Our national anthem was God Save The King/Queen until 1980 and O Canada was the De Facto anthem. My mom was singing O Canada and God Save The Queen in Kindergarten in the early 1960s before under the Red Ensign.

They were, by-and-large, treated with a very light hand and had their way of life interfered with very little. They fell under British rule because France didn't care about them and the Americans wanted to conquer and erase them. But we changed our flag and anthem 200 years later, without a vote, in order to appease a significant minority in the country... maybe someone should have told them to get over it.
www.gofundme.com/surreyflag On Saturday August 29, 2015, the landmark 12-meter-by-24-meter Canadian flag was destroyed by a severe storm that also knocked down trees and knocked out power for days. The Surrey Flag Society was formed by neighbours who wish to rally around this powerful and beloved symbol. Our goal is to raise enough money to buy the good people at Barnes Wheaton North Surrey a brand new flag as a good will gesture and a big thank you for keeping "The Flag" flying, with a maintenance cost over $25,000 per year, year after year. It is the opinion of the Surrey Flag Society that we all benefit from this beautiful icon. We would love to pay them back just once. "The Flag" has been flying 86 meters high and mighty over our city since 1987. It has been a source of pride, not just for the local community, but for the entire city and country. The flag that was shredded into pieces during the storm was only two days old. A quick history of "The Flag"...
