I hope one day i will be in St. Petersburg to speak to the russian people as a brother. On the other hand, I have to crush your dreams about the german kindness a bit. I have met two russian germans when i was in hospital. They said they can hardly make any friends here and i totally believe them. Germans are super friendly on first sight. But honestly, when you get to know them closer.. :/ speaking of things like neighborhood deeds, helping each other out, being open about feelings.. it's not what it seems. But don't worry, i will clean this mess up and make it worth a russian friendship. Germanic and slavic countries need to be brothers and sisters. Much love from the north

I'm German and vegan... while traditional german cuisine is very meat-heavy, there is a lot of international cuisine in Germany as well which offers a lot more vegan and vegetarian options. For example, turkish restaurants often offer delicious falafel dishes which are vegan or atleast vegetarian.
Atleast among the young generation, there is also a largely growing number of vegans and vegetarians, and nowadays a wide variety of vegan substitute products is offered in supermarkets in Germany. Nowadays you can find a lot of vegan cheese, milk, yoghurt, sausages, patties etc. products in supermarkets that have gotten better and better over the years and are very delicious.
Actually, german + vegan is probably the combination that eats the highest amount of bread, because bread is usually vegan as long as you don't put something non-vegan on it lol.

Fun fact: some old dialects of German (like Pomeran and Hunskürsch) are still spoken in some regions of..... southern Brazil (where I am from). My family is half German and half Austrian; I learned a little Pomeran from my great grandfather, but after he died I had to content myself with learning Hochdeutsch...

The way you described Hauptschule is ... lets say euphemistic

    • @michaelt.5672
      @michaelt.5672 6 років тому +48

It's describing what the Hauptschule is supposed to do.
The idea behind the system is
Hauptschule - preparation for blue-collar work
Realschule - preparation for white-collar work
      Gymnasium - preparation for academia.
It worked relatively well at a time when all of these held respect.
But nowadays, parents dislike the idea of sending their child on a path that leads towards a life in manual labour.
Even if that would be the better option.
And while originally, the parents had to abide by the teachers recommendation,
nowadays they are free to ignore it and send their child to a school that doesn't suit them (at least that's how it is here in NRW).
It's quite telling that cases of children switching from Haupt- to Realschule or from Realschule to Gymnasium are an utter rarity compared to those switching schools in the other direction.

Rockyblack smith If it were determined by different kinds of skills rather than than general level of skill, the school would be determined by different tests rather than your grades. But i agree that too many parents send their kids to gymnasiun

      @@manuelreindl8500
The recommendation, to my knownledge, is up to the elementary school teacher's assesment.
So at least in theory, it's not based on grades, depending on how much the teacher in question incorporates them into their judgement.
But that leaves a lot of room for misjudgement of course.
I agree that it should be determined by some test(s) that indicate someone's predispositions.
And I'd put it after the 6th grade.
I myself was initially sent to Realschule based on the teacher's assesment, but after two years there, my parents were advised to send me to Gymnasium, and that worked out great for me.

I like most of all those mentioned aspects as they are here currently, though the one thing I hate is the very little flexibility you get in choosing your subjects (for the record I was on a Gymnasium in NRW), my school for example (private, though definitely rather catholic than elite) had me keep religion class and PE till the very end, and couldn't offer me a Physics class as a main. I have heard of many other people that are happier than I was but this is my actual experience
