I learned to play this song "All The Things You Are" in chord melody lately and I felt me like a master, but when I hear the Masters playing, I feel me humble again.
Jim Hall has long been my favorite jazz improvisor. Always unexpected, always tasteful, always serves the song, and always always musical in the extreme. No less a genius than any shred-master, he never used 17 notes when one - the exactly best one - would do.
The soft spoken gentleman with the killer chops. RIP JIm Hall. I got to see him in S.F. around 2007, memorable for his seemingly effortless musicality and swing.
UN DES SOMMET DES DUOS GUITARES ...Avec deux musiciens et guitaristes de surcroît .......une bien belle reprise sur la trame de "all the things you are"
I went to The Strand in NYC for a Q & A with Hall and a couple other jazz dinosaurs a couple summers ago. When I asked them what they thought of rock and roll, they laughed, looked down their collective noses and denigrated it -- in its totality. So I'm surprised that Hall (and he truly is a great player) would deign to appear with a younger long-hair like Pat (an even better player) who looks and sometimes plays like a -- gulp -- rock and roll guy!
I love this,I have the cd they did together its really great, I like metheny in this type of format(simple)I usualy get nauseous trying to listen to pat metheny group with all the horrible smooth jazz cliche, padded voices and overprocessed guitar tone,he really is a great guitar player who should dump all the cheese and just play, like he is doing here,, Jim Hall is a giant just wonderful playing here
@Izicanplay pretty sure the editing crew used the wrong segment for where the tune was at, Hall wasn't doing anything near what we were hearing! good eyes!
Live video of an improvisational performance especially, is prone to hiccups and problems of many kinds. If (as it appears) this was a one-camera shoot, the single camera had to make second-to-second decisions during the performance about where to point the camera. Most such vids, unless shot with astronomical budgets, cut together b-roll where footage is made to look simultaneous, but really wasn't. It's a forgivable, common practice to get most of what happened, IMO.
This makes life worth living.

We miss ya Jim - thanks for the music
Two of my favorite guitarists but Jim Hall is the most unpredictable guitarist, he just creates beauty in the moment when he improvises.
I love Pat's smile at the beginning when Jim is just nailing it. Glorious performance.
RIP Jim Hall. You are the best... You'll be missed.
Outstanding. Seeing two of the biggest guitar players playing is something from another world.
Incredible improvisation and tune!

adoro o pat ,tim max
Los maestros!
@Izicanplay pretty sure the editing crew used the wrong segment for where the tune was at, Hall wasn't doing anything near what we were hearing! good eyes!
great thx!
spetacule!
crazy !!
RIP
Looks 1080 i/p Hi Def ...Where can i buy a copy..or same old story not available as usual
Wow!!
Listen to how this swings in three.
Is that the great Ramsey Lewis giving props at the end? If it is, everyone on that stage is the real deal musically speaking!
Anything by Sir Pass, is very good haha. Same with Oscar Peterson, you can never go wrong with either of them!
Ok. First that was amazing. Second. What happened at 3:08-3:09???? I feel so strongly that there was editing. I mean Hall changed completely...ya see?
can you buy this by any chance? or another sorry not available ???
TOP LINE PLAYERS!!!
Il pezzo è "All the things you are"
in 3/4

What are they playing.. thought it was Django first then All the Things You Are
look like airgin ? Oo
It's All the things you are
Geez.
I need to go practice some more....
es all the things you are,,,
where I can find the Concert on DVD?
i don't suppose the bass & drummer have names?
It looks like they edited him in from another part to have the double shot of both of them.
I admire these gentelmen's skill and knowledge about music. Personaly, however, I couldn't enjoy this piece for longer than 10 minutes.
Dziuku94 Than you can play it twice back to back and still have a minute to spare!
mismos00 Haha, that's true. You got me ;)
oooo thats why i confused with bluessete for a little bit :)
this is much better than the smooth jazz metheny usually plays, much much better
In fact Metheny doesn't play smooth jazz
Pat's tunes seem simple, but just try playing them.
Hall is not in sync with the audio, so I guess its just bad video editing.. I do believe it was from the same take though.
Jim Hall is...Well,I realy don't know what to say...
kl
too bad pat doesnt give jim some of his hair!!
No offense to Pat, but would like to have heard more Jim.
That bass player...haaaa!
Those with real talent only need one pick up, one volume knob, and one tone knob.
Certainly does look like an edit.
Two milestones too closeto each other
