It always trips me out when I remember that Jennifer Hudson and fantasia were both on the same season. I remember watching as a kid and the room GASPED when she was eliminated, the host was baffled and was literally like “guys you need to vote for the people you want to keep”. Candace Glover was also someone I loved on the show and was happy that she won, but I RARELY heard music from her again after that (then again I was like 12, BUT I WAS LOOKING 😂)
It trips me that they didn't let Jennifer and Fantasia make it to the finals. That would have been legendary to watch.
The real reason people stopped watching American Idol is because more entertaining talent shows kept being produced (Xfactor, Masked Singer, Sunday's Best, etc). American Idol was trash after season 7.
After season 8 it was garbage
i’d argue the point about runner ups having better careers is a bad one as it’s not the voice that always makes the songs it’s often the song itself and on these shows they perform others songs so they’re not gonna be the best artists, winners will rely on others to give them songs and if they get none they won’t have good careers

Love a good Patrick vid💪🏾 The Voice is the EXACT same way. The same type of people win every time. The most generic voices ever. However, that's when I say it's more of a producer thing as opposed to the viewership. You can tell- especially on the older seasons of American Idol and The Voice- judges wouldn't favor a certain voice, but they looked and sounded force to promote it (they'd have to hype up the person, but they wouldn't say anything of substance).
American Idol and The Voice know what their LOYAL viewers will aspire to be, aspire to be with, and relate to, so they rig that same type of person to win each year. The Voice got even WORSE than American Idol with that crap, but at least that show used to consistently have judges that could sing, were good musicians, or knew marketing very well- unlike American Idol. Neither have been enjoyable for YEARS.
yeaa ruben studdard season was rig too . my cousin Rickey Smith was on season 2 with him but his votes glitch out and they couldn't redo the votes .....

nah cause i stopped watching for the same reason. There were contestants on this show who would mop the floor with a lot of these winners. Tori Kelly, Jennifer Hudson, Adam Lambert, Daughtry.... and the mediocre people always advanced to the end. Like, they weren't bad singers but there is no reason that artists like Clay Aiken and Jason Castro. Jason Castros brother was actually on another season of American Idol and was 10 times better than him. They advance people who have more straight forward generic voices cause its easier to get them on the radio but so many GREAT singers get overlooked if their voice doesn't fit that generic bland.
