I remember back when Belcarra came out I saw their bio and they described themselves as Spooky scary but also artsy fartsy. They definitely still hold to that. Love it
I love it when there is an electronic beat under a guitar-heavy song. Not only used selectively as an effect but constantly to create atmosphere and mood. The song is really awesome dude.
I used this song to try to get my wife into listening to some harsh vocals. She was a HUGE Shirley Manson fan when we were younger. I played this for her yesterday and she loved it. Spiritbox has and obviously is going to continue 'crossing over' and getting so many new people into heavy music. Just awesome.
I'm glad that people are referring to Garbage when talking about the vibe that this track has. Garbage was one of my favorite bands growing up in the 90's so it's cool to see that people are giving them some recognition still.
Man this takes me back to listening to Celldweller over 10 years ago. Great mix of genres! Thanks for introducing me to Spiritbox, will definitely check out more of their work.
I always thought their experimental stuff was their best, not that anything they do isn't incredible. But when they go for a highly unique sound, they always pull it off flawlessly. The Mara Effect, this, the entire Singles Collection EP; they're just the masters of weird, proggy, electronic metal.
Thank you for pointing out how different each Spiritbox song is. Courtney said herself that they're training the fans to not expect them to do the same song over & over again. When you have a VERY diverse musical palette like they do, you really can't put them in a box. Especially when they're thinking so fucking far outside of the damn box to begin with!🤣🤘🏿❤️🔥🙏🏾
When i first heard this song my first 2 thoughts were holy shit this song is awesome and i so can't wait to see Tanks reaction to it Spiritbox doesn't ever disappoint and neither does Tank
@@rotru4977 Funny you mention Belcarra since it's the first time we get to see Courtney grooving out since... Belcarra. Her tone on that song is top tier.
I’m all for more of this from Spiritbox, it’s apparent that they can run with anything and make it sound good. You should definitely do a Basic Ass Reaction to Hysteria though because that song fucks harder than the Supreme Court to basic human rights hahaha
@@TankTheTech Not a bad choice, all 3 are super catchy and I love the production across them. I really wanna see what Zev can do with a full album of work.
@@TankTheTech If I remember correctly, when Courtney went on The Downbeat with Craig Reynolds, she said all the drums for the album were programmed since they had been sitting on the material for so long, though I’m sure Zev was definitely apart of their touring around then as well. @@TankTheTech 4:00-7:00 in the episode Courtney explains that they programmed the drums due to a deadline, and trying to make it work with Zev in another country just wasn’t gonna work. She also jokingly says to Craig that he might hate the band because “the drums are all fake” hahaha.
I absolutely love this song. Massive fan of Spiritbox, and for me they never disappoint. I am also a massive Garbage fan, and used to listen to them all the time. Two of their best, and well known songs being "Only happy when it rains" and " I think I'm Paranoid". Yes you can hear the similar sound to Garbage throughout the song, but that is no way a bad thing. "Roto Scope" is definitely one of my favourite Spiritbox songs. Awesome reaction video Tank.
When I first heard this song I thought " I fucking love how they just do whatever the fuck they want." But after I re listened to Eternal Blue, this song (and the rest of the single release) actually really makes sense with the rest of the sound they've established lately. LOVE IT.
Dude, I love you. Besides all the insanely insightful comments you have, just witnessing you tear up made me relive my initial happiness when I first listened to Rotoscope. Thanks for this gift, keep it up brother! You are so sincere, it gives me hope for all of the internet to achive this!
I know one of the band members and became friends with one of them. They told me they where in a band but I never knew how big they where until I started checking out the videos and people doing reviews and reactions of them. In my brain I only associate them in their every day.
It's always wonderful to hear different styles in different segments of a song. The contrast between more melodic, and heavy sections in any given song, simultaneously create tension and easement, which to many listeners, and musicians themselves, make the heavy sections hit even harder. It's brilliant songwriting and structure. This band is very good at creating an atmosphere of order, and chaos in the same composition. One of the best bands out there right now.
Lol I fully agree, the whole vibe is incredible, that groove is just insane and the vocals are absolutely pitch perfect. This little EP they released is brilliant but this is a standout tbf.
Personally I loved this EP. It just feels like they wanted to experiment with a new sound for fun and so they did cause why not. Its definitely one of my favorite spiritbox songs, the weirder they are the better they are lol.
This song is sooo good. One of my favorites from Spiritbox thus far. Mike's pick scrapes send me every time I listen lol. Great reaction as always, Tank.
Fun fact: at the Cleveland meet and greet a few weeks ago Courtney said it was inspired by Hella Good by No Doubt which is why they’ve been covering it on tour
Seeing them coming up in Asheville in a few months on the Ghost tour and can't wait! I had never heard of them until a few months back and now I'm hooked for sure.
I agree Tank, this and the other singles with it might be my favorite stuff from em, songwriting is masterful in this track, so excited for their future!
This is my favorite reaction video for this song. I love that you had the enthusiasm I had watching it the first time. Totally made the workout playlist immediately
I always just thought me tearing up at new songs and older more important songs was just a me thing. SO GLAD to see someone else get's that emotion with music.
Awesome Review, Tank! I can't get enough of Spiritbox and the freshness they're bringing to the game. It's like they are doing Spiritbox, experimenting, evolving, all while throwing a tribute to some earlier styles. This is a bouncer/banger. LEEEEEEET'S 💪 GOOOO 💪!!!
Love that you teared up. Spiritboxs music always makes me tear up even when it's not sad it's just put together so well it hits and it's like emotion overload!
I hear you🤘This one removed the mara effect pt. 2 from a very longlasting and comfortable pole position on my personal hitlist. Heavy and yet effortless, a rare and magnificent combination. Keep up the good work! Greetings from Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany
To be honest, I was trying to ignore this song completely until I saw you reacting to it... so worth the wait. Holy shit I love this band and enjoy your reactions almost too much. FYI Zev is a boss on the drums 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I'm with you all the way. I love how you get emotionally invested in the music that moves you. That's exactly why these incredible artists/bands do what they do. Absolutely love the reactions! Keep em coming! Also wondering if you're going to see Orbit Culture when they come around with In Flames here in the coming months? Happy 4th, brother!
Being from Canada and seeing a metalcore band tear it up and just consistently make amazing music like Spritibox does is so cool!! All 3 songs were amazing and are on repeat constantly for me They are easily one of or if not my fav band for sure! Loved your reaction Tank as always and loved hearing more about Aristedes too! I don't know shit about gear of any sort which is probably why I find your gear talk so fascinating! Hope you're doing well and can't wait to check out another of your reactions!
Also touring with Lamb of God and Killswitch Engage. Looked for the Ghost dates and they're not coming to Seattle but Spiritbox still is! Now to figure out how to get the time off oof work to be able to go :/
My wife and I listened to it together, we immediately thought it sounded like early 2000s nine inch nails and korn came together. Loving it! We're going to be driving from Nashville to Asheville to see them w/ Ghost/Mastodon!
I love Spiritbox, and I love the album Eternal Blue. That album is going to be my go to recommendation if someone asks me for suggestions to get into metal. The variety this band has is just great and the main thing I love about them. Going from Holy Roller to Secret Garden and then to this is such a treat.
Do I dance? Do I rave? Do I destroy stuff? I just listened to this song, somehow I missed your reaction, so I'm watching it now. It makes me want to just do everything you said.

Man the first heard this I had nearly the same reaction lol was sitting around the island in the kitchen banging tunes through our surround sound and this song had me grooving then wanting to headbang lol such a catchy tune and I think it's going to kill it in a live setting. the transitions from groove to breakdown tones are so abrupt but so perfect as well. my humble opinion. Smashed that like button.
Never heard them before this and yeah, the first thing it came to my mind is "This is a heavier Garbage", and that's not a bad thing AT ALL! This is quite amazing actually!!
Yes!! First time I heard this, it became my favorite Spiritbox song. Some reactors are mixed about this one but I’m with Tank on this one. Courtney’s cleans over the heavy instrumentals? To die for. And her screams are sprinkled in rather than being the focus, which is just my taste preference. But this is my jam!
Fantastic video man! Love seeing you so excited and fired up. Such a good song. Love how Spiritbox has the flexibility to put out songs like Holy Roller and this, and it all still sounds authentically like Spiritbox.
I really like that their music has a lot of variety, courtney is an excellent vocalist cause she can do the clean singing and the brutal screaming perfectly. The first song I heard was sun killer, which randomly came on while I was listening to spotify, and I really liked it so I checked out their most popular songs and I heard circle with me which is just great; but then I heard holly roller and I was blown away. But I agree with you tank rotoscope is easily one of their best songs.
I wonder if you know that there is a music video for their song Hurt You. But you should definitely do a Basic Ass reaction to Hysteria and Sew Me Up. Also I love the industrial sound of this. I definitely hear NIN and Powerman 5000
It never gets old watching Tank tear up and lose his mind over a new song. Thank you Spiritbox for turning Tank up to 11.

That's what I thought too.
Dude, early Celldweller stuff is still to this day some of my favorite music.
Oh yeah! When she started screaming it remembered instantly of Celldweller... I have to check new content from him.
One of the things I love about metal is that you can rarely judge a band by their biggest hit. Spiritbox is a fine example.
I always thought their experimental stuff was their best, not that anything they do isn't incredible. But when they go for a highly unique sound, they always pull it off flawlessly. The Mara Effect, this, the entire Singles Collection EP; they're just the masters of weird, proggy, electronic metal.
And this is why I love spiritbox. They make everything sound amazing. Then having Tank along with it makes the first time listen so much better.

Very much 90:s Garbage, it's nothing I have been listening to since then but it was still instantly recognizable.
