Thank everyone who has listened, David Moch & Chuck Jefferson and NYT we truly are grateful for spreading the word in this song. This was my first big recording. We recorded this at CBA Studios on 54th & Crenshaw Los Angeles, CA This was the first gospel rap ever to be released and played on K-Max radio in LA. It was said by one of radios DJ at that time the song was of the enemy: As said in the song " Read it yourself, in Matthew 5 verse 1 Again thank you. We're yet doing music hit us up. 661.492.0324 I also had the honor of playin bass on Dear Mama (Tupac) yup
I remember this! I think I must have the LP somewhere in storage. Truly a part of Christian Hip Hop history!! I just learned of a release by MC Sweet in 1982 on Lection/Polygram, so Wiley wasn't necessarily first, but I understand his distinction. Celebrating all these CHH pioneers. We 40 years strong fam!!
With this being a 1984 jam, why is Steven Wiley's Bible Break cassette recognized as the first ever distributed Christian rap song since it released in 1985.
Stephen Wiley’s Bible Break was the first ever full length Christian rap ALBUM ever released. So he’s recognized as releasing the first full length album not the first single. Stephen Wiley did state himself in an interview, that Frank Hook (One of the artists who performed with this group) was the first gospel rap track he heard before he released Bible break and this track gave him the inspiration to release Bible break.
