  • Join Dr. John Straube as he dives into the anatomy and science behind rainscreen systems, and what a rainscreen system requires above all else to be effective. He also details how DELTA®-DRY’s unique application in these systems solves moisture problems in the most common wall types, especially absorbent claddings like stucco or manufactured stone.

I'd be curious how much moisture cement fiber cladding systems hold compared to LP Smartside. My intuition would be that the cement fiber will retain more moisture and be a bigger issue for the inward vapor drive.

have you graphed the difference between 2 layers of building paper and dimple mat in climate zone 3 hot-day? ie: southern california? thank you.

Just curious…would you consider 3/4” or 1” rough-sawn, unpainted pine vertical “barn” siding to be a “moisture storing cladding?
How about traditional Shou Sugi Ban vertical cypress?
In my climate zone (5) these are usually installed on wood furring over a vapor permeable air and water barrier. Presumably there would still be inward vapor drive.

Hi John great information.. I am about to do a job consisting of 2 in board insulation over OSB then wood firing strips on top of the insulation vinyl dutch lap siding on a north wall.. Would you mind giving me direction as to do a proper and long lasting install? Thanks ahead of time!!

If you put Delta Dry on the exterior, acting as a zero perm material and applied 6 mil poly on the interior wall, wouldn't, that trap moisture, in your wall cavity?

Hi David. Thanks for asking! While the DELTA®-DRY itself is impermeable to block solar-driven moisture, it is not installed as a continuous vapor barrier as the 6 mil poly would be. There is an air space between the DELTA®-DRY and the water-resistive barrier that both prevents it acting as a vapor barrier and provides critical drying energy by the venting moist air through ventilation gaps at the top and bottom of the wall.

@@coselladorken Thank you. Does Dorken Systems have a WRB (peel and stick) membrane, a perm rating of, between 7 to 10?
