    I've made 3 of these now and I have to say, they are quite fun!! The pattern has given me more experience with making, using my own bias tape and it's not as difficult as I have imagined. I'm not a very fast sewer and if I could just eliminate my bone-head mistakes that cause me to waste time ripping out things and re-sewing, I could get one done in a day - including cutting out. Thank you for this pattern!

      Oooooh, 3 already??? That's AMAZING, Christine! I am so, so glad you are getting the practice in with the bias tape, I think it is one of those things that gets easier and easier with every time and then you won't even notice how it becomes a second nature. I was secretly hoping that this little dress will help people with practicing bias tape technique :)

    Maybe I'm a sewing whimp, but I printed out 4 pattern downloads. One download pattern piece for "Front" of dresse measured with and cut with seams specifications. One for "Back" piece measured and cut to added seam measurements. One for "Side Section" and one for the "Pockets". Now I can mass produce and not worry about cutting it wrong when I'm up in the middle of the night sewing. Thank-you for all your sewing guidance. What a blessing you are to the mission field. I'd like to think the world's a little better off because you're in it. Bless all you seamstresses out there sewing for missions and sewing for Jesus. May the Lord Bless you and keep .... make his face shine down upon you.... Amen!

    Oh, my gosh, Alisa! Thank you for this pattern! I've made 28 of them so far, and I think I'm addicted. I just love putting together fabrics and colors for these cutie-pie dresses. I've come up with a variation that I think the little girls will love: Cut two fronts and use different (complementary) fabrics for them. Also divide the sides down the middle and use the two different fabrics so that when she wears it, it will show all of one fabric. That way she has two dresses in one without making it reversible. Score! Thanks again for this wonderful, playful pattern.

      @catstitchstudio I'm trying so hard to picture what you are explaining but I just can't get it. Why cut 2 fronts in different fabrics if the dress isn't going to be reversible? My silly brain just can't get it. Are you using 2 fronts instead of having a back?

    • @catstitchstudio
      @catstitchstudio Місяць тому +1

      @@oodles_of_noodles.Hi, there. It's a different kind of reversible. It can be worn with either side facing front. Two dresses in one. Does that explain it?

      @@catstitchstudio Thank you!!! Yes, I understand now and that's a great idea for this beautiful dress. I can see little girls being really excited with their 2 in 1 dresses... their mothers too.

    Good morning Alisa! Once again, I have to thank you for this (and the other DAG patterns from years past) and the informative tutorials on each. At nearly 70 years old and sewing for more than 50 of those, I have learned/relearned skills that I never thought I could do. Making and using bias tape for binding and ties is no longer scary 🤣, I learned to use my gathering foot on the new serger I got from my husband this spring and while it took me 3 tries, I think I've mastered the art of patch pockets on the 2021 dress!!! This has been a fantastic month of sewing and I am sending Mari 12 dresses this week. Thank you, thank you, thank you for teaching an "old dog new tricks" in such an enjoyable way!!!!!🥰🥰

    I just made my first Dress a Girl dress from this pattern. I should have watched this video again before I started. I made the pockets go all the way to the bottom hem before attaching the ruffle. 🤦‍♀️ I think it will work though. I do have to move the label. I sewed it in the pocket, but it needs to be on the front, not the side. Thanks for this great pattern!

    I enjoy your channel so much. I sew for the older girls and would most appreciate a much larger version of this dress, with sleeves. Is there a chance that you could up size this pattern and add sleeves, please. I love this pattern but lack the skills to accomplish this. Perhaps this could be your 2024 contribution to Dress A Girl. I appreciate your giving your consideration to my request as well as all you have already done for this wonderful charity.

    • @oodles_of_noodles.
      @oodles_of_noodles. Місяць тому

      That's wonderful that you sew for the older girls, I'm hoping to do the same as time goes on too. I obviously can't speak for Alisa and I am new to her as well but she has mentioned a few times that she isn't a commercial pattern drafter which is why her patterns are always the size her little girl is currently in.
      Remember older girls although likely small framed have started to develop and may also want to dress for their age and not like the 5 year olds so this will influence the style and fit of the dresses we will need to make for them. Commercial patterns are really expensive here in Australia ( around $22 to $36 each ) but are currently on sale at Spotlight for 2 for $10 so I am purchasing a couple from there. If you search #projectdressagirl on UA-cam some of the other creators have patterns for the older girls as well as recommendations & links on where to get both free ones and good bought ones. I hope this helps a little.
      *Edit, I watched a lot more videos for this project yesterday and several creators stated that the older girls were trying to find things to tie around themselves for a makeshift belt to give the dress more shape so I am definitely going to take this into account for the girls aged 12 to 16 when looking at patterns for them.

    This makes me so happy! Can I please sent you some fabric for making dresses for this? I am too busy with life right now.

    Thank you Alisa…another adorable & generous pattern. I had a tip I do for the seam binding: I make it a little more wide and I fold it in half, I then attach doubled and then flip it over and top stitch. I just found it cuts steps down. Keep up the great work. Your baby girl is growing so much and is just as precious as you! Blessings & besitos 💋💋💨

      Hi Maddie! That is a good tip, I do it when I have my bias tape from very lightweight fabric, so that folding it in half does not create extra bulk :)

    Even though Sewing is very intimidating to me but I really love your videos! You're so talented in dress making. Can you please show me how to draft this dress pattern step by step on a paper? I've been trying to make a rose red dress and a hoody cape for my daughter, and I've drafted the top part 3 times, but still don't seem to get it quite right😅😢. Many thanks!❤

    Fantastic dresses. Alice said she would love a "big kid " version :) I may need to draft for her something similar :)

      Thank you! Do you have a simple A-line dress for her? If you do, then just separate the side panels and then the little pocket insert and ta-da! :)

    Just making a dress as well, so wanted to watch this again. So ~ right after you added the pocket to the side panel, and were holding it up, it struck me that it is shaped like a tree, and is kind of Christmas-y as well. Getting some inspiration!

    Thank you so much for the pattern, I love all the dresses you made, it's amazing that relatively simple design can be so gorgeous 😊👍

      Thanks so much 😊 I know this one isn't the most fashionable dress, but from what I see from my little one - they care much more about comfort AND bright colors, and twirling, too :) I hope girls will love it :) if you make it for yours - send me a picture :)

      @@ThoughtfulCreativity exactly, I think it's perfect, especially if one gets some pretty fabric. Usually if the design of the pattern is too busy, the fabric should be simple. Well, in my opinion anyway 😊👍
      I'll definitely sew this for the girls once I get some nice fabric. I don't have Facebook tho.

      Oh yes, I am with you on the fabric, if the fabric is busy and pattern is busy - you loose both :) oh, Instagram? :)

    Have some great fabrics to pull from my stash so am thrilled to get started with this project today. Would love to have information on how to grade this pattern for an older girl.

    All of your little dresses look cool, comfortable, and so beautiful. I was thinking that I would love to have a dress with pockets like those. Are you going to make one for yourself? It would make a wonderful jumper dress for winter made from heavier fabric in a solid color.
