Dundalk Buses | August 2024

It has been nearly two years since the last visit to Dundalk ( • Dundalk Buses | Septem... ), and there have been a few changes since then. Under the Connecting Ireland programme, Dundalk has benefited with three new routes. Route 167 has always connected Dundalk with Ardee, but now approximately every third departure continues heading west to Mullingar. Route 170 provides a new connection between Dundalk and Cavan. Both of these routes are operated by Bus Eireann, and on the day of recording, an LF double-decker coach was being used on the 167. The third and final route is 171. This is a Local Link route between Dundalk and Shercock. Operated by Matthews, some of the departures are operated by an electric Higer Steed bus.
The Matthews coverage continues with some footage recorded for the first time at the Marshes Shopping Centre where routes 900 and 901 to Dublin depart from.
Finally two former Dublin Bus ALX400s appear on Halpenny Travel local routes. And in an example of how some things rarely change, Bus Eireann double-deckers VWD 1 and VWD 43 are seen on Dundalk town routes 174A and 174B, as they did on the last visit.
