Nobody seems to be talking about this, but Scott Keogh (President/CEO) said that while the Scout has 35" tires now, there could potentially be a larger option! This thing with 37" tires (or 40s!) would be crazy. Here's where he mentioned it in the Scout reveal video: ua-cam.com/video/3RIvPzJbcGc/v-deo.html Regardless, I preordered a Traveler which I hope I can get in that Terra blue. Also, just a heads up; if you aren't sure which model you want, you only need to put down one deposit because you can change vehicle type up until your order goes into the production queue. And if you do switch, you don't lose your place in line. That info is on the Scout website under the Support section.
@ 15:56. I own a Rivian R1S, love it. I’ve put over 55k miles on it doing cost to coast trips and some real off-roading around Red Rock Nevada and Broken Arrow Trail in AZ. I car camp and mountain bike with it all over the country. The cool thing about the Scout Frunk is it will allow for inductive cooking out of there. You can fit a full camp kitchen in that little cubby under false bottom. I know because I put one in the false bottom of the Rivian. The thing about cooking in the front vs the back for me, is that the inside of the vehicle sometimes smells like steak when I’m done…not a terrible thing 😂, but it would be nice to cook out and keep the small out. I don’t even loose 1 mile when cooking inductive, game changer for camping.
Love to hear your maximizing the R1S experience. We owned one for a bit to ensure we got in a good review. Overland/Camping is the#1 use case! I hope we earned your subscription.
You aren't looking hard enough. They are fairly similar. Obviously the front is different. The software looks very similar, the interior is similar. To me saying it's similar is actually a compliment.
I get why people say it, as it has a similar approach to aero treatments around the vehicle, but it's a very different design in totality and very much SCOUT
This thing is not the same thing as a rivian. The fact they kept it BOF, solid axle, and front sway bar disconnect it’s already better than the rivian ever could be off-road.
Rivian definitely has a spare in the truck. I have one in my truck currently. Full size underneath the bed. The SUV can accommodate a mini spare, but not a full size in its underfloor rear storage.
I own a Scout 2, and I wish they could've kept the front hinge hood. It's one of my favorite features that people always get confused when you pop the hood. But I LOVE the fact they gave you a digital Christmas Tree gauge. I reserved one.
Man that's cool. Hope you end up with some side by side footage of old and new. Would make for a great video. Be sure to check out our Facebook group for reservation holders! facebook.com/groups/1094351335616996/?ref=share&mibextid=NSMWBT
This is brilliant y’all! Good talk and great points mentioned! Still a lot of specs tight lipped and projections/estimations to fulfill.. can’t wait to see what is to come! 🤘🏼👍🏼
They should outsource the range extender and use either INNEngines e-Rex or Cosworth’s CatGen. Both would be low maintenance, small, light weight, and efficient and both were specifically built to be range extenders.
We'll find out eventually. Didn't know that they look any weaker than anytime else coming to market these days. Even Toyota downsized steering rods and control arms on the off-roaders, claiming advances in metallurgy
I hope it’s 300 miles on the range extender version. On the forums, they’re saying 150 miles as the battery will be less than half the regular size. Hope they’re wrong. I’m not sure it’s the best of both worlds though. Engine maintenance (lack thereof) is one of the reasons I’m attracted to an EV in the first place.
Has anyone given any thought to who they are a subsidiary to and that company partnering with a battery company in development of a solid state battery? It’s proposed that the parent company’s solid state battery should be available by 2027 (they are currently testing their B samples in vehicles now). If the Scouts are equipped with solid state batteries, these vehicles will be game changers!! Not only will they be able to charge from 10% to 80% in 12 to 15 minutes, the rev should charge a depleted battery in around the same time as vehicle are currently being charged now…exciting stuff ahead…if they make the right moves
Do you think the 240V outlet will be a NEMA 14-50 connector (50-amp like in the Cybertruck), or just 14-30R like in others like Ford Pro Power Onboard and Sierra EV truck?

Stay tuned. The next Scout video will be all about how the Scout looks like a Scout and how Rivian pulled from a ton of 70s/80s American SUV design heritage
@@ROMRreviews Ok lets not be totally ridiculous here, no one is saying it doesn't have the look of an old scout but it does look like a Rivian down to nearly the same measurements and Lets be clear the Rivian is being built now and the Scout is not. Also do you not realize that VW and Rivian have a joint partnership and Rivian is underpinning the Scout with the software and the electrical architecture. You said yourself that those headlights look like a Porsche. This is absolutely a Rivian/Porsche collaboration and it shows in the design and the build.
Calling this a tweener isn't very accurate. The wheelbase is longer than the F150 and the Ram 1500. 148" for the Scout and 144 for the Ford and Ram. I believe the width is wider than both of those trucks as well. 229" long which I believe is the same as the Ram. The Terra is also taller as well. This is a full size truck in my opinion.

@56:32. I don’t want to be a comment hog, but I’m sure glad you pointed this out. Not a lot of other UA-cam channels are saying this enough. There’s no way, we are getting what we saw in the launch for the base price. It will be a base version with a lot more hard plastic in the interior (milk crate seats maybe?) No 35” ATs, no tire carrier, no glass or canopy roof. Probably coil springs and no air compressor.
Absolutely. Scout leadership confirmed this after the fact. We saw the "hero truck" versions at launch event. Back of the envelope says those versions will be just north of $80k
Yes right now the VW group has medium quality builds,by the time we see these on the roads things will hopefully be much better. Otherwise if they dont do to much changes to production these should be nice specially with the small engine for off-roads trips.no worries tho be without energy. 148 in wheelbase is definitely half ton full size. F150 crew with 5.5 bed has 145 in wheelbase

They should design the frunk to be able to store the space tire.
YES!
Half or all of the frunk could carry an aux fuel tank for even more range.
Don't love it there, but suppose so

how is that solid axle supposed to be driven? if through a cardan shaft where would it be placed?
The EDM, reduction gearing is mounted directly on the solid axle
