I’ve only just started listening to him. Just love his voice idk how he could still sing like this at his older age. Too bad I’m too young to have seen him live
Yes sir you are 100 percent correct. He's coming back...and it won't be long either. People better get their hearts right with the Good Lord, I try and keep mine right!
Charlie and the Country Gentlemen were very instrumental in some of my families harmonies when performed bluegrass in the Northwest for over 30 years. My younger brother and I along with a close friend have started another bluegrass band and this is one of the songs we will be doing. The vocals even at Charlie's age are flawless the banjo, mandolin, upright bass and guitar shows amazing musicianship along with perfect harmony. Great job! This is what Bluegrass is all about.
Just a clarification here, guys, the Gents didn't write this song. It was written and first recorded by Canadian songwriter, Gordon Lightfoot. Many of his tunes are performed in bluegrass. He's a great lyricist and folk musician. Charlie's voice fits perfectly with Lightfoot's material as does Tony Rice's, too. It was sad to see Charlie so sick with cancer in this video. I miss his wonderful voice so much!
This definately a flatiron mandolin , looks and older one also but very well taken care of!! yes your right its a flat iron the best they make!! i seen one just like it one time has some very fine inlay work also!!
God created nature & all things there in. Oh how man has so taken from this earth out of greed. However, there will come a time, when The Lord returns man will no longer destroy our planet & the gifts God provides. Trees, air, animals & all things will have a mighty protector. There is NO mother nature but a loving almight God.
@manzrennug Don't forget...Charlie is very weak here. I doubt he lived much longer. The rest were not looking forward to a band without him. Sure...things were dim by this time..
@JimmyPagesSoloLover lighten up man i go to church to but nature is nature (nobody said god didn't make it. and mother nature i think is more of a metaphor or a saying than something god like)
@JimmyPagesSoloLover ... wow! you certainly must be one of those kooks that give Christians a bad name. NO mother nature???? what BIble to you read from Kook? or are you a member of Westboro Baptist Church that calls our soldiers names, think you would fit right in with them. I have an easy solution for you..... don't listen
Late in his career and his battle with illness Charlie Waller had to sit. What a wonderful sweet voice. He is missed.
One of the best bluegrass voices in history
Charlie Waller is the one who made me love bluegrass. I hope he's pickin and singin in Heaven and entertaining the angels.
I was soooooo super blessed in knowing Charlie personally, the last time I saw him was on July 24,2004 which was less than a month before his passing
I’ve only just started listening to him. Just love his voice idk how he could still sing like this at his older age. Too bad I’m too young to have seen him live

I have never heard any voice better than Charlies'. He made you feel evey word he was singing. He himself was a gift to Bluegrass music.

Can’t decide if I love this more than he original Gordon Lightfoot version.
That mandolin break would be more in place on a different planet.
I like your philosophy. It is true whether or not a person is religious.

I love this song. Does anyone know if he is playing a "Flatiron" mandolin?? The headstock sure looks like one. Charlie was a legend.
Wonderful song written by Gordon Lightfoot. Redwood Hill is on his 1971 Summer Side of Life album.
.I guess he knows what it's about.

I think if we could here God sing, his voice would sound just like Charlie Waller's.
Nobody beats Gordo's original vocals.....Nobody!
That is a dandy
Never a voice like Charlie
his son?
Just saw Charlie's grave in va
What town? Gordonsville?
Patti Fletcher yeah
Nice version of a Gordon Lightfoot classic!
does anybody know the true meaning of the story of this song????
@mcdaniel01
Bill Yates, who was with The Gentlemen for over 20 years, told me it was about a guy who was in love, who gone up to get away from it all.
Darin Aldridge was just a sprout back then
Not really for sure I figure its one of those songs that has a story deep deep deep inside but its still a great song.
My comment is the one below.
