This is cool! I'm not ready to give up my 24' 392 Rubicon but I'll let these come out a few years, work the kinks, ensure the company is as rugged as they say and go from there. I love their message "American-born, American-made". SOLD

If I remember correctly, that's how modern trains work. They have a diesel engine to charge the batteries and the batteries run the train.

Close...Many locomotives are "Diesel/Electric"...but with no batteries. The diesel engine simply runs an electrical generator which powers electric motors at the wheel locations.

It looks like a Rivian but dimensionally it’s almost the same size as a Ford F150. It’s 229 inches long and 80 inches wide.

With current technology, battery is still having lower energy density than "dead dinosaurs", and they are dead heavy. I'm actually liking the REEV idea way better than BEV.

They're a start-up after International Harvester went out of business and rights were bought through VW and the creation of Scout Motors was born. These are near pre-production vehicles, nearly 85% complete.

I had a Scout back in the day. Their engines were overbuilt. The IH 304, 345 and 392 were also used in their medium duty trucks and did not have a timing chain, but timing gear (392 was used in the Travelalls, and not available for the Scout). There used to be confusion by some mechanics, assuming that the IH 304 was the same as AMC 304.

The Broncos were modeled after the original Scouts to compete with them. Now that the Scout takes cues from older Scouts, they say they look like Broncos. 😂

@@jeargunky2210 100% truth. IH created the SUV as we know it today...just too early. Believe last Scout manufactured was either '80 or '81...so had they hung on for another 10-15 yrs they would have crushed it, sadly. Either way, glad to see em get a 2nd life...placed my Traveler resi last week. Fingers crossed that I'll be able to afford it when they're released, lol.

Excellent Input Mr. Casey..... The range extension scheme should be adopted by other competitors, the less emissions agenda also needs more approaches like these ones. Personally not much of an EV groupie, cause I think we all like that throaty roar of a V8, but if we need to get back at the planet some how this would be a nice way to step in... and let the V8s for another purpose less environmental damaging and with the assurance of having the high output at will, and stability that the high output that electricity somehow galloping can often catch you off guard

Not gas engine. Its a generator that will charge the battery. Still power out vs power in. Onc reach the 500 have to charge. Good local offroad will not replace overland vehicles unless you can charge and have time

It’s all about aerodynamics with these EV’s. Weight doesn’t matter hardly as much. They have immense and instantaneous power (1000lbft torque) so don’t suffer as much as gas engines. Even better than diesels. So going slow it’ll be better than gas. Fast it’ll be about the same.
Snow wheeling you’re going to lose about the same as gas trucks as there’s a lot of wheel spin and it takes some computing for it to try and figure it what it should do.
It’s better than most gas trucks except some with aftermarket extended tanks as you have 500 base miles and then all the jerry cans you already would have with a normal gas truck but you get all the benefits of the electric drivetrain like 1000lbft instant torque, low center of gravity, no losses due to idling, etc.

I want to be excited but just know that these will be priced way out of the range of the average consumer. Starting at $60K means these are going to get very likely north of $85K with options and you know they’ll put a lot of the off-road goodies together with creature comforts to be sure they get every penny they can from buyers.
But what do I know? I’m just some regular guy who doesn’t want to pay $1200+/month for a vehicle.

VW purchased rights to the Scout brand and announced they were working on these a few years ago. Since VW admitted they're not great at software, they reached a $5B agreement with Rivian which designed the Scouts software. The original Scout definitely competed with the original Bronco and shared many design cues. I personally love what they did and Im far from being an EV fan.

The problem with RE in a back may be heat delivery to cabin... it needs to be mixed somehow with heat pump to heat or cool battery smart way. Main idea of REEV over PHEVs with a big battery -- much les complexity and service issues. Here it looks like a problem. All in China REEVs have ICEgen in front.

Truck all the way. Bench is cool but I like the functionality and storage in a console. Driving a Tesla and a Gladiator now. Love the electric driving experience and love the Jeep off road. Could be an interesting combination here. Developing a service and support network will be huge as well as the battery make-up and protection for colder climates. Lots of infrastructure for them to figure out before 2027.

I wonder if the EV generator has to meet current EPA emissions regs. If so, that generator option won't be a penny less than $15,000 US. If not, they might offer it for $10K.

Something I picked up in your rewatch, looks like the Harvester range extender is only available with the SUV, probably since it's in the back and no room under the bed to put it there. Overall I like it, LOVE keeping physical buttons, that's my biggest issue with EV's these days. I do like the idea of overlanding with an EV, being quiet in the woods, and having power for stuff at camp. I was leaning towards the pickup even though I like the looks of the SUV better, to get the utility of a bed (and a bed rack), but without the range extender in the pickup....

But 2 years is a long time, and anything could happen, look at the promises vs. delivered for the Cybertruck. Backing of VW is handy, their CEO has been around for a while (used to be in charge of Audi North America for a while), but still, anything can happen. We'll see what they're able to deliver.

    • @toddeichelberger179
      @toddeichelberger179 Місяць тому +1

I stand corrected, there's a view of the pickup on their website that shows the "harvester" door on the passenger front quarter panel, so I guess it will be available on both models. Assuming it happens at all....

REEV works best in hybrid mode -- it decides then to run ICEgen so it can add power on top of battery limits in heavy load moments and knowing route can top up battery in speed limited moments and allow not only EV mode at start but also EV at the end point. China right now flooded with similar SUVs and trucks. Some are PHEVs with ICEtoWheels connection time-to-time for off-road combined power or highway cruise. Most sold same as Scout type REEV is LiAuto L9, watch an reviews. Its in city cruiser SUV but you can get an idea. in China BEV+REEV+PHEVs can have green plates only if they deliver mandated # of EV only miles and overall efficiency. If you can't -- blue plates and BAN for sales/use in all big cities.

I have been wishin" and hopin' for something like this. I don't like the current EVs or Hybrids for off road or for highway. A gasoline generator for a motor to allow a range similar, if not better, than an ICE vehicle. And it will be in a SUV version as well as a P/U version. I will be looking hard at one of these options. I hope they prove themselves off road capable and comfortable for long highway trips in the next couple of years.

I find it to be utterly disappointing. I would have dropped everything to buy a turbo V6 but pay big money for a V8. I'm so sick and tired of vehicles being offered as EV's.... I will never purchase one in my lifetime, and they keep missing the mark of what their target audience should and would want. Just very disappointed.
