you say will ever change anyone's opinion and does absolutely no good? Go be intelligent somewhere it'll make a difference. Go be a professor or something at a college, or have a job where you can be a guest speaker at universities, and then you can teach the generation how to be such exemplary parents.
      Go change the world, and don't bother anymore with commenting *on the video* of a popular science-based YT learning channel about how it's pointless t watch because you, one person, don't care about the particular science they're talking about.
      But, like I said before, comments on UA-cam (or any other site) will never change anyone's minds, so I know you're just going to come back with something else, and I honestly have better things to do with my time than argue with you(hence the reason my first answer was so short). Thus, I'm not coming back to this and I'm muting it. Feel free to respond if it makes you feel any better.

      Allam Rushdi I have seen some early proto-beta versions in photos.. people have posted.. they weren't a perfect invisibility but they were more camouflage using tiny camera with single pixels built into the pixel. it projects behind it on another pile of what is in front of it, and vice versa in an x,y,z axis. no doubt this thing has been perfected since then.. perhaps it's real expensive to make.. and may not work against night vision or FLIR unless they were able to cool it and add some light filter to the naked eye but not FLIR.

And that vanished without a trace and cops and security guards had no clue how he went pass them ? They watched all areas of the buildings and floors of that building and they can't figure out how he got pass them ? Ps the government very good at down playing high teck science concepts they have discovered way back when they started in Area 51 under ground secrets top secret basses all over planet Earth having sciencetist go beyond main stream science as we know it and only now scieientist looking in and not looking out are discovering same high teck science principals that the sciencetist found way back when in the past

  • @jeaniebird999

    So you have to look through the lens to NOT see something?! I would think cloaking devices might be more useful when the other party doesn't have to do something in order to make the cloak work! The whole idea is that the other guy doesn't KNOW there's anything there, in the first fucking place!
    Still, it's pretty cool "looking".

  • @diziblonde1860
    @diziblonde1860 7 років тому

    This is the opposite of what one would want to use this for, meaning you can't send the lenses to your enemy so they then couldn't see you lol. So for the intents and purposes of making soldiers for example, invisible, they would need some technology that perhaps they could wear that did something similar, or had the same effect. I mean a liquid crystal infused fabric, that was able to "SEE" and then project the images behind the soldier, would give the illusion of invisibility, but this here, well it wouldn't work well, unless you were the dumb one, using the optics your enemies created lol

  • @adamrumer

  • @christopherrose4970
    @christopherrose4970 10 років тому

    this is not a cloaking device as I see it. Cloaking would be to not be able to see something in an every day situation. This device is something that you KNOW you are looking into in order to NOT see the object on the other side. This is like looking into a telescope, knowing that you aren't going to see what you have focused onto. Cloaking something is the ability to hide something without the knowledge of the person looking at it. Seeing a bunch of lenses as we try to focus on something down field is quite obvious.

    All you need to be able to do is make a material that can output led video, a miniature 360° camera that can see it's surroundings in realtime, and you've got invisibility.
    PS no the video wasn't cloaking technology of the future, there are some applications but none feasibly usable like a cloak that is wearable and renders the wearer invisible.
