"House of the Rising Sun" from The Animal's "The Animals" album (1964).
Ahhhh a tiny little break from all the prog to appreciate a golden oldie. Allll the way over from 1964! Jeez!
But eh, I know that this song has been covered before on UA-cam, with tabs! But most of those videos are a different version. It's typically the same song you see in the clip, but without the outro. Anyway, the song itself is pretty straightforward. This song was not recorded in stereo which is already pretty bad. Now I might be wrong about this, but it seems like they mirror the track to make it stereo. But that's also the reason why it's slightly out of tune. Or they were just too lazy to tune. One or the other.
Some important information that nobody is going to read.
Tuning: E-A-D-G
Artist: The Animals
Bassist: Chas Chandler
Album: The Animals (1964)
Song: HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN
Bass: Warwick GPS Corvette 5A Ash
To clarify: THIS SONG IS NOT IN 3/4. IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE 6/8. Though it's almost the same thing, 6/8 has a different feeling. I actually messed up by using an online tab as reference and then later on I never checked the time signature for some reason.
Dont worry master !
Exactly! Both have the same number of eighth notes. The difference lies in how the eighth notes are grouped (into three pairs of eighth notes for 3/4 time, but into two groups of three eighth notes for 6/8 time).
Can't tell the difference
this made me count, & ive only just realised it’s not in 4/4. i can’t hear the difference, but when i count i can tell it only just matches after 12 counts
Almost the same thing, like 2 is almost the same as 3 :)
When I was a kid I asked for my first guitar. My mom said she’d get me one as long as I learned this song. Many a hard night was spent at age 12 but I learned it and momma was proud. Thanks for the cover and nostalgia.
That's such a great deal! I'm glad she did that
@@LeoBassCovers2 Great cover !! Thank you for putting up the tabs for us. I think of the ending of the Casino when I hear this.
Its strange yet refreshing to see such a simple bass part on this channel. Keep up the great work dude!
Thanks, will do!
that's pretty much the only song I learned to some special level when if somebody wakes me up at night and gives me a guitar to play it I will do it, no rehearsal or chord remembering needed. I really like the song and it was one of the first ones I learnt to play on guitar, then on bass.
We did this song for our music class and I got to play the bass and I loved it!! It was so fun to play and it sounds great!
That is great! Thinking about continuing on bass?
I couldn't tell you why, I've tried playing a half dozen other songs while learning, and this was the first song I actually played the whole way through, note changes and all. So, thank you from a fresh bass mind!
Wow, I'm glad I could help! And before you know it, you can play 10 full songs before the end of the year :)
@@LeoBassCovers2 Thats the goal, keepin rockin man!
All those bassists from the 60s played with a pick. At least the rock n roll and pop guys! This song is so energetic yet simple!
First song I've learned in bass, thanks!!! There's a long journey ahead but I'm making my dream come true
No problem. You'll get there :)
Same here!

it's a long wayyyy TO THE TOOOPPPP ♫♪
When it comes to bass, I'm still in the learning phase, but I've always loved the bass line in this song and your video with the tabs has helped tremendously! BTW, I just turned 60. Thank You!
Oh wow, that's amazing. No problem Kevin!
Just turned 60 also and bought the Bass from a pawn shop didn’t think I’d be sitting here rocking out this a song I love so thanks. Also rocking out Sex Pistols and Ramones and some Green Day
The kind support given by bass to support drums..that's real music.
those tab numbers, they do remind me something

What? I'm sorry

I have never watched anything related to bass tutorials on UA-cam before and still this pops up in my recommend feed.
Anyway nice vid bro
Wow, that's quite something to be honest. The UA-cam Gods blessed me it seems. Thank you very much though!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Damn, a classic right here man. Props to you on doing a well done cover here. Does real justice I believe.
Chas Chandler really knew what he was doing when he wrote the bass parts to this song. RIP TO HIM.
Such an epic song. Simple perfect baseline.
There's SUCH an easier way of doing it
Every beginner bass player: What an easy song...
Then at 4:24: Oh...what? (Repeat)
Oh yeah! A nice surprise ending
Not that hard actually
Yeah when I was first playing it threw me off so hard lmao
Was easy
You just expect it to trail off gently and then it’s like “Surprise Rumble-lover”
A great tutorial to follow along with for a beginner such as myself, thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
This guy started my guitar life
No way!
Thank you so much for creating this!! I am just starting to play bass and this was in my reccomends, this was very helpful!!
Glad to hear! Good luck with jour bass journey :)
im a complete beginner just started yesterday and i was vibing at 0.5 playback until the end 😟really cool vid tho, im glad i found you
You can do this!
Nice video, thanx for making it, sweet bass too bro. I am a retired professional drummer of close to 40 years and at 57, and after 20+ surgeries mostly on both feet and lower back (and each thumb) I bought a bass. A cheapy, then swapped out the tuners, bridge, strings, knobs...everything but the electronics, but I will soon. My plucking hand (right) is kickin' butt only after a couple months but it's my fretting hand (the ugly stepchild...) that is road blocking me, so I appreciate videos like this one. 🙏🎸❤ Got some drum videos up (of course) and one bass video, super easy tune played all wrong, but it's a start!!
A pleasure! And trust me, keep playing the song and just like drumming, it will be muscle memory before you know it. If you can play every day, it'll really benefit your overal playing. Good luck!
I play along with this at the start of every practice session. Your tabs are nothing like the other tabs I see online but I think your choices are better.
thank you so much!! this is the first song i'm learning on bass, it's coming along better than i thought. i'm so excited to keep learning ^^
You can do this!
thanks! this is my first time playing an instrument, and it's shaping up to be a lot of fun
Evem though im not a bass player, watching your videos make me want to become one
Thanks a lot for this, I just recently started to learn Bass. Love this tutorial.
No problem! Have fun playing bass :)
Thank you soo much! I love this song and I'm learning it on my Danelectro Longhorn. Your playing is just perfect and great to learn from! 🎉
Thanks a lot! I'm happy to hear that my cover is helpful to you :)
0-3-5 and played with a pick? wow. That's indeed impressive, I must say.
I guess that was quite something for the bassist back in 1964..
@@LeoBassCovers2 yeah I guess I know what you mean. I was just sharing my first impressions. Don't take it too serious :)
All good. Kinda hard not to take it serious when I suddenly get like 20 comments about how I played this with a pick while it was originally played with a pick lol
@@LeoBassCovers2 but your technique is totally awful and looks painful :(
@@angelnobody7137 Well, it never hurts for me.
Great Bass Playing! 😎
Great version of this song
I think that at 4:26 min the note N ° 6 could be removed and in the part of the note N ° 4 it could be lengthened with a double 4. I tried it and well, I think I liked how it sounded. It is not to criticize, in fact I really liked the video, thanks to you, I was able to learn the theme on my bass and I wanted to try it
Oh it definitely could be. It's quite a weird chord and it really is not easy to hear what he played there. I think most ascends are fine there as long as it ends with the 7th fret since it's a build-up. I'm just glad that I included the outro cause a lot of people sort of like end it with a fade.
Thank you :)
nice choice for a classic song 🙂
hell yes! love this song
thank you so much for doing that, just starting to learn bass, and it helps a great lot!!! thanks thankssss
No problem!
How is the base learning coming along?
Thanks for doing these tutorials. They are really helpful for a new bass player.
One comment though... I'm pretty sure that this song should be in 6/8 time and not 3/4 time.
No problem! And yeah, you're right. Should be 6/8.
I'm pretty sure most songs used the common signature of 4/4 (not to get folks confused with April 4th)
Absolutely outstanding.
Thanks a lot!
Very nice played, thank you for sharing
No problem :)
4:28 be like finally I can get this s**t out of my hands.
Very true! Get that sweaty pick out of here!
First song I learned on a six string so nice to see it on bass. Eric is the best blues singer we ever had, apart from Joe Cocker.
Really nice cover, thank you!
Thank you very much!
Cómo adoro el bajo siento que va más allá de lo acústico lo puedo sentir
Is it possible to just get the tabs from this? I can't these exact tabs anywhere on the internet for this song
That's because I made this tab. You can find my email-address on the "about" page of this channel. Shoot me a message and I'll get you this tab :)
That bass actually sounds beautiful
Nice to see this classic on your channel dude.
Whaaaaat?!?!? This isn't prog metal ahahaha great job as always!
Can't always have prog on here. Thank you!

Best Song To Play For Bass Beginners.
I'd say so!
sounds really soothing
played with passion
this song will still be a banger on its hundredth birthday in like 2063
thanks god bless you
Very cool, thanks!!!
No problem! :)
it’s funny cause i was playing through the video and that ending just randomly came and i was like how am i gonna do that
You can do it though!
Great tab! Funny how this could be in 3/4 (6/8) or in 2/4 with triplets and it's the same thing haha. Keep it up! :)
Bedankt :)
Que baixada linda de se ver e ouvir!
man i really wished i could play bass, this is awesome
Thank you! You could pick up the bass :)
My dad woke up to this at 4 in the morning today he recognized it emedintly

To be that accurate a pick is the way to go
Thank you
A pleasure :)

thanks, my next song to learn
Good luck and have fun with it!
@@LeoBassCovers2 That was the first song I learned on the guitar, but this will be the second song for me on the bass. I'll check out your Pateron site soon.
Nice warwick bass
That's one righteous Warwick brother. I hope to get one but I have 6 bases already and my wife is gonna kill me soon .

muito daora moço, aprendi rapidinho como toca
Great song for beginers like me thanks :)
No problem!
Thansks for that great cover from france Good job bye
Merci beaucoup :)
as much as i like the guitar riff for this song, the bass track very much carries it
Disagree. The vox is what carries this song
@@jimbomcclaren2105nuh uh the gutair riff is
Great cover,must learn this one👍
You should!
Hi Leo,check out my bass covers,Andy Jefford, hope you like them, thankyou
It's like the most easiest song to play on bass, but sometimes when he hits the E note, he picks on the 3rd string 2nd fret
Awesome 😎
Good stuff.
Большое спасибо
Wow ! Feels so.. so..bass matters
Bass always matters!
Very good
Thanks!
I'm completely blown away with this channel. Great work!! What kind of bass are you playing? Spector maybe? I can't tell. Thanks
Thank you very much! It's a Warwick (german import) GPS Corvette 5A :)
Cool
👍bravissimo ben fatto
Everything else on this song is easy-peesy, although the line at 4:24 is hard to get by, any tips?
Keep practicing and try to slow down the video so really get it down. You can do it :)
You Rock.
Thank you!
Just became a patron, thanks for all your work! (if you could do anything from "The Sword" I would go insane with happiness"
Thank you so much man! I responded to your request on Patreon :)
Good good😍😍😍😍😍
Surprising how this got more popular than his Tool covers
Meh, not really. Think ab how many people know and listen to this song on a daily basis compared to Tool. Also this is a good tutorial song for beginner bassists, so overall more people prob looking it up in the search bars. However I think Leo should get a lot more views and credit because accurate tabs aren’t always the easiest to come by, especially on all the cool songs he plays, so props to his whole channel
I would have to agree there. Tool is big, but they won't beat such classics. For me it's weird that this blew up since I just felt like covering a song that I listen to that isn't prog. But that joke upload turned into the most viewed video on the channel..
@@LeoBassCovers2 Well, in any case, I just wanna say congrats because wow, I can hardly stomach that view count
Thanks :)
Got practically all over it apart from the mad change overs at the end but I’ll work on it. Please can you recommend around 10 songs for a complete beginner just starting out? I can already play white stripes seven nation army 😅
Man! Starting to bass, and hearing you bass. Makes me want this so bad!! Waiting for my paycheck.. meanwhile playing a 5 base bass.. with a string removed xD.. And not even a amp.. But! next week I`ll have my Rumble 25 :)
Hey nothing wrong with a B-less 5 string! I even recorded some videos like that haha
Patience :D
@@LeoBassCovers2 Hey! I`ll search for them :) Thanks for answering! And have a great weekend :D
It was with that blue/green ESP bass. Have a great weekend yourself! :)
@@LeoBassCovers2 Yes I`ve found it! What would your most important tips be starting of? Patience I guess, which I do have.

Ehhhh alguien aquí que hable español solo una cosa gracias por ese tutorial por fin podré aserla
Not a difficult song, but it has always been a fun one to play.
All that matters really
thank youuuu
No problem :)
For anyone who was confused like me, it's a bass with 5 strings.
And there's even basses with 6/8/12 strings..
Wait I dont get it
@@owlsowa9893 Usually bass guitars have 4 strings and I was trying to play this song on one of those. But I got confused cause it didn't sound the same and then realised that the bass he is playing has 5 strings and not 4.
@@funkyalmedina8950 i know the first part Im bassist myself second was all i needed
So a guitar
how do i play the end? 😭
...why youtube recommended this to me ? Any way nice video !!!
I have no idea!
👍
Nice bass also
Thanks!
Is that a Vester Clipper Bass? Looks suspiciously like the one I am holding right now while playing to your video. Totally like that bass.
It's a Warwick GPS Corvette 5A Ash :)
@@LeoBassCovers2 Wow. Yeah inded if you know the actual bass and google it, you can spot more of the differences. But mine is 10 times cheaper, and since I'm not a bass player just a guy who had been donated a bass 25 years ago who is now going to learn to play it, I'm still very happy with mine. Especially since they sound quite comparable. But still - gratulations for owning the Warwick.
Thanks lol. The Warwick is cool and all, but it is super heavy. Unless you have the cheapest bass in the world. most of the tone is in the fingers
ohuenno!zaebis!!!
Could you by chance do Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth)?
I haven't found any good tabs so far, so it would be cool to see you do it.
thehypeman look at Andriy Vasylenkos tab it’s really helpful
Love that 5 string!! Is it a squir? Ibanez?
Thanks! It's a Warwick Corvette :)
Could someone help me out over here..im not a bass player so im playing this on my electric guitar and used some hacks to make it sound like a bass guitar..the thing i needed help with was how did he play the last part..i tried muting it and playing but it doesnt sound as how it sounds in the video..cld someone please help out over here 🥺
Those last notes are definitely muted notes on bass so it sounds quite different combined with this punchy trebly bass tone. I remember choosing a very specific pick for this song which gave it that edge that other picks didn't.
@@LeoBassCovers2 Thank you so much..i have a thin pick so thats the reason it sounds different..and again thanks for helping me out..😀
No problem!
Can you do half light porcupine tree pls
Isso e bom de mais valeu
