Droog is doing just fine in his lane. Like Griselda, he knows his market and craft and has the respect of his peers. Everything else is extra. Success doesn't always equal mainstream appeal and (multi)platinum sales
Biting being permissible is the wackest thing to ever happen to HipHop. I can't help but think that if we would have kept the adequate cultural fence AROUND our culture, then we wouldn't be running into these issues in these contemporary times.@TYBO-xl1xz

You've posted some questionable profiles recently. This is another one. Droog isn't stunted. There are plenty of other artists who are. Time to dig a little deeper.
If youre too talented...that can work against you in hip hop. People want dumb ignorant stupid rap like sexy red, gunna, moneybagg yo , anyone who does drill, glorilla, etc. Droog is just too dope for what he does. Same with Phonte from little brother. You're too good at your craft.
You got Hip Hop vs Rap completely backwards. Droog is dope, has been for a decade, and just dropped another dope project 2 weeks ago. His growth isn’t “stunted” at all. Many of the illest emcees never make it “mainstream” the last 20 yrs especially
He released an incredible album just last week called "movie". This is so far my favorite album of the year. I wish he got more recognition and love in general.
I disagree with this stunted growth. Just because Droog isn't a mainstream artist, that doesn't mean he's less successful. Not everyone wants to be a Drake-level artist. As long as you have a fanbase that pops out for your music, shows, merch, etc. To me, that's successful. Droog is dope, imo. He just released "Movie"
Droog is 🔥🔥 fire! He doesn't need the mainstream. I never really felt that he sounded like Nas except for his voice .too me Droog is the best right now
Ppl overhype the similarities between Droog and Nas. Your Old Droog has a SLIGHTLY similar vocal tone to Nas, and the similarities end there. He doesn’t have Nas’s vocabulary, he flows differently than Nas, and he doesn’t attempt Nas’s super high concept songs. He operates In his own lane. He’s no Nas and he ain’t trying to be. But ppl keep trying to pump that.
@@coffgunn1005 there’s the voice and then there’s how you use it. They don’t enunciate their words the same way, they phrase things very differently. Their inflections are different. I may have to disagree with this one, Your Old Droog is a great artist, I listened to his new album Movies and it was good I think he should stay where he's at because mainstream isn't it in my opinion, especially for a great artist like him he'll always have die hard fans no matter what.
Me and you have opposite outlooks on rap and hip hop. Hip hop is the culture. Rap is the art of putting rhyming words together. Anybody can rap, but not every artist is for the culture. Like KRS ONE said, "Rap is what you do, hip hop is what you LIVE." Droog is hip hop to the core, and he can rap, he just doesn't rap about or like the things that appeal to the mainstream.
i never understood the “nas alter ego” he sounds like a different person i feel like action bronson sounds more like ghostface than YOD does Nas, but i rock with em all
If you don’t do Kurupt already I’m just gonna assume you’re Kurupt. Dude had the skills, surrounding talent, and backing to be a huge star. Relationships, beef, loyalties for better or worse got in the way of him being a bigger star. Now I want you to put it in incredible video form. 😂

It’s like when Shyne and Gorilla Black came out sounding like Biggie. It was cool in the beginning because we missed Biggie. But you can’t beat the real thing.
Been listening to rap for decades. Never heard of him. He didnt make it cause his raps sound generic. You must be running out of real stars that should've made it n now we're profiling wack rappers that paid to be the last track on a mixtape. Also....who the FUCK thought he was Nas?!?!?
When I heard his music on Sirius XM, I said "Dude sounds JUST like Nas!" I thought it was Nas, until I Shazam'd the song, and saw it was this guy. Isn't it too soon to call his growth stunted? He just got in the game

It came off as too gimmicky. Very good artist, but he should've stayed true fron the jump and dispelled all the rumors in the beginning.
One of the best at what he does. So why can't that translate to mainstream success? Does skill not matter anymore?
Nope!
Sounds too much like Nas and we already let Action Bronson get away with sounding like Ghost Face Killah
My guy, you completely have Hip Hop and Rap confused. Out here sounding like a complete tourist in this culture.

Interesting. I see Rap & Hip Hop in reverse. Anyone can rap (rhyme words) but everyone is not hip hop.
I agree. Rap is spitting rhymes but hip hop is a cultural thing that expands beyond music.
Agreed. Pop acts and R&B singers rap on some of their songs. That doesn't make that shit hip-hop.
