The Tonkinese cats origin is Thailand .They have existed in Thailand for hundreds of years before the Europeans 'discovered ' them. In Thailand the breeds known in the West as Siamese, Burmese or Tonkinese are considered the same breed and are now known as Thai cats.
My Tonkinese cats are very talkative, active, well-behaved. They're the kind of lapcats every cat owner dreamed of. Mine like to climb on my shoulders while I'm doing house works.
I have had 3 Tonks, they are very talkative, fearless like the Burmese, and take no bs like the Siamese. My last girl, Rachael, has had Kidney disease since we discovered at 16, and it was early stage. She is now 21, will be 22 in May. She absolutely has to be the centre of attention. She gets sub Q's twice a day, eats only Hills wet KD, and is on Mirtazipine for appetite. She moved to the usota from Australia in 2004 with me. My first Tonk, Skipper lived to 18.5, she was absolutely fearless, and Rachaels half sister passed at 17. They are without doubt the Royals of the feline world
Breeders wanted to create a loving, affectionate cat breed that was intelligent and less vocal than the Siamese cat. The Tonkinese resulted from crossing the Siamese and Burmese breeds for the best characteristics of both. Affectionately called Tonks, these cats love their humans. They are known for being friendly, active, and exceptionally affectionate. They love attention and will demand it.

My very first cat is a Tonkinese and she’s now almost 8! Healthy as ever. I hope she’s content and lives on a looong long life 😁💛
