@@Sephiyroth Yea they had licences to do so with those titles. Boot leg programs don't comply by licensing requirements, companies like Sony do. When you install an emulator like this and start downloading games those games are technically pirated.

Very cool. These AMD Jaguar chips run older games quite nicely even on thin clients that were never meant to do anything of the sort, it'd be interesting to see the difference the high performance memory setup makes for the PS4/Pro units.
It would be great if this were optimized, and be able to install to the internal storage. I don't really use my PS4 for gaming anymore, but I would totally repurpose it for emulation if it became a bit easier.
I definitely appreciate your content. I do wish that your videos would include an attempt at PS3 emulation on these machines. I understand that it is likely too demanding in most of the use cases shown, but as someone who wants an "all in one" emulation machine, it is something I would at least like to see attempted, even if it can't run the games.
That is definitely interesting, but I don't see myself ever doing that. I would rather play PS4 games on my PS4 and preserve it since I can run those emulators at better performance on my PCs. I still wouldn't blame one for booting Batocera on their PS4 especially if it becomes easier and more stable.
I remember trying emulation on my PS4 slim and man it was struggling on PS1 games. There's a reddit sub of people porting PS2 games and they work really well though.
Yeah same, but ps4 only good for exclusives. No point in anything else since pc can run it better but you should check out one of them Anerbic 405m handhelds. They are good with emulation and they are portable.
That's pretty great. Hopefully a more permanent solution will be coming in the not to near future. It'd be nice to make use of my retired PS4 for something like this. It'd also be really great if the fan speed could be controllable with something like this so you don't have to deal with a jet engine most of the time lol
To not repeat the process of jailbreak every time you restart the PS4 you might want to put it in "Rest mode" instead of Shut down. It will keep all the things in RAM

June 2024. I was able to run jb on a PS4 running 10.01 fw. Took a while and a bunch of failed attempts. But its working. Now looking forward to using batocera on it.
The Xbox One S/X and Series S/X seems a better platform for retrogaming. On the PS4 you have to reinstall the jailbreak on every reboot, using a pendrive. On the Xbox you need to enable the dev mode once and then you can switch from dev mode to retail mode with a simple restart, using the controller. Retail for official games, dev mode for emulation. The Xbox can emulate all the arcade and console games up to the PS2 and Xbox 360, upscaling them, using Retroarch and Xenia. Both the console can't play PS3 and Switch games. But if Retroarch will introduce a core for these console, then the Xbox X or Series X could run their games.

This only works with a Jailbroken PS4 on Firmware 9.0 or lower. For the majority of you, don't expect this to work at all until there are jailbreak for the higher firmware.

I would rather wait for an official image designed for the PS4 from the Batocera devs. I believe they have been looking into it. Whether or not we will see that happening for sure though who knows.
If your considering doing this , know that it's a ball ache if you don't have a Linux machine. You'll need *VirtuaBox* and an *Ubuntu 20.04 ISO* and a good tutorial on how to get them both running properly before you can get started.
Definetely, I would like to see a comparation of emulators (dolphin, etc) running on desktop ubuntu and on android. I'll stay tuned (subscribed, ringed the bell, etc) 😛
Lets talk about performance: CPU: 8C Jaguar @ 1.6Ghz = Way too slow for gaming. RAM: 8GB GDDR5 = Not bad, the best balance is the 2GB VRAM mode, that leaves 6GB for system RAM. GPU: GCN 2.0, 1152 shaders @ 800Mhz = Not bad, with the 2GB mode the performance is similar to a R7 370, this means that gaming at 720p would be fine even in modern games. Storage: i would go for an SSD, they are super cheap these days, 1TB SSD should do just fine. So the bottleneck on the PS4 its definitively the CPU, it holds back the linux gaming experience by a lot. However there is a way to improve CPU performance, OVERCLOKING, yes, 1.6Ghz its way too slow, this gives the CPU a multi core performance similar to a second gen i3. If the CPU could be overclocked to 3-4Ghz then the situation would change drastically, multi core would be on par with a second gen i5. With this performance u could run modern PC games on the PS4 at 720p with 30 or 60 FPS depending on the game. I have seen modded linux PS4 runing at 3.4Ghz on the internet, if this clock is stable and sustainable then PS4 linux could be a viable gaming experience in 2023. PS4 Pro has better CPU, 16nm instead of 28nm, so overclocking should be easier, also the GPU its the same GCN 2.0 but with 2304 shaders @ 911Mhz, much faster, it should be able to handle modern games at 1080p with 30 or 60 FPS depending on the game.

As someone who has been soft modding most of my consoles, Wii/U, 3DS, PSP, etc, I find it cool that you can emulate and hack PS4. But I question the longevity and worth when the series s runs PS2 and GameCube by downloading an app, not to mention will run the next 7 years of gaming...

Why are all your videos 60FPS? I can't open 1080p60 and 720p60 to my Raspberries. I have to watch your youtube of 480p otherwise I get nothing on my screen. When your videos start, my Raspberry Android TV freezes. How do I solve that problem?
Might as well buy a replacement shell and throw a mini PC inside, unless you want to use the PS4 too. If the issue is that the external drive is an eyesore, you could buy those tiny USB drives (e.g. SanDisk Ultra Fit) that barely sticks out.
@ETA PRIME - Have You ever checked how HDD performs vs SDD external drive for emulation on JB PS4? In both cases there is need of use external drive via USB but cost of 4TB HDD 7200rpm is the same like 1TB SSD. For Arcades and games up to ps1 I don't think it would be any difference but how about some bigger images like ps2, gamecube? And since it's linux - I wonder if wifi or bluetooth works? Can I use regular bt headphones?
I haven't been able to use my PS4 much lately mainly due to all my games being on PS+ and I'm too poor to continue buying it. I want to be able to emulate on this as well as use a free shop for JP or Preorder exclusive themes and games we used to have on my old PS4 before something happened and I lost it all. I'm on the newest firmware though so I'm worried I'm gonna have to wait a while to get it to run

Everytime you reboot the ps4 thats me out then, from experience its hit and miss to the console version as to how easy it goes not a game changer for me till that ps4 boots batocera default

Tried all kernels for Belize, the Batocera boots but BLUETOOTH and WIFI is not working, tried even overclocked 5.15 kernel , no change. I have PS4 Slim Belize and the image is not compatible

You can install linux on the internal HDD but I assume doing it with batocera is even more of a nightmare

no it does not you will have to Run the jailbreak process again after waking the ps4 from Rest mode.

Xbox series x is still my favorite way to play ps2 games now. I was using my jailbreak ps4 for ps2 emulation before series x.

Cemu runs a few games great too. RPCS3 can run a few also, I've seen games like Demon's Souls run full speed.

You can install any Linux on internal drive if it’s a FAT PS4, never managed to get Linux internal on Slim or Pro versions

Disc speed for emulation is irrelevant, anything made in the last 15 years is ok.

Hi, new suscriptor here 2024, I old school gamer, that left with PS2, didn't play PS3 and ps4. But I'm trying to get time backs lol. I have been told that PS2 games won't run smoothly on a jailbroken ps4. Is that true?
How much of a difference dose a PS4 pro and OG PS4 make. As I have a OG PS4 and never use the thing anymore its been untouched for over 3 years.

Tried all kernels for Belize, the Batocera boots but BLUETOOTH and WIFI is not working, tried even overclocked 5.15 kernel , no change. I have PS4 Slim Belize and the image is not compatible
