Hi Alice, The reason behind overlapping contacts is incorrect horizontal angulation. The best way to do this right, is that after film placement, you stand in front of the patient, and make sure that the outer rim of the cone is parallel to cheek of the patient, thus you will make the X-ray will pass between the teeth and np overlapping occurs. Unless the teeth are overlapped in mouth, this you can't control.
My instructor explained this so many times to me but my brain couldn’t process completely. I understand the concept I just don’t know how to open contacts on a molar shot. I’ve already watched your molar video it helped but I’m not sure about a few points. Do I need to retract the cheeks ? If I move the pid distally wouldn’t that open the contacts for a molar shot ? You see what I mean ?! Lol 😂 I’m confusing myself
Dear Nasr.Phoenix, thank you for passing by the channel. No need to retract the cheek, Here's what to do: 1- After adjusting the vertical angulation correctly, stand in front of your patient. 2- Move the PID (around a pivot, not distal to molars) so that the margin of the PID is aligned parallel to the cheek. 3- You need to be in front of the patient to insure parallelism of the PID and cheek. Once the PID and cheek are parallel, the X-ray beam will pass between contact, and you will have open, non-overlapping contact points. I hope I made it clear. Best regards, Saad
