  • Imagine you're a Nintendo executive in charge of Miyamoto's pet project. The company has spent two decades staring at sales charts, thinking of ways to make the line go up. Suddenly, the intern drops a Poochie plush on the table and starts dashing head-first into a wall. After exhausting every idea to make Pikmin happen, you decide to go with the now-concussed man's plan and greenlight Pikmin 4. This time, the line went up.

This video was inspired by a conversation I had with my friend David (pictured in the video). It was a one-sided conversation, where David trashed on Pikmin for being "too stressful" and "not fun." Keep in mind, he likes the Dead Rising series and cites "Dead Rising 3" as the best one. No further comment.

My main issue was the tutorial. I don't know how you would introduce new mechanics in an organic way, but it's something I appreciate more with the first two games. You just pop in & PLAY them which I value immensely.

Only Pikmin 2 and 4 have red-herring endings and no day-limit. Pikmin 3 forced players to finish the game before their food supply ran out, but it was so easy to find fruit, and finding them all would give you well over 70 days (slightly less on Ultra Spicy), so only a journalist would ever run out.

Great video as always! Haven't played any Pikmin games and this looks really fun. It feels like the casualization stuff has happened to quite a few game series over the years. I usually come away enjoying the newer games somewhat, (it varies series to series) but not in the same way or quite as much as the older and more challenging ones.

Slight Spoilers: The thing that impressed me about Pikmin 4 the most was just how much extra stuff was locked behind side content. A whole set of extra Dandori missions are unlocked after you do Olimars missions, with real substantial unlocks for completing them. Theres two separate powerups tied to side missions that are honestly pretty easy to miss. Theres also the cosmetics you mentioned in the video. It felt like something that games don't do anymore, so many games nowadays would either piecemeal stuff like that into some form of dlc, or would be too scared of players missing it, or just dont care enough to include little tidbits tucked away. It makes Pikmin 4 feel kind of classic in a way, it reminds me of those Gamecube games in a really good way.

Thinking about it, I'd still reset tf out of any Pikmin game if I killed a pikmin. Having that function there for those who want to more casually do no death runs makes it at least a little more convenient since it's already hard for a newcomer in that aspect. Maybe just do a soft reset or to the beginning of the day only if you really want a challenge since that is most likely how it originally was with the old games. Never thought it was that hard, but I do think that a time limit does stress people out, sometimes excessively. For that reason, I never finished 1 and skipped to Pikmin 2, which I also didn't finish lol.
People with that time anxiety problem (including me) just need to remind themselves that they still have the option: try again, undoing any work since the last save, or keep going. I might just try Pikmin 4 because of this option (and because god I love pup

Same kind of story with Monster Hunter compared to Dead Rising where they fucked up everything by the fourth instead of just casualizing to make the lines rise. And rise they did for Pikmin and MonHun.
Eh, it is what it is.

Space genre needs a huge fundraiser. Each time i support a space game it always gets destroyed before release by the normies. half of them don't even reconize what they've done. they're monetizing and taking away from talented studios.

Getting high scores in this game is a pain due to the auto aim. Loved the game though but please add a feature to turn off auto aim Nintendo.

Pikmin was always one of the few nintendo series I was curious about yet never got to try, however due to Nintendo's unreasonably predatory behavior in the past five years or so I'll probably never spend my money on it (or any other of their first party releases for that matter).
It might be a silly thing to do for most people, but I'll die on that hill.

time travel is mostly meant for getting the most done with your day as you can see moments where if you did something better you likely could have gotte more done in the day. Taking wrong turns, wasting time in a wrong area, you can optimize your day by going back to a point where you can do all of that better.
Also you're statement is incorrect, you can only rewind back to set checkpoints after certain amounts of time and only up to the most recent cave transition. You cant even redo past days, once you pass the point of no return your mistakes are permanently saved.

You totally can redo past days in the Spoiler quest with spoiler character. I demonstrated it in the spoiler section.
