  • Cross-threaded nut was on a stud that was "free-wheeling."

    Good Vid!
    Hack: DO NOT TAKE OFF CALIPER, REMOVE THE BRACKET BOLTS AND THE CALIPER COMES OFF WITH IT. 2 bolts off..2 bolts on..done.

    I just did this job on a 98 Rav4. So simple and thanks for the tip on fishing in the stud with the nut. Great idea. I ended up using a spare lug nut to bring it in that happened to be tapered just right.

    If you just took off the brake caliper bracket bolts it comes off in one piece you don't have to remove all of that

    This old machinist says....do not hammer on hubs, good way to ruin a wheel bearing...use a c clamp type stud ' pusher '.....also just remove the bracket and the caliper as an assembly....worked for me...!

    Thank well explained!! Will be able to change mine on a RAV4 . It broke.last winter when I put my winter tire on. To day I put my summer tire back on and check that . The broken piece full off on its own. This winter got lucky it did not damage nothing. Somme time you need a bit of luck!!

    So he explains what he's gonna do and what he has done but doesn't show you how it's actually done, total waste of a video dude. We wanna see action put into play not just talking about it.

    You can put the stud in the freezer overnight to make it easier to install too..

      @@joe1071 yes, metal shrinks under colder temperatures. It is how bearings are meant to be installed

    I love watching these examples of what to do when things go wrong. Hardest thing would be to avoid marking the surface of the wheel if you slip with the cutting wheel. Some kind of sacrificial guard might be worth while.

      Hardest thing is the person talking forever about minutia instead of getting on with it.

    Just watched a vid on doing this job on a Honda. There is a back plate which stops the new bolt going in..Nightmare job. On this Toyota there is already a cut out in the back which allows that... We have two Camrys... yippee !

    Very helpful.
    What are the torque specs of the bolts?

    • @Zeek800
      @Zeek800 8 місяців тому

      What bolts? The wheel stud ( lug )? They aren’t torqued they are pulled in until the head of the stud is flush with the back of the wheel hub. There is a tool for this or else you can use 2 or 3 thick washers over the stud and screw a lug nut on to draw the stud through until it sits flush. The wheel stud has about a 1/3 inch of “ grooves” at the end below the head and those “ grooves “ bite into the hole of the hub that the stud sits in.
