I think that degenerate weapon spirit is the definitive reason why I wouldn't get Sacred 3. He was obnoxious and people like that is a part of why I don't enjoy online chat in games. While I could lower the voice volume, I don't have a problem with Aria, and my eyes will still pick up what he says as they often do in an instant for YoTube titles and comments.
I never played Sacred 3, as I ran low on income AND hardware. From those years, though: I prefer adventures & visual novels with RPG stats by now (like Choice of Games - VTM - Night Road, in example). 🤔
I played a lot of sacred 2 on Xbox 360. You can't imagine how happy I was when the last batch of backcompat games include sacred 2. It runs greatly on Series X and S
Yea, same for me. I was offten checking for it in past, and finally gave up hopes for it to come on my Xbox One, and then one day, i just saw it on sales in the Store ! I couldn,'t beleive it, and of course bought it immediatly.
I am playing it again now and it is still amazing. So much love put in that game. I am discovering stuff i have never seen before. Almost lvl 60 now. I wish they made another like Sacred 2.
Sacred 2 is still one of my favorite ARPGs, funny, action filled, great atmosphere, still pretty to look at. Also C4G, you should definitely check out Seven the days long gone :D
Loved Sacred 1 and played the hell out of 2 on both soft and hardcore (miss Sacred 2 the most and its community). I started playing D4 for the open world, but I have a lot of issues with that game's combat and business models.
True and based. If it was called something else that for the genre it was released in the game would have been a decent 10 hours coop brawling/action-adventure romp.
I was a long time fan of Sacred 1, as i played it with a friend for years starting when we were 11 or 12. I only played 2 for a bit as it nuked my old pc, but i might give it a shot again. 3 is not something that i would tie to any of the other games in the series. It is a shame it ended it.
Sacred 1 and 2 had some of the biggest open worlds for this type of games - and it was one of the best selling points of them. Going anywhere you want, exploring the entire map and finding easter eggs/quests in the corners of the map was amazing. I wonder who came up with the genius idea to turn the third one into this super-linear experience that no one asked for.. Sprinkled with the Torchlight-esque cartoony graphics/design on top that was also 180 turn from the fairly grim and realistic tone of the series prior. Still, here's hoping that some day this series gets a proper sequel with a huge open world and fun stuff to do/find in it.
While people were playing Diablo, I was playing and loving Sacred 1 & 2. I was shocked when I went to our local video game store and saw a “SACRED 3” box on the shelf! Didn’t even know they were making a Sacred 3! bought it immediately without checking or reading the back of the box. Had errors while installing the game so I checked YT for instructions and fixes… saw some gameplay trailer in the process… the next day, I returned the game. Felt like I was scammed lol Lesson: research, check reviews, check gameplay trailers before buying a game.
This is actually the reason why this game shouldn't have had the name Sacred in it. Because it's not, and I honestly wouldn't be able to recommend it, especially since it is a totally different game.
Dialogue, especially on Sacred 2 - its one of those rare game franchises where the english language is the real bad dubbing, the german original lines were performed by high caliber voice actors, people who voice (big actor) hollywood movies for the german audience. Very high quality, still a bit on the cringe end sometimes admittedly, but a big bunch of fun just default, very enjoyable and professional. to put that into perspective, to this day still, i have a selection of different voice files on my hard disk just because i genuinely enjoy listening to them every once in a while, they were that good. Sacred and Sacred 2 were magnificent games, in its big and small pictures. the level of detail and dedication to that is still hard to find anywhere else. its a pity and a shame that the studio went bankrupt and s-3 was made the way it was. fond memories.
Got the game free on xbox gold and listened to podcasts while playing, had a fun time. Also I think Sacred Citadel is also part of the Sacred series and that‘s a sidescrolling beat em up
thanks for this video. i was SO upset with sacred 3. sacred 1 and sacred 2 are the best the genre had to offer. i even enjoyed sacred citadel for what it was! sacred 3 killed it. THEY KILLED MY BOIIIII
I call Sacred 3, Golden Axe 3D. I finished the game in coop mode with my wife and some funny lines became inside jokes to us, that we still refer to them till now, most of them is from this horny weapon spirit :P like "uh uh uh one more time" or "sexy!" This was my first "sacred" game so the previous entries didn't affect my opinion for this game, and I think that is pretty good one, if you don't see it with sacred mentality. I really liked Sacred and Sacred 2 too. PS: You mentioned about the wheel and the fallen rocks/lava/w.e. but forgot about the altar that you have to power up with your own energy, in every f* level. PS2: Another game that falls in this category is Dungeon Siege 3 that I loved for its gameplay and story (and ofc I beat the game in coop with my wife :P). Never liked DS1 and DS2.
Sacred 3 looks like a mobile game instead of the classic Diablo-clone hack and slash RPG nostalgic. Sacred 3 is a perfect example of a company (Keen Games) ruining a game series (Ascaron) by attracting nostalgia junkies for quick profit. Like Dungeon Siege 3 (another game where a company (Obsidian Entertainment) ruining a game series (Wargaming Seattle) in the same way), it was the series downfall.
Sacred 3 is the game that ruined preorders for me. I was a huge fan of 1 and 2, so I immediately preordered 3 when it was announced. The worst part of its release was that they seemingly purposefully hid the change in game design until launch to capitalize on fans like myself.
With Sacred 3, same thing happened to the series as to Dungeon Siege with third installment - it got killed (to put it lightly). Curse of number 3? Nevertheless, nice timing with a video, I've started replaying Sacred 2 again recently. It's in my Top 3 h'n's games of all time.
I bought the game after watching this vid. Coming back to say that its an absolute juicer!! I picked it up for a literal Apple and is super easy Fun.. linear action. Story and the dialogues are Trash But we dont care. im Playing with GF and we having a great Time!
Dude, I'm currently playing this coop with my gf. After 2 levels we just muted the game and put some hammerfall on 😂 the story, dialogs and characters (specially the f*cking battle mages are INSUFFERABLE!!) Love your videos man.
Diablo 3 and Dungeon siege 3 are good. Its not that the games are bad, its people's expectation and comparing to the nostalgic first games which makes them feel less good. Peoole dont like change or changes.
I played a bit of it when I got from PS Plus a few years ago. It was kinda fun, but the terrible performance on PS3 put me off, so I never touched it again since. Might try it again on PC, specially co-op.
5:40 "power rangers villain" ahh dialogue is this game made by japanese dev, those comentator style remind me to some japanese tv show funny how this game was like made for children, but got M rated instead
This game is so corny it's hilarious it definitely aged better with me then I expected. The cheesy dialog has me rolling😂 So when this game was 1st released I was highly disappointed and very upset because the 1st 2 games were absolutely amazing so I was expecting the same if not better. Decided to dust off my PS3 and give it another go and I am glad that I did. The best way to play this game is to go in with no expectations and Try not to compare it to its predecessors. I can't speak for everyone else but I know for me my biggest disappointment was all the false advertising that came with this title which in turn gave me false expectations because they used what they gained from the 1st 2 games to hype this one up and it doesn't even come close to the 1st 2. Lazy cut scenes, Voice actors just don't give a shit, ect. and the list goes on. For some reason I am having way more fun than I ever had before playing this game. The corny dialog actually is making me laugh perhaps it's because I was able to broaden my view over the years and also I am now at a point in my life where I can play the game by itself without Constantly feeling the need to compare it to its previous titles. And I am grateful for it. It's not for everyone but with how intense video games are nowadays this is a refreshing break from the seriousness of other games. Great vid 👍 Really surprised that this is even a topic in 2023
To say I hate this game is an understatement. Sacred 2 was one of my favorite games. To this day it still may be my favorite ARPG. I loved the atmosphere, the music, the classes, etc.... Yes, the combat wasn't perfect and it had a fair share of bugs when it first launched. But I LOVED that you can go wherever you wanted. To be honest I thought this game was ahead of its time. Unfortunately though, Sacred 3 took everything that was amazing about the series and turned it into trash. Part of me wishes for a Sacred 4, but I know it will never live up to Sacred 2. If anything I wish we could get a remake of Sacred 2. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Never clicked a C4G video faster in my life. Thank you for making a video about this abomination of a video game, I was so disappointed playing this coming from Sacred 2.
Thank you for such a thoughtful detailed review. 👍 BTW, do you know how the console versions fare? Are they playable and enjoyable or much worse than PC?
I didn't even know there was a Sacred 3 lol. Or maybe I erased it completely. A pity, seems like a decent game in general, so it would have been better to have it released under another name.
Is the music as good as in the 2nd, at least ? That soundtrack was a banger, from the same composer (Tilman Sillescu) as Drakensang, Spellforce and some Piranha bytes games - so THE german videogame composer I guess
Sacred 3 is a good game, but they never should have called it Sacred 3, because it's a total different game than the 2 previous Sacred games. That was a big mistake of them, because people who were awaiting the 3rd game in that series, especially affter Sacred 2 which was such a fantastic game, were for the most part very disapointed. This had led to some massive shitstorm toward the developpers at the time. I was also disapointed when i saw Sacred 3, because i loved Sacred 2 on my Xbox 360. But i then learned to appreciate it, and seriously, if you forget it's the sequel of Sacred 2, it's sincerly a great game too.
The guy doing the stupid sexual comments isn't your character, but a ghost that gives you bonuses. I got this game for free and played through it, and it was fun to slash enemies, but it was real cringefest in terms of the story and dialogie. And there was no loot, which is the antithesis of a Sacred game. Come on, those games are a lootfest.
Yea, I know. I should have mentioned that though. I never really bothered with chaining the spirit, because this one was the first I got. Most other spirits seem to improve something in coop play, which I only started doing once I finished the game.
Man, Sacred 2 was such a fun game. It's a shame they never was a Sacred 3. Dungeon Siege is in the same boat. Two amazing games, but no Sequel. There just never was a Dungeon Siege 3. Come to think of it, the same happened to Dead Space as well. Only two games. It's a damn shame...
Sacred 3 was ass, but 1 and 2 were great and I'd say both are still good. It's my second CRPG after Diablo and I'm sad they screwed it up so badly with the 3rd game.
Maaaan sacred 3 was so sad to me i loved playing s2 never played it as much as my dad but a sacred 3 was meant to be the best game ever too bad they made it a shitty game
There’s a Sacred 3? I played Sacred Plus and I knew there was a Sacred 2 that had none of the cool characters of Sacred 1. But I didn’t know there was a Sacred 3.
The script and voice acting reminds me of the ghost stories dub except that’s funny. It’s like a bunch of people who aren’t remotely funny doing improv
If I had any artistic skill I would have drawn a picture of Aria sat on the ground with the pieces of a huge, smashed up wheel shoved in her mouth. Just thinking about it was soothing😁 Never go full claptrap.
But they were targeting Sacred fans, the question is why? So why that name? When developers will learn that destroy a franchise leaves less revenue than launch an entire new game for another kind of players.
It sucks they ruined the series by pulling a switch on people. I'm saying this as someone who enjoyed *all* the Sacred games. If it had just been an offshoot it would have done much better.
Pretty sure the dialogues simply have been done by someone who had little to no experience in the gaming industry. There has been quite a few games with a constant narrator during the 2000s. Most people already grew to hate it, years prior this game released.
This games is such a waste. I used the play sacred 1 a lot and the formula was great, sacred 2 was cool too, but sacred 3 was such a disappointment when it came out. It felt like a watered down version of the franchise.
For me, Sacred 1 & Sacred 2 are one of the best games EVER, just like World Of WarcrafT! :D But, Sacred 3 is totally mistake. I hope, they will make '' SACRED WORLD '' and this will be just like World Of WarcrafT with full lore line, full open World, Timewalk, free camera, full detailed, online with PvP system. Ascaron must wake up again and do that!
Sacred 3 killed the franchise, Torchlight 3 killed the franchise, Dungeon Siege 3 killed the franchise, Gothic 3 killed the franchise, Mafia 3 killed the franchise, Bioshock 3 split the fanbase, Diablo 3 split the fanbase, Soul Reaver 3 split the fanbase... i can see a pattern forming. Bascially all "Old" franchises have been killed off with newer games that have utter garbage game design. Modern iterations of old franchises can literally be described as Dumb by Design! Its funny how "Remasters" or "Remakes" are better than modern "games". See Metroid Prime Remaster, everyone is loving it, even without nostalgia goggles. In other words, re-released "Old" games, are more fun to play and at a higher quality. So much for the asinine people who say "games from back then weren't better". When they factually are! People just need to look at the year 2002, how much high quality games, even milestones in video game history got released that year alone. Thats how the golden age of gaming looked like.
Mafia franchise isn't dead actually, the Mafia 1 Remake was well recieved and they're apparently working on the next game in the series whch will hopefully be released in a far better state than Mafia 3 after the experience they gained developing the previous two games. Bioshock: Infinite was a universally acclaimed game. I'm not sure what you mean by Soul Reaver 3, Legacy of Kain had 5 games: Blood Omen 1+2, Soul Reaver 1+2 and Defiance, do you mean Defiance as "Soul Reaver 3" of sorts ? Gothic isn't exactly dead as there the Gothic 1 remake coming so we might see more games though no by PB most likely (which might not be the worst thing).
Sacred 3 my ass... it's like saying Arcania is Gothic 4.... but worse I remember picking it up expecting to play Sacred... i ended up cringing every 2 minutes from the dialogue and uninstalling soon after
True story. I wanted to get Sacred 2 for Christmas and my mom heard my wishlist. During Christmas 2016, I got Sacred 2 but I also got the 3rd game as well. I heard a lot of negative things about the game, I’ve heard some of the dialogue in Sacred 3 and it f**king sucked. At least Biomutant and Dungeon of Nahuelbeuk has better humor and dialogue than this crap.
I never finished this game. It got to the point where I refused to listen to the idiot-child characters vomit out another line of rage inducing dialog.
I didn't realise those franchises were big enough to have gravity. Putting Dungeon Siege in the title definitely didn't influence me with it's pedigree, but I watched gameplay and was intrigued enough to start and finish it. There's plenty of games I started but didn't finish. It's rare of me to beat a game nowadays. There's often something that bothers me enough--if not the pacing, that makes it okay for me to take a step away from it. My overall view of it was as a very positive experience.
What do you think about Sacred 3? Was the bad reception of this game totally justified?

I think that degenerate weapon spirit is the definitive reason why I wouldn't get Sacred 3. He was obnoxious and people like that is a part of why I don't enjoy online chat in games. While I could lower the voice volume, I don't have a problem with Aria, and my eyes will still pick up what he says as they often do in an instant for YoTube titles and comments.

Sacred 1 and 2 had some of the biggest open worlds for this type of games - and it was one of the best selling points of them. I wonder who came up with the genius idea to turn the third one into this super-linear experience that no one asked for.. In otherwords your opinion on the game is irrelevant due to your own negligence. Got it.
Hey C4G, another quality video. Been meaning to play Sacred 1 and 2 for years and always wondered why the fanbase doesn't really seem to like 3.
What a Coincidence, I literally just finished listening to Blind Guardians cover of Sacred Worlds (Sacred 2's theme).
This world is saaaaaaaacreeeed!
I only bought Sacred 2 back in the day just because of Blind Guardian :D
I happened to really enjoy this game. This was my introduction into the series so maybe that is why. I then played Sacred Citadel which is a banger.
Ugh this game was such a waste of potential :(
I was just thinking about it yesterday, thank you for this video. Wish this franchise could be resurrected properly.

Dungeon Siege 3 wasn't actually that bad (unlike Sacred 3) just an entirely different game from the rest of the series.
Sacred 3 was ass, but 1 and 2 were great and I'd say both are still good. It's my second CRPG after Diablo and I'm sad they screwed it up so badly with the 3rd game.
The writing on this game seems like a prime example of the "millennial writing" that Shredded Nerd talks about in one of his recent videos.
I watched it. That video was awesome.
First one was the best
Maaaan sacred 3 was so sad to me i loved playing s2 never played it as much as my dad but a sacred 3 was meant to be the best game ever too bad they made it a shitty game
There’s a Sacred 3? I played Sacred Plus and I knew there was a Sacred 2 that had none of the cool characters of Sacred 1. But I didn’t know there was a Sacred 3.
I have to say, after playing Sacred 2 I never want to see another sacred game again.
More Gauntlet than Sacred.
sacred turned into diablo, oh the horror
The script and voice acting reminds me of the ghost stories dub except that’s funny. It’s like a bunch of people who aren’t remotely funny doing improv
If I had any artistic skill I would have drawn a picture of Aria sat on the ground with the pieces of a huge, smashed up wheel shoved in her mouth. Just thinking about it was soothing😁 Never go full claptrap.
But they were targeting Sacred fans, the question is why? So why that name? When developers will learn that destroy a franchise leaves less revenue than launch an entire new game for another kind of players.
All I wanted was more sacred 2... instead... they made sacred 3... horrible. I'd love to have better steam deck support for sacred 1 and 2...
It sucks they ruined the series by pulling a switch on people. I'm saying this as someone who enjoyed *all* the Sacred games. If it had just been an offshoot it would have done much better.
I vaguely know of this one
Pretty sure the dialogues simply have been done by someone who had little to no experience in the gaming industry.
There has been quite a few games with a constant narrator during the 2000s. Most people already grew to hate it, years prior this game released.
Bravo lepi
sacred 3 was definitely wrong name choice for a good game for its time.
starcraft could animate the speaking npcs, 1998... sacred 3 can't in 2014. This game makes sexual harassment panda sad
If anyone sees this should I beat sacred 3 first so the next game is even better or start other way so I end with 3/ the worst one?
This games is such a waste. I used the play sacred 1 a lot and the formula was great, sacred 2 was cool too, but sacred 3 was such a disappointment when it came out. It felt like a watered down version of the franchise.
That narration would aggravate me too much to play this.
There was Sacred 3? Wow, the more you know.
This is like diablo 3 turn up to 11
we just pretend this game doesn't exist
For me, Sacred 1 & Sacred 2 are one of the best games EVER, just like World Of WarcrafT! :D But, Sacred 3 is totally mistake. I hope, they will make '' SACRED WORLD '' and this will be just like World Of WarcrafT with full lore line, full open World, Timewalk, free camera, full detailed, online with PvP system. Ascaron must wake up again and do that!
Bravo care
Sacred 2 is waaaaaaaaay better
Jesus it's like Joss Whedon vomited all over the script.
Whats the gloria joke pls someone explain 🤣 😂 🤣 😂 🤣
This channel told me to play sacred 2 in 2022, so I bought it when it was only £3 and I still feel robbed. Complete and utter garbage of a series.
+1
No. This game should NEVER be played.
Sacred 3 my ass... it's like saying Arcania is Gothic 4.... but worse
I remember picking it up expecting to play Sacred... i ended up cringing every 2 minutes from the dialogue and uninstalling soon after
Sacred 3 sucks,it just like with Gothic 3
I never finished this game. It got to the point where I refused to listen to the idiot-child characters vomit out another line of rage inducing dialog.
Nope
This game is awful
Sacred 3 and Dungeon Siege 3 were both pathetic abominations and cash grabs...
Dungeon siege 3 altough disappointing is still way better game then Sacred 3.
@@darthportus it might be, I didn't rly play a lot of it because of how arcadey it was compared to ds2
