    Many years ago I had a friend that moved into a new house. There was a wood stove in the house with the pipe going out the wall similar to yours. When ever it got real cold like it is now all that pipe outside would cool off and the smoke would quit rising. He ended up putting double wall pipe to the ceiling and then used insulated Excel stove pipe through attic and he never had that problem again.

    • @FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska

      With a pitch of our roof it’s so nice having that clean out T outside. And with the combustor system and bypass the smoke that goes up the chimney is never really hot anyways. Double whammy. Ha! Actually, we love this stove and the set up and I don’t think we’d do it any different. We ran it for four years this way and this is the first time we had this issue. Glad we got it all figured out though it’s gonna be cold around here. 😊

    Good Day !!! Nice job & you make it look so fun. Question why do you not have damper above stove in chimney pipe ??? Just curios. I have a Columbia II Drolet , Canadian made stove with vent underneath & I installed damper for safety to help shut down the fire if need be.

    • @FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska
      @FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska  8 місяців тому

      Hey friend, if you check the other comment, I responded to explained about why we don’t have a damper. But this stove has a bypass inside the stove. The bypass shuts down the flow up the chimney and allows the the catalytic combustor to reburn the smoke inside the firebox to create a more efficient and longer burn. When the combustor is engaged, the smoke going up the chimney actually isn’t even hot. The stove can hold a burn with one load of wood for up to 30 hours because of the catalytic converter system. Pretty cool. We find that for Alaska’s temperature is 30 hours is a reach. The stove will definitely burn for 30 hours. But keeping the house warm and -30 for 30 hours on one load of wood…. not so much. Ha! Still, definitely significantly longer than a stove without a combustor. 😊

    • @FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska
      @FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska  8 місяців тому

      Ha! Yep. It went back. 😊 since we have a metal roof, I think we’re gonna just take the Barker arrestor off the cap this spring. Still a little bit undecided in four years of having the same system. We’ve never had this issue until this year. That’s why we’re pretty sure most of it was that the stove pipe wasn’t seated. The cap is always part of of normal life issues here. Ha! But this time we had extra bonus issues. Ha! 😊

      @FlatTireFarmHomesteadingAlaska  8 місяців тому +1

      Hey friend. The damper is not recommended for the catalytic combustor bypass system for this blaze king. I think we find our biggest issue to be that the creosote builds up above the spark arrestor. And that build up blocks the outlet at the top of the cap where we can’t clean it with without getting on the roof. And that just can’t happen in the winter time. Well… Not unless we want to live. Ha! Be blessed friend. It’s working great now. Whoop!

When I was 16 we had a volcano that erupted here, and I was riding my bike and had to ride 6 miles home, breathing in the volcanic ash. The ash particles are like a little glass shards. And that compromised my lungs a little bit. I’ve worked with children for the last 20 years so I have the immune system of an ox. Ha! I barely ever get sick. But when I do it settles in my lungs for a while. This time it just kinda got the best of me. Burning the candle at both ends too much. Ha!

    I don’t think it’s a good idea too put all that stuff, so close, around that Hot Pipe……. That makes me nervous!

      The pipe is double walled there. Doesn’t even get warm. 😊 thats why it can go through the wall and be safe too. Thanks for thinking about us. We’ve lived with wood-stoves since we were little kids.
      Number one rule is always… don’t burn yourself down. Ha!

    Annnddd... it's Mr Reeve for the win!! 😂 Unless you hid the evidence, that was a lot less messy than I was expecting it to be! I'm sure glad you got it up & running again. (Without benefit of parkas!)
    I agree with one of the other comments that if you were to give us the soup recipe, it would be great! (ESPECIALLY since there's been very little PROOF of sufficient cookie distribution to date) I mean, he even pointed out that it was easier for him to slip behind the stove... that can only mean 1 thing. 🥹 Oh yeah & maybe share a couple of recipes for his favorite cookies. It would be like a Miss Chrystal PSA. You'd be helping the rest of us reward OUR knights in shining armor when they rescue the situation! ♥️😎
    Stay warm you guys. Fun video (for us anyway) 😉

      I wish I was fancy enough to have my own cookie recipes. We just get out the 1984 Betty Crocker book and go at it. Ha! I posted the “ recipe” in the community posts. Ha! Love you lady. 😊
