Great job on the score Jeff!! I really like your chord progressions and they work really well with the story! Also, love the buildup in the middle! Good luck to you!!
Really well done, Jeff. I appreciate your interpretation very much. I've mentioned this on other entries I've seen pop up on YT, but it bears repeating here, that with every musical interpretation of this film, it seems to tell a different story. Without a director or a clear intention for how the audience should feel in a given scene, we're left to our own devices to create our own "emotional roadmap" in terms of how we want our music to make the audience feel- which has yielded some wildly creative results! (including this unique and professional score). I understand the frustration of obsessing over production details like the challenges of YT compression, but rest assured this sounds super clean and well-produced. Best of luck with it
Hi David, thanks for your in-depth and encouraging reaction. There's indeed a certain freedom of interpretation in this Berlin competition, that makes it interesting, where I choose to emphasize the drama and chaos kind of vibe of the world tearing down.
Interesting orchestration...It reminded me of some Tim Burton movies...I really like the final part when the flower grows and the credits...Well done! Good luck in the competition. I submitted mine few days ago too...👍
wow. I read this scene exactly, precisely, one hundred procent different!! But good job! I don't understand the dramatic change at 1:40, what changes there for you in the story? The John Williams cue at 1:55: perfect. Is still think there might be some theme/leitmotiv missing in general. So that the grand theme at the end could really shine. Hey question, I'm submitting mine today. But they said this: 5. Sharing the competition materials with third parties is strictly prohibited and it will lead to disqualification from the competition. UA-cam is third party right? How can you savely share this before or after the deadline and still be eligible?
Hi there Roelof, that's the nice thing of the BIFSC; there's this freedom of interpretation, creating all these different scores, that's the best part of this competition! I use this competition just to move my own borders on composition and production. Concerning the 1:40 point; I'm looking ahead musically, emphasizing the vibe that yet has to come, introducing dissonance already where things are pretty harmonic visually. Concerning the 1:55 point, I didn't go for the leitmotiv while I thought this was too small of a piece and a less character based story. Concerning the 3rd party question. I've read it also. However, all the material (original short film and winning sound design) was already available on UA-cam after the BIFSC Sound design finale in October 2024, so I wouldn't understand a eventual restiction of not posting my stuff before the deadline. Good luck with your entry, I will have a listen ;-)
@@jeffhijlkema This got passed unto me after the question, basically, you're right its fine! The quote: "Yes, participants can share their submission, please read below the sharing information. Participants should always include original credits of the film. The participants should not edit the video in any way, add or remove any credits, or alter or remove the introduction of the film and the competition statement. Good luck in the competition! I posted mine as well
@@jeffhijlkema And about 1:55 slight miscommunication, was talking in general across the board not 1:55 per se. I understand the approach! I'm still getting used to all the new versions to look at now that I'm finally finished, hahah.
@roelofmeijermusic5706 Exactly, that's why I only start listening to the others when I've got mine finished, send and uploaded, so I can stick to my score approach 🤪.

Great work scoring this, Jeff! Really nice orchestration and variety!

@@roelofmeijermusic5706 Thanks Roelof. I've asked them that same question last year before posting pre-deadline, and got that same answer 😉.
