This was super helpful! I'll definitely be implementing some of this into my current Discovery Calls and workflow! Great to see you making content again here on UA-cam!
Thank you Austen for information. As I see, not too much people are interested in this kind of education videos, but it's really necessary in the world of filmmaking - knowing the process of comunicating with clients. Very usefull. Sending love from Russia
My biggest concern I've had is about revisions. Clients often have no concept of time or complexity. Some revisions may take an hour or two and others may take a day or two. In the worst cases it can be a complete redo of layers of effect builds and compositing and in their minds, it's "one" revision. Wouldn't it make more sense to quality the revision in time such as "up to one day" for each revision? I've done this because I've actually been hit with a "revision" that borders on a reshoot especially when you're shooting with compositing in mind. I know of others in which a "revision" wound up being an additional week of post-production.
This is true I make sure in my contact that I’m clear what a revision is, it does not include reshooting, new scenes, and or adding in effects into the videos. Also when you are super clear with the pre production and have them sign off on it there should be less confusion in the end.
Wow, thank you for sharing these steps. Our process in graphic design work is quite similar to yours, and this video was a great confirmation that we're on the right track with our client journey. Cheers and keep creating awesome videos!!
My issue is that I find myself taking longer than I anticipated with a project because of failures. What is on average your turn around time for sending the V1?
This comes with experience but also you should be creating and designing concepts that are good but don't take a crazy amount of time to execute. Depends on the client but from 2 weeks to 3 weeks
