Mine started beeping and not showing up and it's never been dropped (Seagate Backup Plus 4gb). It's been sat on my desk since I bought it and never moved. It's well out of warranty so it looks like I may as well open it up and try this method. Pretty sure it's going to ruin the case in the process but if I can get the drive working again, it'll be worth the sacrifice.

My almost new Seagate external hard drive gets the beeping and doesn't show up. But it doesn't look like the one in your hand. It has a hard black case with no apparent way to get the case off. So, I guess I'm just stuck with a stuck HD head.

Some cases have a shock absorbing layer on the outside to help prevent damage when on the go. Perhaps your drive has something similar? Otherwise, you may consider sending the drive in if you have critical data.

How could I test the shock sensor in hard disk pcb

    • @indigosoftware9625
      @indigosoftware9625  4 місяці тому

To test the shock sensor on an HDD PCB:
Locate the Sensor: Identify the shock sensor on the HDD’s PCB (often near critical components).
Visual Inspection: Check for physical damage to the sensor.
Multimeter Test: Measure the resistance or continuity across the sensor's pins. Gently tap the drive and observe changes.
Oscilloscope (Optional): Use to detect voltage spikes when simulating shock.
Diagnostics: Use tools like S.M.A.R.T. monitoring or manufacturer diagnostics to check for shock-related errors.
If faulty, consider replacing the PCB but be aware of firmware dependencies.

My Seagate has an intermediate buzzing sound and will not connect, so I followed the instructions on this video and, the arm was all the way in so I carefully moved it all the way out, then put it back together. Unfortunately it is still doing the same thing. Does anyone know what the buzzing sound could be?

    • @indigosoftware9625
      @indigosoftware9625  Місяць тому +1

The buzzing sound from your Seagate hard drive likely indicates a hardware failure. Here are the most common causes and what you can do:
      1. Possible Causes of the Buzzing Sound
Stuck Spindle Motor: The motor that spins the platters is stuck or failing, preventing the drive from spinning up.
Head Parking Issue: The read/write heads may not be functioning properly or are stuck in the parking position.
Power Supply Issue: Insufficient power to the drive can cause buzzing or clicking sounds.
Physical Damage: Internal components, such as the platters or motor, may be damaged.
      2. Why Moving the Arm Didn’t Work
Manually adjusting the read/write arm can sometimes address alignment issues but won’t fix motor or spindle problems. The buzzing suggests a deeper mechanical failure.
      3. What You Can Do Next
      Check Power and Connection:
Ensure the USB cable and power adapter (if external) are functioning properly.
Test the drive on another computer or with a different cable.
      Use Data Recovery Software:
If the drive is detected but inaccessible, try software like Recuva, EaseUS Data Recovery, or Disk Drill to recover your data.
      Consult a Professional:
If the drive still buzzes and won’t connect, consult a professional data recovery service. They can repair or extract data using specialized equipment.
      Avoid Further Physical Interference:
Additional attempts to manually fix the drive could worsen the issue and make data recovery more difficult.
      When to Seek Help
If your data is critical, refrain from opening the drive again. Contact a data recovery service immediately. They can diagnose and address the mechanical failure without risking further damage.
Let me know if you need recommendations for data recovery tools or services! 😊

@indigosoftware9625 after I had posted here I took it apart again and went through the procedures in the video, this time I left it open and ran it. The arms immediately went to the inside of the platter when they started spinning, then would make a strange intermediate sound as the arms would click out and back in, all the while connected to my laptop, not once connecting or bring recognized. I think it's just shot as it's over a decade old

    • @indigosoftware9625
      @indigosoftware9625  2 місяці тому

Going to piggy back off of Austin's answer below, as he is correct!
If your hard drive is making noises and isn’t detected by your Xbox or lighting up, it could be a hardware issue, especially if it’s been dropped. Here are some steps you can try:
Check the USB Cable and Port:
Try a different USB cable and plug it into another USB port on the Xbox to see if it’s just a connection issue.
      Connect to a PC:
Plug the drive into a computer to see if it’s recognized there. If your computer detects it, you may be able to recover or reformat the drive.
      Power Cycle the Drive:
Disconnect the hard drive, wait 10 seconds, then reconnect it. Sometimes, this can reset it enough to start working.
      Listen for Clicking Sounds:
If you hear clicking or loud beeping, this often indicates a physical issue with the drive’s internal components. In this case, you’ll likely need professional data recovery.
      Check External Power:
If it’s an external drive that requires power, ensure the power adapter is plugged in securely and working properly.
If these steps don’t work, the hard drive may have suffered internal damage, and professional repair may be needed. Let me know if anything here works for you!

A clicking noise from a hard drive usually indicates a hardware issue. Here's what you can try:
Check Connections: Ensure all cables (power and data) are securely connected. Try using a different cable or port.
Test on Another System: Connect the drive to another computer to rule out software or port issues.
Run Diagnostic Tools: Use tools like CrystalDiskInfo or the manufacturer's diagnostic utility to check the drive's health.
Backup Data Immediately: If the drive is accessible, copy your important files as soon as possible. Clicking often signals impending failure.
Professional Repair: If none of the above works, consult a data recovery specialist. Avoid continued use to prevent further damage.

    Hi!! Great video 🙌
    I have a 2TB WD ELEMENTS BLACK USB 3.0 2.5 external drive?
The PC does not detect it on port 3.0, but on 2.0, on that port it appears fine in the device manager, in the disk manager it appears uninitialized and when initialized it says non-existent device.
When you connect it, the LED turns on, it makes 7 beeps and then. 3 beeps and then 3 more beeps and it stops. Will there be a solution?

    • @indigosoftware9625
      @indigosoftware9625  6 місяців тому +1

Here are some basic troubleshooting methods to try (outside of the video example)
      Check USB Port and Cable:
Use a different USB 3.0 port and a different cable to rule out port/cable issues.
      Power Supply:
Ensure the drive is getting enough power. Try connecting it to a powered USB hub.
      Try on Another PC:
Connect the drive to another computer to see if it's detected properly.
      Listen for Beeps:
The beep pattern (7 beeps, then 3 beeps twice) could indicate a hardware issue. Refer to the WD support documentation or contact WD support for specific beep codes.
      Check for Drive Errors:
Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:
      sh
      Copy code
      chkdsk /f /r X:
Replace X: with the drive letter if assigned.
      Disk Management:
If it appears uninitialized, right-click and choose Initialize Disk. If it fails, it might indicate a hardware fault.
      Use WD Diagnostic Tools:
Download and run WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics from the WD website to check the drive's health.
