i don’t understand how kids can make fun of what someone eats. i remember being in elementary and wanting to try some of my friends food because i haven’t had it before, not making fun of them for having something different

I have 2 girls ,one in 1st and 1 in 2nd grade and they dont have problems but the stories they tell me about kids are awful and what kind of kids the teachers have to deal with. Im telling you these parents need to start doing better. I was raised to respect everyone. These people nowadays are still not done growing up themselves before having kids.

Agreed 💯%. I just had to do that at my son's school TODAY. His bully started calling him names & when my son ignored him......the bully escalated to physically assaulting him on a daily basis at least 1x a day. No one deserves that.
The thing about bullies is a lot of times the principal does nothing or they take sides with the bullies happened to me. Absolutely horrible. There should be better laws in place to prevent bullying. It’s sad we’re in 2024 and this kind of stuff still happens
Im Vietnamese and I know the lunch mockery INTIMATELY. it was the late 80's and 90's, times were very different. My mom said she wasn't giving me money for lunch or changing how she cooks.... so i just started throwing my lunch away on the way to school and then just not eating lunch. You're a very good mother. Not that mine wasn't, but its good this point of view exists.
This is why teachers should stand up with the victims of bullying and teach the class how it's work to hurt someone feelings and not mention their mental health, also if I was a first grade teacher, I would ask the High school to borrow their cooking class for a bit for the first graders to learned how to cook good food, so that can help the first graders how to enjoy cooking, seriously tho, elementary schools should have their own cooking class so that kids can learned how to cook and enjoy cooking with two teachers in the room to make sure that kids don't burn down the school.
As a teacher, it breaks my heart to hear that she’s being picked on. Please reach out to her teacher if you haven’t already. I know a lot of parents tell me that they try to wait it out and didn’t want to bother me with concerns about this kind of thing. And by the time they actually come to me their child has been so sad for way too long. Most teachers want to know what’s happening so they can step in and make some changes. No teachers want to see kids being sad over something as silly as lunchtime. It doesn’t mean that the other girls are going to get in trouble and that grace is going to feel some kind of repercussion from the other kids. My moms Indian and I always felt ashamed to bring my homemade curries for lunch bc kids would make fun of me. Looking back in it, I should have been proud to have such a wonderful, caring mom with home-cooked meals.
As someone who works with kids, please let an authority figure know about what's going on and try to find out who exactly is doing it. Its not snitching, the teacher may not even actually directly get involved yet, but they'll be aware of it and able to keep an eye on it and try to either keep those children away from her, mediate things so they can both see each others perspectives and learn to understand each other, or even help them find things in common so they could become friends. It's our jobs to try and keep kids safe as a number one rule, educated as a number 2, and happy as a number 3. Your kid being happy and having a good day ia super important to us, because if they arent happy, they arent learning, and they might be unsafe. So happy to see you taking action to help keep your daughter happy, but please also reach out so there are eyes and ears on her side at school as well as at home. She needs all the adults in her life clued in so they can all work together as a team to be there for her

I had a friend that would always talk about how me and my other friends food were off brand, and i just felt a little more insecure about bringing my own lunch to school. One day I invited her to my house for a sleepover (don’t ask why I did idk why) and the first thing she would talk about is how all my food is weird and off brand in my pantry (my mom is Brazilian) and she said all Brazilian people have the weirdest food. Also, one time I mentioned that I go to Aldi to get my groceries and she was like, “is that like an off brand of Kroger” and I was just so done with it.
My mom made THE BEST sandwiches for me (i still crave them) in elementary school and yeah, it looked kinda weird (seeded bread, pesto, goat cheese, etc). But hey, I was already different and easily teased, but that lunch was something to be proud of, not something I remember anyone teasing me about. Honestly my adult friends still sometimes tease me about my weird foods and preferences but why should I care, it’s my food 😂
This has happened to my daughter as well amd it broke my heart when she came home and told me. My daughter had a sensory disorder and not just with the feelings of some clothing but also with food so 95% of the year i have to make and pack her lunches. It took her a very long time to pack the FRUIT she had that day again because she was so worried about getting picked on again! Kids can be so cruel nowadays and bully other kids for even the smallest of things.....no child deserves to be treated like this!
I have never understood why in other countries people make fun of other children's lunches. In India, all the students (even my friends who are in different schools) get sooo happy and interested in a variety of lunches and are always willing to try they praise their friend's parent's cooking.😊

I think it’s great that you want to make her feel wonderful every single day, but giving her the opportunity to stand up for herself, and show some pride in herself, and be able to handle bullies will make her stronger in the end

In India were I grew up, we literally used to switch tiffins. Every single person in the group had some signature meal and as soon as they would open the lid, everything would be gone like magic😭😂 good old days. I don't remember ever eating my own tiffin😂
It’s nice that you made your daughter a nice lunch but you should also try to teach your daughter to stand up for herself and not let others make fun of her food. From experience change is not always the best way out of problems when you can speak up for yourself.😇😊
