Dan John has spent his life with one foot in the world of lifting and throwing, and the other foot in academia. An All-American discus thrower, Dan has also competed at the highest levels of Olympic lifting, Highland Games and the Weight Pentathlon, an event in which he holds the American record.
Dan spends his work life blending weekly workshops and lectures with full-time writing, and is also an online religious studies instructor for Columbia College of Missouri. As a Fulbright Scholar, he toured the Middle East exploring the foundations of religious education systems. Dan is also a Senior Lecturer for St Mary’s University, Twickenham, London.
His books, on weightlifting, include Intervention, Never Let Go, Mass Made Simple and Easy Strength, written with Pavel Tsatsouline as well as From Dad, To Grad. He and Josh Hillis co-authored “Fat Loss Happens on Monday.”
In 2015, Dan wrote Can You Go? on his approach to assessments and basic training. In addition, Before We Go, another compilation akin to Never Let Go became an Amazon Bestseller.
In early 2017, Dan’s book, Now What?, his approach to Performance and dealing with “life,” became a Bestseller on Amazon. Hardstyle Kettlebell Challenge became available in September 2017, too.
Dan, just wanted to say thanks for everything. I’m not an elite athlete by any means, but whenever I stick to one of your philosophies I see your predictions come true. Mass made simple lite, corrective training, etc. You’re the man
Great to hear!
"They know what it feels like to throw up in a bucket." LOL!!
I agree with Dan. You can't go wrong. I did 5-3-1 at age 51 and made good, steady strength gains for the year and a half I followed it. Both my squat and deadlift went from three to four plates plus.
Excellent.
Which temple did you run and how much volume did you do?
Two highest PR’s came from 5/3/1 for my squat and Easy Strength for my press.
I don't know if you follow my work, but I am starting to realize that some of us tend to be better at push or pull, hinge or squat, and programs need to support this.
If I do Easy Strength as my park bench routine 5 days a week, when would you recommend to switch lifts to a different variation?
After 40 days.
Dan John Thank you!
Can you talk about anti glycolitic cardio training? Great videos👌☺
Search Maffetone on my channel. I've covered this quite a bit.
Dan, I'm curious to know your opinion on Isometric training. Specially, the Isochain that available through Dragondoor.
I'm always open to new tools. I use bodyweight, free weights, kettlebells etc. I appreciate opinion. Thanks Jeff.
Save your $450 and go to home depot. Buy some 3/8 chain and a couple of pipes from plumbing and test out isometrics.
@@MrDoakleaf I thought about a do it yourself. Thank you!
@@beck-tn9gl Look at the 'Quarantine Machine' article on Breaking Muscle.
I like them if you follow the correct protocols. Infrequent exposure, low volume.
