How to Clean a Fridge

Fridges can get gross fast. Where the vegetables you swore you were going to eat go to die. No one likes a stinky sticky fridge so we are here to help.
Did you know you can remove most shelves to make cleaning easier? Just be sure to let any glass reach room temperature before introducing hot water.
Keeping your fridge clean and organized can save you cash. You will know what you have on hand and what you need to use before it goes bad.

I’d recommend placing small pieces of painter’s tape to mark the shelving slots (or use dry erase markers).

So this is how we do it:
Clean out the fridge on grocery shopping day. Survey what’s expired or used up to help build the shopping list (keeping a list on the fridge for items you’ve used up helps with this.) Remove everything, clean, etc. as shown in the video. Finally, we choose to grocery shop on trash night, in case there was anything missed in the fridge like a fruit or veg that sat too long or leftovers that never were finished. Ideally I try to keep a current inventory printed on the side of the fridge so as not to miss things and end up throwing them away, but it gets away from me sometimes. When you’re putting groceries away would be the time to update the inventory.
I don’t disinfect it weekly, but definitely taking it apart and wiping it down keeps it like this, looking brand new. I absolutely HATE stinky dirty old refrigerators so this is a weekly must.

After bringing my shelves to room temperature, I run them on the express cycle of my dishwasher. Also, the side shelves on the top rack.

That is a Grab a Rag, they are a micro fibre rag that come in a big box at Costco (automotive aisle). They are reusable!
