YOU saved my day! I bought a slt 57 andim waiting for it now! I hav an NEX 5 N and was so affraid of what i saw compared to the NEX 5 N! I thought: Man it was a mistake because the SLT 57 has so much of noise in the videos i saw on youtube! But now i see, that if you set the iso than its totaly superb! Im glad i switched to SLT 57! Cant wait to arrive! Thanks!
did you see the new A58? it really sucks, image quality, noise, 5 fps vs 10(12 cropped) in A57, also A58 say it has more plastic and doesn't feel the same. Generally a lower quality than this. I'm happy I've got the A57
You re right about the location! If portability and lightness are your top priorities, then go for the nex. If you don't mind carrying a A57 + lens, I don't see why you ll choose the nex. There is a lot more high quality a mount lens and they are cheaper but in the same time a lot more heavy to carry.
Well, I've been using a the Nex-5K for about a year now, and it's a great camera for it's size, but the lack of view finder has finally caught up with me. I still have my Minolta lenses when I was using an A33. But the video on the a57/a65 looks fantastic!
Glad to hear it! If you set the iso, shutter speed, apperture and have a good low light lens like the 50mm 1,7.. I don't think you will see a big difference if you compare it to your 5N.
You can't go wrong with the t3i or a57 .I personally chose the Sony because I'm shooting a lot of my videos handheld and the internal stabilization was a must. Also the electronic viewfinder helps keeping the camera more stable.
For my needs, I'm satisfied with the lowlight performance in photography. If you want to see by yourself the results, take a look at the test that Dpreview made.
yes its true! I bought an Sony 35mm 1.8 and with setting the iso to 400 its outstanding! Even 800 is good sometimes! But at 200-400 Iso its superb! Great camera! And the 35 mm lens had cost me 280 Euros for the nex5n! And for the slt 57 i bought it for 130 Euro used! Its 3 mounths old and like new! And even better i get an polarisation filter with it too! So was a good deal! I wish i had this lens, back in times when ive recorded the dodge challenger.
The video on the a57/a65 is indeed really good but I'm still tempted going mirrorless for more portability. Price wize the a57 is unbeatable in his class.
Good video test! I own an A57 and testing out its features last week. I used P mode for video most time in daylight. So at night, in manual mode, what sppeed and aperture you use in the video? If set to P mode, will the video be darker? Less details?
I'm looking for a fast lens at 55mm but every lens that is fast(1.4-1.8) is just very expensive for what I need it for. I'm using the first and only lens I've got a sigma 18-250mm which is great for most of things (you don't have to chage lens in every shoting)
The Canon 5D MKII cost 3 times more than the Sony, so for the price of the Canon body only you can buy the Sony + some high quality lens (Sony DT 16-50 mm f/2,8 SSM, Sony 50mm f/1,4 and a good solid tripod) I ve never try doing lightning photography with my camera, but I'm sure it ll do well.
DSLR, SLT and basically every camera with changable lenses have big difference with different lens. So even the best camera out there with bad lens do much worse than the worse camera with best lens!

Looks like your in the Langelier area! Great video, I'm still debating on this or the Nex 5R
Yes, the Sony 50mm 1.8 is a great low light lens. You may also like the Sony 35mm 1.8 wich is a bit wider but more expensive.

Yes, it has a fully 100% automatic mode in stills.

No, I've used the Minolta AF 50mm 1,4 to be able to capture a maximum of light.
Good question. I don't remember and can't try because I've sold the camera.
do you think the sony sal 50mm 1.8 would performe like this?

Yes it is
It was shot in progressive 60p. I just forgot to turn off smart resampling in sony vegas.
Great video! When I adjust the settings in manual mode, then I start video, the manual settings are not set? Can you adjust settings during recording?

Y U not shot in progressive mode?
is this the kit lens?
how does the camera do for low light photography??
