I remember back in the 80s and 90s being able to go into my local owned shoe store and buying Jordan's with no issue. If they weren't in stock they could order them no issue.
Word?? I’ve never heard any OGs talk about being able to order them. That’s cool to know.
It may have been easy to buy a that time but that was also a era when ppl was being robbed & killed for Jordans keys not 4get that part... In 2022 not so much
And they were only 150$ …tops 200$. That’s why I won’t buy any today. I’ve had em all at 150 bucks before. If I’m paying over 200 for shoes, I’m going designer.
100% agree on the larger point of this video. Here's hoping the giants in the industry will change their release mechanisms, because current state is clearly not working for consumers that actually want the products.

@@ericq9049 From my perspective, the shoe companies are leaving money on the table though. If they did the pre-order route, their supply meets the demand (or close to it). Right now they're leaving a lot of meat on the bone.
I actually like how these look. Disappointed the materials aren’t high end with that $300 price point, so I would end up passing on these 💔

For those of us that skew away from hype and enjoy the kicks pre-order is awesome. A hybrid FCFS with preorder would be ideal. I mean I just preordered ALD 650s and I won’t get the til March…and I’m okay with that.

The idea of a pre order, an actual pre order I might add is wonderful. I don't mind waiting for production of the shoe. My pair is guaranteed. Especially when it's so difficult to cop pairs already made on release day. The brands love the frenzy of releases where some get them and others don't. Their logic is, you didn't get this shoe then you might buy something else. No I won't buy something else. I wanted that specific shoe. If I wanted something else I would have bought it already. Sorry for the rant.
unfortunately due to everyone complaining about the long shipping time kiy said on instagram that he’s stopping the preorder model and is just making limited pairs.
@@jd7457 Exactly, that's the only aspect I wish Chris had caught before making this video (wouldn't be surprised if that IG post isn't up anymore so I understand how he maybe missed it), Jordan Brand doing pre-orders would be that times a million lol. People aren't patient. The only difference would be that JB would communicate WAYYYY better than Kiy was.
If it becomes thats available and that easy to cop you won't be patient anymore. If it's not instant u would skip on them. You only wait for thing hard to get.

Open preorders!! All of your videos are great just given how thorough they are and the camera work, super appreciate that you speak out, and ask for what the people want too.
This is one of the best reviews I’ve ever seen. You make very valid points and I’m here for it. Preorders take a while to get but that’s understandable because it’s made to order. If this concept was applied to highly sought after sneakers, it would change the culture for the better. I personally like the look of the shoe (KIY) and the colorways but I refused to pay that much for a bootleg that’s poor quality. Great job on this review man.

The pre order idea is excellent. Virtually everything else clothing related I buy these days is through something like that, why not sneakers?

I don't agree with pre orders, because you don't know what you're gonna get in terms of quality. You can only guarantee you're gonna get *something*.

Nike should do preorders. They can have you pay $50 up front and the rest when the shoe ships. On top of that they can make enough to keep the retail stores happy.

If these are $300, you can def find some Jordan 1’s for less than that on resell. These do look alright though.
I’m with you on the Bapes - I’ve never understood the point of them. Like you said I just felt like the AF1’s were always better and made more sense. Never understood the point of them and I’ve never owned a pair because of that.

The pink is a solid colorway. The orange is cool too but I’m loving the pink. ABSOLUTELY agree with your about Bapes….never understood the hype for bootleg AF1s. Funny enough growing up, there was a store in my neighborhood that sold bootleg bapes. 🤣

The only bootleg Jordan worth are the Fugazi “One In the Chamber”and tbh Reps have been so good to the point it’s better than the actual shoe. Nike/Jordan releases this year have been so disappointing when it comes to quality

As for the bootleg Industry and these in particular although I love a good sturdy box it is sad to see that these are even worse quality than a normal pair of 1s. That's even after he raised the price up 40-50 dollars! I bought a pair like you to see what the hype was about, but despite the great colorways I'd say it definitely was not even close to being worth it. Still gonna wear them into the ground to get good use out of em 🤷🏻♂️
I'm a fan of SIA, where the man draws inspiration from things (like the Jordan 1), and puts some additional story telling in, and really puts quality materials on the upper
I'm not a fan of these (or the others you named), where it's basically a 1:1 reproduction with only the logo/name modified. I get that Nike makes it too hard for us consumers to get what we want, but this isn't the solution - pre-order I feel would be best. And maybe it wouldn't kill the resell market, but it would definitely allow people that want the shoe to get them without having to pay resale on the regular

Meh, putting a vulture head on Mario or turtle shell isn’t exactly story telling . SIA thinks he’s special or unique when actuallity he’s a different form of bootlegging that’s often weak with the themes. Taking others IP and adding a vulture logo isn’t revolutionary or that creative to be taking shots at other bootlegs as if he’s some how superior, when they all are in the same boat. Not mad at bootlegs, bootlegs are needed in culture, but don’t throw shots at people when you do the same
I have the pink pair and a royal pair and absolutely love them, solid review and respect your opinions
The Bapestas and the Revenge Vans are simply expensive and "accepted" due the hype surrounding them.
With the Bapestas obviously from BAPE and the Revenge's being designed by Ian Connor (a designer/ stylist close with artists like Kanye, ASAP Rocky and Playboi Carti).
What did Ian Connor designed tho? The thunder? throwing a name on something don’t make it better, please people don’t be fooled by marketing, that’s what it does to your brain

@@DREiPowah Pretty sure Travis is a collab I don’t give him any recognition of “designing” the sneakers. It’s hyped tho, because consumers dig the look of the shoe, and I’m pretty sure there’s no battle of “whos a better sneaker designer between Travis Scott or Virgil?” But you could argue about Kanye and Jerry.
Love that you showed this, pass for me based on the materials but I would be interested in different color ways and a non swoosh
He had a pop up here in miami before the most recent one and the turn out was crazy, I was there cause someone wanted me to pick up a pair for them, they do look dope but def not worth the price but the overall point you mentioned about the state of buying sneakers is key. The only way to battle hype is availability but they fear availability will decrease the demand
So, about pre-orders, while on paper I think its an excellent idea, in practice, it probably wouldnt work so well. If they did that and actually made pairs per order, you start playing with the idea of pre-ordering months to a year in advance to accommodate manufacturing on mass demand for hyped releases, second the days of early pairs and getting reviews and knowing the quality before hand changes dramatically, perhaps they could do a small sample run, but even that far in advance, would the retails pairs even use the same quality materials by then. I think logistically it would be tough to do pre-orders so who ever wants one can get one, even if it is just a hours to days time window for pre-order availability, PLUS I think would probably want to do regular stock because their other partner retailers have to eat too, unless there was some way to pre-order through these retailers. A lot changes when you introduce pre-orders, I would be all for it if it made sense and improved the current sneaker climate, but its a slippery slope that I think could be disasterous, and things are already moving toward disaterous as it is.

Pre-orders for shoes....one per household? Hmmmmm...Very good point!! But we know Nike, and Yeezy will not do that. That would just about kill resellers and make botting for kicks a thing of the past.
One per household is a little hard though cause multiple people who are into shoes live in the same house. Other wise I agree. Maybe a 2 per household or something similar

I actually own this colorway and the blue bandana joints. I like these, and his merch is gas. I like the facts he comes up with different colorways.
I was legit about to go into full hate mode about this shoe. Then when you made the point about how much big brands actually care about the average consumer, it made me switch my position and say... well "You can't knock the hustle". Now I wouldn't mess with them personally...I just ain't with the thunder bolt but aye.. you can't knock the hustle. So I ain't mad.. great content as always 👏
Now since I've gotten older I've been into more comfy running and hiking shoes. And I've noticed that overseas euro sites carry a larger variety of "runners/trainers/hikers"

We are in an interesting time to be a Sneakerhead, with so many options in the market. Unfortunately the resell market is currently affecting true fans from being able to purchase their favorite sneakers. Hopefully these major “Brands”, will get on board and mass produce top selling sneakers.
It's hard to get aj1 highs, but it's also becoming hard to get mids because they are the new trend for IG "influencers" to wear. It went from af1s, to Fila's, and now it's aj1 highs and mids.
Tell me about it I've given up on highs I just try to grab mids and lows now lol
It's so crazy I was telling my son how back when I was in high school Jordan 1s were the lesser Jordans nobody cared about. I had a pair of all white Dunks from the Nike outlet for $60. Now to him those 2 shoes are incredible lol

I have been talking Pre-order for 2 years now. They could raise the price of retail for all I care, as long as I can get a pre-order of them then I'm good.
I also agree that not every shoe needs to be a pre-order. I say that because I think it would keep the game interesting.
i would love if the industry adopted pre-orders for potentially coveted sneakers but when the new Aime Leon Dore x NB 650 did pre-orders, so many said “i’m not waiting six months”

@@328450J yeah those don’t do too well with resell. and it hurts the demand for travis merch at the end of the day cus everyone who really wanted them was able to get em. which, i think, Nike thinks will hurt them in the long run. BUT, like i said, those that really want them will get em. so i think pre-orders are best for consumers, but not sure for Nike

Pre-orders won't hurt anyone's pockets, or companies margin what so ever. Even if there is a long waiting period, so be it. Anything is better than what we are dealing with now with all these bots and backdooring. Pre-orders won't hurt Nike at all either. The Nike and Jordan brand has been going strong since the 80's and is definitely not slowing down any time soon. Even the weakest of Jordan shoes (Electro Orange for example) sale out dat one. To sit there and say that Pre-orders would slowly kill Nike's hype and be bad for business is absolutely crazy.

I recently picked up my first pair. I was surprised with the quality and presentation. They also arrived on my doorstep in three or four days.
I wouldn't say Kiys are easy to access though. He doesn't have a simple, consistent way for people to cop and pairs fly when they do drop.
I got my Cloud WZRD Menthol 91's today (ColorAlbum). Same approach, But they are dope
i have one of the original Air Kiy ‘Bred’ colorway and i have to say the materials are A-1. My pair still has the AJ1 outsole and here in NYC these are very popular. Wait times were BRUTAL tho; i copped on Thanksgiving for $200 and got them this past May..

I know this review is 8 Months ago, I agree with you as far what you said about the Sneakers(Bape, The Bootleg Vans, and these). They are suppose to be HIGH END with Bape that I feel was the 1st REAL BOOTLEG of Sneaker with an ACTUAL STORE N CLOTHING LINE. Which had a lot of celebrities attached to the brand and made millions of dollars. I was definitely one of those guys that LOVED BAPE even though I knew it was rip off of Air Force 1 lows. Brands have always copied one another and if Kiy is doing his thing that I guess let him do his thing. The colors are crazy and if this was 10-15 years ago I would’ve been all over it. But it’s not for me personally, nice guy spoke to him on IG, but not for me. Wish them the BEST!!!

honest reviews are the best reviews. im not into bootleg shoes, i'm not trying to floss on the gram like a lot of people do when they get these knockoffs and actually show them off as real. the closest i got to a bootleg was a S Shock, It lasted a very long time too. I got a real G Shock now though. Case and Point if a person really wants the name brand shoe buy the legit kind. But as we know a lot of people on the gram are fake fake fake, nobody wants to put in the money for real, and that can segway into a lot different things. these shoes yeah they look good, BUT will they fall apart in a week.

But kinda related to the KIY joints: I got the SIA Bred D.1.Y joints and hooooleeee crap do those smell like a Coach store. Like the leather quality is insane. And he paid such attention to the details on the shoe. Would be really interested to see what you think if you snagged a pair! :)

Aimè Leon Dore recently did preorders for the New Balance 650 for 24hrs. While it’s not the best solution due to the lead time being months, it’s better than fighting bots fs.

Can't please everybody. Only way pre-order really works is if its general release and Nike just isn't making a million pairs of Travis Scott 1s and why would they? The re-sellers are the real problem because they just buy up whatever inventory is available
Good review the shoe looks good I would get them but I don’t like the wait. And I would like to see something new in person before I buy it. And to answer your question the reason why Kiy is having a hard time compare to Bape is because newer and he’s black.

I honestly got pretty excited, looked like some pink power ranger shoes! Lol you can slap any symbol on the jordan one and it'll look nice, but a lightening bolt is next in line after the swoosh. I like these kinds of shoes, but 300 😬 na, I'll pass haha

There are certain shoes that are a staple in everyone's wardrobe. And the big companies know it, like an all white AF1, or a Stan Smith, those get produced all year round. I think a Jordan 1 Chicago or black toe should be another thing that is produced all year round. I don't know how many pairs I'd buy if they were all year round.
You ever see that video of the dad with like 15 pairs of the same New Balance that he wears for different occasions, because they're all in a different condition. That's how I'd be with the Chicago's or black toes.

Truth is that people want J1s BECAUSE they can't get it. Make them available to all (with a pre-order or other release method) and after a while they will start selling less and less.

Nike and Jordan brand needs to start making actual general releases of dope colourways of classic models. I understand keeping ogs somewhat limited but I always think about Jordan brand re-releasing maybe the yin yang pack every once in a while. Dope og shoe with classic branding but with really simple colourways
Can you do a review of Superb Sportswear’s Turbo 1, Turbo 2 or Stryker? They’re the company that has the actual TM on the bolt logo. They’re super comfortable and really well made ✌🏼
I’ve been saying this for years; Bape, Hinderscheme, and more are just bootlegs… but I love this early stage before they lose their souls to the hype framework. I love the idea behind these, that I can cop a silhouette that I like, have the look I desire, and have a standout pair of kicks. Hell, I’m a designer, I know how to make my own and really contemplated doing so because I’m tired of the hamster wheel of sneakers from the big corps. .

I wouldn't say pre orders would completely destroy the problems with reselling, but it would be a start. and idk why nike or any other brand would have a problem with that. My only thought on why someone at nike would have a problem with that would be "well on a regular drop, we release only so many shoes, so in a pre order it's a possibility that more than what we were expecting will be order" which..... like imagine being a company and your concern is that a lot of people want to buy your product, that's a dream for some companies, but to nike for some reason that's a con. Imagine a company being afraid that their product will sell more than they expected. That's wild to me

What kills me is how people ran to trash him when Nike doesn’t give 2 shits about their consumers and back door the shoes to influencers and even when and if you get the product the materials are crap!!! People need to stop being personally stuck to Nike as if Nike cares about any of us.
