- I went out on the boat to try a few new areas for tope fishing, but I really struggled to find mackerel for bait, but I managed to catch a lot of another species. I didn't know if this would work as bait, but it turned out to work quite well.

Hi There. I do a lot of tope fishing in County Donegal in Ireland. We catch tope up to 45lb. Your doing great fishing for the tope but I can give you one bit of information. When the tope picks the bait up and starts to run. Tighten the clutch up a bit and just bend into the fish, this will just set the hook in the corner of the fishes mouth with a good hook hold especially if you are using a circle hook, I find multiplier reels are better, but it's personal chose. I use a cox and rawle circle hook size 12/0. a really good strong hook and most important crush the barb, it's easy to unhook and friendly for the fish. But you seam to do it ok but those tips really work and its easy for you. So tight lines and good fishing. Oh another tip. When you get your fish in the boat, turn it on it's back, you will me amazed how calm they are. It's called Tomic immobility, Look it up on google. Enjoy your fishing.

Pollack are a popular bait where i am, anything really, dabs whiting, whatever is available.
Can i ask the rough depth you're fishing there?
All i hear for bait is mackerel, mackerel and mackerel so was surprised the pollack work. plenty around so happy days! Of course mate, the boat was anchored in around 90ft

Nice to see you back. Really liked the video as I enjoy a bit of Tope fishing every now and then. I found Whiting also make a reasonable Tope bait if you are ever stuck again for Mackerel. Good luck for next time.

Some suggestions. Get yourself a proper net. You’ll not grab a big girl by the tail. Put your reel into free spool when netting the fish and get the rod out of the holder with only the tip over the side of the boat.

My eyes are not what they used to be lad. What actually happened in the outtake?
Look on the right of the screen, the dan off my alderny ring floated past. Had to pull 300ft of anchor line in a 2knot current to go and retrieve it. You should have heard the language! Tight lines !

Eyup Nathan. International Rescue would like to know if you are available to pilot Thunderbird 4. It turns out Gordon Tracy is getting on a bit and has put his notice in. You'd have to provide your own uniform as Gordon is size v. small. They asked if you could manage Thunderbird 2 as well and when I told 'em you can reverse a boat trailer down a weedy ski slope with a lawnmower they said anyone that can do that can handle T2 no problem. Looking good for the tope competition there fella. I'll sithi after! Dave

Aye, that would have been fair, I think his missus was going to give him a hard enough time! The buoy that I use to lift the anchor cam off, so I had to pull in 300ft of anchor line by hand, retrieve the buoy and re-set everything. A ball ache! Tight lines!

Hope the knee wasn’t too painful; acl tear? I had similar issue a few years ago (footy when too old) and now swear by icing it, and anti-inflams like ibruprofen before and after a rock hop - oh, and a neo geo brace.

Fortunately just a meniscus tear, not as bad as an ACL but a slimmer chance of healing fully.
Going to stick to fishing and give up to getting fat.

Welcome back, you didn't say how you did your knee in - I'm guessing one of those scary looking climbs? Great watch as always but this one had a few extra elements - not least doing a rescue. I'll bet the yakker was relieved you didn't have the camera running. Good tip for you - have an extra set of gloves stored in the boat 😉
Sorry John, I'd mentioned on my Instagram but not on here- I did it in with some boring old trail running, nothing exciting. I did have the camera running, I always do, but decide not show any of it. Spare pair of gloves now permanently aboard the boat! Tight lines👍🎣

'Reason i've tried for tope is because i'm new to boating and this is a real selling point ...lets be honest.
Why not be honest? Your a rock fisherman whos learning the ropes of boating. Your not a boating fishermen born and bread. Side the ego and relax mate fs. From the first videos I watched yrs ago to now, its disrespectful and dishonest. Stop trying to act like a pro of the seas, you'll get there but its frustrating beyond belief hearing you talk about boating and marks but know shit about them. I support your vids but keep the wool from your eyes.
I'm sorry I've come across like that, Niall, it's not my intention. As you know, I've never professed at being an expert at any of my fishing, I normally just tell the camera/you guys what I'm doing at the time and the reasons behind it.
