    Some tips to consider:
    1) Gravitational potential energy (PEgrav) depends on the body's mass m and change in vertical position Δy. The Δy is always relative to a chosen reference (e.g. the ground, the floor, the top of a table, etc.) In one example you used (a bigger water tumbler and a smaller one on top of a table) their PEs are not equal (greater for the bigger mass) if the chosen reference is the floor (the Δy is the same for both). But then if the chosen reference is the top of the table, they both have zero PE.
    2) Pushing a hammer to drive a nail on a piece of wood--- you said the drawing suggests only kinetic energy. That's correct if you only consider the nail as it moves or penetrates into the wood. But the hammer has potential energy when it is first raised to a certain height before striking the nail.
    3) The given initial velocity of a ball being "thrown" up (30 m/s) is unrealistic (probably this was 3.0 m/s).

    Hi Teacher Khristine, i got confused
    Teacher Khristine, my teacher said that the given for g which is acceleration is always 9.8m/s². It is already given
    So for this problem.

    There is a bell at the top of a tower that is 50m high.The bell weights 180N. The bell has ________ Energy??
    Given : height= 50m
    mass = 180n or 180kg
    gravitational due to gravity = 9.8m/s²
    Formula: PE=mgh
    Solution: PE=mgh
    (180kg)(9.8m/s²)(50m)
    = 88,200 J

      Thank you for your question. Mass is different from weight. When you say mass it is regardless of the acceleration to gravity. It is just the "mass" that's why its unit is kg or g. But, if it is weight, the unit is Newton (N) which is also equivalent to kg•m/s². Wherein kg (mass) x m/s² (unit for acceleration due to gravity). So when you say "the bell weighs 180N" that is already equivalent to the mass and the acceleration due to gravity which is 9.8m/s². But if the problem says, the bell weighs 180kg, that's the only time that you have to multiply the given with acceleration due to gravity. Always look for the unit used mass (kg or g), acceleration (m/s²), weight (N or kg•m/s²), energy (J or N•m).

      (30m/s)² is equaivalent to 900m²/s² because 30x30 is 900.
      So, the equation will be KE = 1/2 (2.3kg)(900m²/s²), when you multiply 2.3 by 900 the answer is 2070.
      So the equation goes like this
      KE = 1/2(2070kg•m²/s²)
      Half of 2070 is 1035.
      1/2 is also equivalent to 0.5, when you multiply 0.5 to 2070, the final answer will ve 1035. :)

      900 m2/s2 when you multiply it to 2.3kg it is 2070. There is still 1/2 in the equation, so 2070 multiply it to 0.5(which is also equivalent to 1/2) the answer is 1035. :)

      2.3 x 900 is 2070. But based on the equation you still have to multiply it to ½.
      KE = ½ (2.3kg)(900m²/s²)
      KE = ½ (2070 kg•m²/s²)
      KE = 1035 kg•m²/s²
