  • I was looking for the perfect octave fuzz, but this pedal is broken!
    After troubleshooting the Lizard Queen, I got it to work long enough to compare it to The Argo by Mythos. Let's see how they stack up.

      @@hort8520 I tried different guitar cables and had the same problem. The guitar cable leading to the amp had to be at just the right angle, applying just the right pressure to work, so the issue wasn’t me 🤷🏻.

    This pedal does have some bad settings, but it has some really fantastic ones too. And it helps to have more bass EQ on the amp or guitar. I have a Reverend Charger HB with a bass contour knob, and at full bass, the pedal sounds fantastic at any setting. But if I turn the bass down even 15%, some pedal settings start to sound shrill.

    Your pedal was defective, but I would argue you should have waited for a replacement unit for a proper review of the product. Otherwise it just comes accross as a review on EHX QC. Much like some reviewers love to "review" Fender MiM instruments just to bash the company, when the product they have in their hands has factory problems (reviewing a lemon to portray the company as a lemon-factory-you do not necessarily come accross that way, to be fair.)
    My EHX Lizard Queen had no noise issues, nor weird buzzes, and sounds very good. I like that knobs limitations, and how the balance knob isn't really a tone knob. Love its dirty cleanliness. I do blend it with a clean signal, but it's an awesome effect-IMHO.
    My apologies, do not mean to argue. Thanks so much. 👍

    I think you need some ground loop isolation. Start by plugging all of your audio equipment into one surge protector instead of multiple wall outlets. All audio equipment is subject to interference and if you use multiple wall outlets to plug in audio gear that's connected to each other: the ground wires throughout the building create a giant loop and therefore work like a big antenna for picking up interference. Another thing that helps a lot is ferrite bead noise insulators. They're inexpensive and you just pop them onto your audio power cables and it reduces the interference from ground circuits and AC current. It's definitely worth addressing this perspective before calling out any issue or fault to any gear.

    • @everynotecountsofficial
      @everynotecountsofficial  Рік тому +1

      That’s why I used a Walrus Phoenix isolated power supply for all the pedals and ran all the equipment into a power conditioning surge protector (and used shielded guitar cables). Thanks for watching 🙂

    I got a defective pedal as well but in a different way. The sound is shrill as hell even when at full Shadow. The Shadow/Sun dial doesn't really do anything except for a tiny shift into a slightly darker tone... ironically when the dial gets into SUN territory. Then it immediately goes back to what is was originally - super bright. And there's so much noise it's ridiculous. Hello? Quality control? GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER! So disappointed. I just ordered an E-H Octavix. Hopefully it won't disappoint. (BTW the stacked setup is the exact thing I used to do with a Pigtronix OCTAVA. Absolutely fantastic and so quiet. Use it for the octave effect but get the fuzz/distortion from whatever you like. Wish I hadn't parted with it.)

      I'm not convinced either of you got a deffective pedal. It's a very specific tool. Don't use a Phillips screwdriver when you need a fork. After re-listening to this specific video I'm convinced he will never use it in a manner where it sounds good. Turn the volume up on the pedal and turn the volume down on your guitar, dude. let's be honest. The Lizard Queen is just about beeing part of a community experience. The product is secondary. Most people who bought this will play it only once or twice. You will never find anyone who impulse bought the large version during the live presentation openly regretting their purchase. They played us like a damn fiddle.

      I absolutely understand your sentiment. I think there were people out there like me that were just excited to try a new octave fuzz for $99, but there are certainly individuals that had been begging for this product to be created for the last few years. Nothing wrong with wanting to be part of a community and making a purchase as part of a group experience, though that wasn’t my motivation (or yours, it sounds like). One day, maybe I will find the mythical, perfect octave fuzz. One day… lol.

    Recieving a bad pedal is disappointing, but I would have waited to do the compariuson video until you got one that works. Seems like the only reason this video was made was to let everyone know you got a bad one. Are you goin gto make another one after getting a replacement?

    • @everynotecountsofficial
      @everynotecountsofficial  Рік тому +1

      Since the problem seems to be related to the output jack of the pedal, I made a judgement call and assumed that, when I had a good connection, the circuit was being accurately represented.
      I sent it back for a refund and don’t know if I will get another one. In the end, I liked it, but I don’t know if I liked it more than what I already have.

It also sounds like you took the noisiest possible guitar amp combination and then expected The lizard Queen to not be noisy. Put yourself in some 1970s shoes. This thing is stony as all get out. Your setup? Not so stoney and of noisy. Noisy isn't bad, But it is bad if you're expecting some kind of gated clean thing... ... I'm not quite sure you are cut out for this..
