Yes, they can be a challenge, tho the Phalaenopsis, which is what these mainly are, are the easiest to care for. They don't want to be overwatered and a monthly 'spritz' of water makes them happy.
IT depends on the area. As the Cape is made up of little towns and villages, some are more inclined to Summer houses whilst others have more year round. I also think all the towns have at least a few 'summer houses' which are often used sometimes at Holidays as well (Thanksgiving, Christmas). IT's a good mix I think.
