It's a shame the Daler's aren't available anymore because they look lovely. Daler Rowney has always made quite decent art supplies at a low price. Charles has since changed over to Lyra Rembrandts for watercolor pencil tutorials. It's unfortunate but there just aren't any truly good budget watercolor pencils, at least none I've been able to find. You really have to step up to get a good result. The good thing is you can mix them much more easily so you don't have to have a ton to start off with. It's best to pick colors from open stock though vs a 12 set which often don't have a proper set of mixing colors.. a cool and warm of each primary. Much better off with a limited selection you can work with.. nice earth tones if you like to color landscapes or animals, brights that get along with each other if you like florals, etc. The best low cost wc pencils I've found are the Mondeluz which are considered artist quality in their home country, but are very reasonably priced if you can find them in their original cardboard packaging. BTW you can also blend them with an alcohol blender, that is what I have changed to because it doesn't warp even thin paper and it won't bleed if you only activate them once. Also your Derwents are very old, they have changed them since then and they aren't quite as nice, just FYI. I still enjoy using them, and they are quite soft dry for a watercolor pencil which tend to be on the hard side.
@waymire01 I've even older Derwent Watercolour pencils than those, with grey paintwork, which were even better! Yes, it is a shame the Daler Rowney ones aren't made anymore as they did perform well, it was good to do a comparison and find that out for myself.
Well fancy that, who'd have thought that a Sky Blue pencil would be good for colouring Skies 🤣🤭 The Arrtx do look OK for the money but it looked like you needed quite a bit of water to dissolve the pigment, they were much better with the blender pen. xx
The pencils are now released on Amazon UK here amzn.to/3ZRE9jx

Lily, A PSA for you - Do not go into The Works. My branch had 120 water based markers half price at 20quid. 😂😂😂😂😂
Oh dear Amazon ....
@mewsli haha thanks for the heads up, I have more than enough waterbased markers so will avoid! 🥰
