- The Ward Cleaver home as it appeared in the 1959- 63 Universal TV series, a cozy family home on very nice residential street, it was originally constructed for the feature movie The Desperate Hours in 1955, and later Universal backlot's "Paramount House" as the Cleaver residence in Leave it to Beaver 1958-1963. Other TV series and movies that used the house. www.flickr.com...
The Paramount House, constructed for the 1955 film "The Desperate Hours," is seen here in 3.bp.blogspot.c... its original Colonial Street location on the lot. All of the houses on the north side of Colonial Street backed up to the Los Angeles River Flood Control Channel just a few hundred feet behind them. This area of the Universal lot was originally known as "River Road," and dated to the silent era. In 1981, Colonial Street was relocated to another area of the Universal lot, and many of the facades, including the Paramount House, were re-assembled there, but in different locations relative to each other compared to their arrangement on the original

The house lives on today. gocalifornia.ab...
Watching Leave it to Beaver every morning! Its on Me Tv at 8 and 8:30am! That house was so beautiful! Its a wonder they didn't renovate it and make it look the same, but modern! Wow!
In case anyone is interested MeTV plays two episodes back-to-back M-F from 8am - 9am, MeTV has become my favorite channel to watch. Btw thanks for the fantastic upload, enjoyed it very much.
👍👌✌
I love watching MeTV. I wish they would have The Fugitive on more than once a week, and at a much better time slot than 2:00 am Monday mornings.
I grew up in the 70's on Long Island and can't ever remember seeing reruns of LITB, back in the early to mid seventies almost all the reruns were the color versions of 60's tv shows, I Dream Of Jeannie, Beverly Hillbillies, Bewitched, Gomer Pyle, Get Smart, Gilligan's Island, etc. I guess 50's and early 60's shows were considered too old then, but I do remember watching and loving The Rifleman, so there were some of those black and whites. But I've fallen in love with the Beaver and his family on MEtv over the last couple of years, it's a great show and I especially like Hugh Beaumont the dad, he did a great job, very likable and human portrayal. I understand that he also directed episodes as well, so a multi talented guy, the whole cast was great and memorable.
@@robertkees6048Yeah, I remember in the 1970s and early 80s, they were doing reruns of Bewitched, etc. like you said, but not Leave It to Beaver. But, then, I remember in New York City and suburbs, they started reruns of LITB in the mid 1980s on regular (not cable TV) and it introduced a whole bunch of us kids to this show LITB that we didn't even know existed because before then we only knew about Bewitched and the others you listed.
@@MusicFanOnline I used to watch My Three Sons on reruns and to me the oldest was Robbie, then Chip and Erne and they were always taken care of by Uncle Charlie. I never saw the black and white years where Robbie was the middle kid and Mike was the oldest. Didn't know Fred from I love Lucy was the original Charlie, had no idea any of that existed until Metv reruns and I realized there are like 5 seasons in black and white, they never showed those shows back then.
Hell I used to watch Gomer Pyle USMC and never even knew he was a spinoff character from the Andy Griffith show, cause I never saw Andy Griffith, so to me goofy Gomer was just what I saw from his show, I guess again, the Andy Griffith show in black and white was considered too old for the rerun game at the time, weird. There's tons of shows that started in b&w and converted to color, right in that mid sixties spot.
@@robertkees6048 Interesting. Yeah, and I didn't know that about "Fred" being on "My Three Sons". I remember seeing him in another couple of old movies and being surprised like "Oh, there's Fred!"
That house should be an historic shrine.
@Napoleon Crassius
Yup, also used as the house on "Marcus Welby"
Sadly it was demolished in 2022. It should’ve been preserved!!
I would so buy it! Love it up and make the Cleaver family proud. Even Aunt Martha lol
I watch leave it to Beaver every day on peacock 🦚 and that's so sad how the house 🏠 seems to have withered away over the years 😔💔
No question It's the original house used for the 3rd to 6th seasons of Leave it to Beaver and set on Universal's back lot. I watched them set the house upon I beams in 1987 and move it to another location on Universal's back lot. If the house is still there today and in what condition it's in, I do not know.
What a shame that it wasn't preserved😢 it was such a beautiful house ❤
I took the Universal Studios tour in the seventies and when we rode by Beaver's house (the second house they had on the show) the tour leader told us that the home was used for Marcus Welby, M.D. starring Robert Young, after the first Beaver show wrapped. They use the same buildings over and over for different shows, that's why things look so familiar to viewers. The Bates Motel was fun to see. It was just a front, nothing in the back at all, including the big house where Norman lived. With a flick of a switch the Bates home looked like it went up in flames for some special effect when the used the house (also just a front) in another movie after "Psycho". It was fascinating to see the streets and towns in Universal that are used over and over again. But seeing the Beav's house was the best.
That house is such an icon and sad then keep it up
So very sad. I've always remembered that house in all its beauty, and it ripped my heart out to see it in such disrepair. : ( Those were the days before America lost its innocence.
Andrew Grey thanks to the democrats
Haha..if you believe that you are a huge moron...
@@Anth230 You weren't even alive back then, so you can't possibly know what I--or anyone else who were young and remember how things were in America back then--are talking about?! The only part of the country that was bad was the south because of the way they treated blacks at the time. We didn't have anything on TV with even a hint of immorality, sex, curing, disrespect toward elders, parents or teachers like you were brought up in. So don't go around calling people you don't know from Adam or Eve names when we say something about the better days of America. It's people like you who are the problem today. As of this date, 35 "Likes" on my comment prove that you don't know what you're talking about!
Yeah, before Trump came along and screwed everything up!
@@felixmadison5736 President Trump had nothing to do with this, nor our loss of innocence! It all began when a communist punk named Lee Oswald shot and killed President Kennedy!
Ward Cleaver needs to take the station wagon down to the local hardware store to buy some paint, grass seed, and other items, so he, Wally, and Beaver can do some much needed repairs. Wally could ask Eddie Haskel and Lumpy to help. June could plant some flowers in the yard, then serve everyone some lemonade.
Ward died 38 years ago he is buried in the front yard
Maybe Gilbert and whitey can help too💔😔
And the car needs a new back glass too!
@ Laredo grande--- I noticed that also. Maybe the car had no air conditioning, and Ward removed the rear glass in the summer to cool down the car. LOL
@@mikegruber172 Beaver dug him up and buried him in the "Pet Cemetery! Now... no one is safe! Ahhh just kidding...or am I? 🤖💀👾
Oh, I’m really shocked. I remember riding by that house in 1985 when it was with all the other houses I’m really wondering what is sitting there now. That’s really a shame. They should put that façade in the Smithsonian or in some kind of museum in LA. I know it’s just a shell. It certainly didn’t have an interior but still, it would be really interesting. Even better if they created the interiors the way the show did inside the studio.
This house was first in used in the 1955 movie The Desperate Hours. The criminals in the movie were shot all to Hell there
the house was also used as the house of "Marcus Welby MD" tv show
I wish I had a family like that with manners.🙏😭💔 I LOVE LITB FOREVER!!!🙏❤
Create your own. We did! I came from a very messed up family. Lots of abuse. My husband and I decided to follow the Lord Jesus and he/we transformed our lives. We created the Cleaver kind of environment for our family. We now have that for our family life. It was a difficult road to break free but so worth it!
@@bayoutown1990 I sure will, thank you!🙏🤍🕊
Thanks for posting this bill
To bad it's in this condition now, but looks fixable though
SO sad..i saw the house back in the 70s at universal studio tours. It was in a set subdivision. And now it looks like this???? so so sad. This is history and Universal lets this happen to it?. Almost as sad as how they let the set for Andy Griffith Show be torn down on the 40acre tract. The courthouse town etc...ALL GONE. They could have made a fortune on tours. Thanks for the video!!
Agreed on the Andy set. I'm still angry over that. What Griffith fan wouldn't of LOVED to of walked the streets of Mayberry as the very way it appeared on t.v.? In addition, I've seen two different Beaver houses via the web. One house happens to b this one and another is in an obvious subdivision set that resembles what you had mentioned on a backlot. The photos appear recent, so I'm not sure what this one is. Compare some photos. This house resembles the original from the series, but it doesn't appear as closely as the other that I'm mentioning. Look at the windows, where they're located, size, style, and other details. I concur that it IS a shame if this is the original home, but I have my doubts. There's nothing else around it. Odd. The munsters home still exists as it was used for desperate housewives, and I seem to think the Beaver house was associated with the same backlot of homes.
Dee Ray
Thanks for your commentsDee Ray and totally agree. This looks nothing like the one i saw in a subdivision back lot in the 70s. So sad.
The Andy set gone really makes me angry. Its hard to believe they did what they did. To me its like tearing down Graceland. Historic. All gone :(
take care!!
I thought the same thing! A shame.
agreed, natserog! I,as well, saw the house in the 70's when the Universal Studios Tour was "MAGICAL"! (I was dating a tour guide there in the late '70's -she knew my favorite comedy was"(NationalLampoon's)Animal House so she would always tell the tram driver(Lawyer Radcliffe-I still remember his name!) to stop @ the DEATHMOBILE, the statue of EMIL FABER(which, for some reason, was in the wooded area) & the DELTA HOUSE facade from the TV series "DELTA HOUSE"! My uncle Vinnie knew Mr Wasserman(from MCA-TV/REVUE Productions & later CEO of Universal Studios) Once he was gone, that was the end of Universal Studios for me! I was @ the DARK SHADOWS FESTIVAL(From the ABC-TV horror Soap Opera) which was held @ the Burbank Marriott,so I decided to see how Universal changed- I was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!! I definitely won't go back! I'd rather have my"happy memories" of the "Good Old Days!"
I agree and that they could have made a fortune on tours.
I remember there was also another house used at MGM Studios in Orlando (before it was Disney Studios). We took the backlot tour and they had the Beaver house on the tour, looked just like the original but it was used for The New Leave It To Beaver. I think it has since been torn down, the last time we did the backlot tour it was no longer there.
The house was much better back in the 50s and a much better community.

The best house that the back lot of Universal Studios Tours had was "Leave It To Beaver" and "The Munsters". First time ever seeing them both was in the mid 1970s as a kid. My eyes and mouth both became wide open when I first saw The Munsters house and then 2 houses down across the street was The Beaver's house. But at that time, they had the lights cameras filming or getting it ready to film for Marcus Welby, MD. Wishing I had seen Robert Young cause he's one of my favorite actors, loved him from his older television show, "Father Knows Best"
Occasionally you can catch a quick glimpse of the Munsters House on LITB, and I believe that it was featured in an episode
Amazing what decent landscaping can do.
Sorry to be the barrier of bad news, but the house was on Universal studios lot. It had a front and side but no back. The universal tours would drive around it to show visitors
So, the original house was lifted off its foundation and transported to this new location where it then deteriorated? Because in the video, the original house was on a slab with only one step up to the front porch, on a totally flat lot. The second house is built over a crawl-space foundation with four steps up to the front porch, on a sloping lot. Same plan and style house, of course, but same house? Only if it were moved to this new spot (only to be left to decay? Hmm.. not so sure about this).
Podunk In the information box above all the links to the history of the house are listed
Going by those links, there was never any mention of what would be a very painstaking procedure (particularly of a house built directly on a slab, as you cannot just go "under" the house to outfit the elaborate rigging, something you can FAR mor easily do with a house built over a crawl space) of the Leave It to Beaver house being actually removed from its foundation, transported to a completely random location (all at absolutely enormous expense), where a perfectly-sized, yet obviously very poorly built crawl-space foundation was waiting for it, where it would then be allowed to decay. In other words, yes, that is the same type house (who knows how many hundreds of examples of which exist in the L.A. area alone), but, NO, that is not the same house used in the filming of Leave It to Beaver. It's that simple.
Podunk It 'is that simple it is the same house. www.thestudiotour.com/ush/backlot/colonialstreet_11.php
Yeah, it doesn't appear to be the same house. Though after reviewing some other posts and links to websites, it appears as if 2 houses were used as the one featured in this video. I know the cleavers lived in another home in the early seasons, but this one in the video is the one I'm mentioning of having a double. If this is in fact the original or one of, then it's terrible to see this house fall apart. The Munsters homes been used in Desperate Housewives, The Burbs, and other filmings, so why can't they do the same thing for the Cleaver house? I hate that they tore down the lot to Mayberry at the old Desilu Studios, but this home can still b preserved from another classic sitcom.
(see edit below) Dee, this house was not connected to Leave It To Beaver. The only thing it has in common with the show is that IT, in addition to probably hundreds of OTHER houses in the L.A. area, was built from the same plan as the one in the show. But this one is completely different, in that it's built on a totally sloping lot, on a totally raised foundation, etc.-
August 2015 EDIT: omfg, I believe it IS the same house. I stand corrected- maynardcat, your persistence caused me to pause the vid at Tony Dow's exit, zoom in and compare to the closest pic of the "other" house and compare the stone pattern around the front doorway between the two houses. They actually seem to match. This really is unbelievable. And the fact that the present crawl space foundation seems to be an afterthought WOULD indicate that this house was formerly on a different foundation. Holy f- sh-.. WHY would they go to all that trouble and expense and let the house rot like this?
The other side of that coin is that the house is still quite restorable/fixable. Do you think this is someone's plan?
Yes, watching 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents' right now and there they are: in Ward and June's house! So odd to see them talking about murder in that house.
The original Leave it to Beaver house is long gone. It was demolished back in the early 70's
This house is from the Leave it to Beaver movie 1990's I think.
The house on Desperate Housewives is a smaller version of The leave it to Beaver house.
serrano46571 really, that's good
Funny, because Desperate Hookers have zero morals, where as The Cleavers had tons.
I thought for a minute it was Detroit. One house looking like this on a residential street is common. All the others destroyed.
+ELECTRICCLOCK Hahaha. How Very Sad...But True!!!
Soon based on current events Minneapolis, Seattle, Atlanta and St. Louis will look like Detroit.
Sad! Sorry to see the little tree that was to the (our) left is not longer there, either.
it also was used in the backdrop of a movie called big fat liar it was painted yellow it had a garage beside of it with two dormers on the garage they will not destroy it cause it is a classic any time i watch a movie or a show of Universal i always look for that house and the munsters house i think the house was also used in the tv show called despite housewives
The second version they build for 1997 New Leave it to Beaver was in Desperate Housewives! This one had already been moved to the back lot off Colonial.
You can tell that the house is in serious disrepair, and the property surrounding it has certainly changed (for the worst) 😐
That music they played over the house today you'd think it was haunted or someone was murdered in it.
Was that a Corvair in their driveway?
Yes
The house no longer looks like that. It has been rebuilt and moved back to the old neighborhood, just in a different position. It was used on Desperate Housewives. It was fixed up in 2010. Here is what it looks like today.

+TEDDINGTON TELEVISION Thanks for the update it looks great.
The house you are referring to is a replica of the original fascade, but unfortunately not the original LTB prop that is seen here falling apart in the backlot. The replica was used in the LTB Movie and the Bill Engvall Show, as well as Desperate Housewives, like you said.
This was also used as the Brady Bunch house and as Monica’s apartment on Friends.
One of the things that always "gets" me is that everyone always completely forgets that "Leave it to Beaver" was revived as a weekly series in the 1980s under the title "The New Leave It to Beaver" ("Still the Beaver" in its first season). The show ran for 100 episodes and was pretty good having featured most of the original cast (minus Hugh Beaumont who passed away before the show started), the only reason it has been forgotten and isn't in reruns is because of a botched distribution deal that put it in legal limbo. With that said, this house would be the house used for that series, and it is my understanding it IS the original 1950s/60s house as well. The house was moved in 1988 for production of the Tom Hanks film "The 'Burbs", which used the lot the house stood on to construct a "dilapidated" house for the film (Tom Hanks' character actually occupied the house that had been owned by Wally and his family in the revival series). The revival series moved to Florida that season for what would be its fourth and ultimately final season. When they made the feature film "Leave it to Beaver" with Janine Turner as June in 1997, they built a completely new house, which still stands today and was part of "Desperate Housewives"' Wisteria Lane, and is shown on the Universal tour. It has a distinct different appearance from this house and is much smaller. These houses are all only shells by the way...they move them around quite a bit with little effort. BTW, the house from "The Munsters" original series still stands as well although it has been remodeled for another production.
Everyone forgets? No, plenty of us remember the 80's shows.
Mr. Cleaver rated a Chrysler 300 with all features. Wally rated a 55 Chevy convertible. New Interstate battery, please.
I love Leave it to Beaver
such a shame that it looks this
way now......
THIS DAY RECORDED FOR GOD 11
I know this house was a lot nicer than the first house in seasons 1-2, but I liked the original one better.
Maynardcat....it wasn't refurbished. The new house was a totally different structure, while the old facade was taken to a remote backlot.
It appears they've made many changes, remodeling and rebuilding for different shows. Another link en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colonial_Street
All the houses on the back lot like this are just façades, not actual houses. All the interior shots that are supposed to represent inside the "house" are filmed on a sound stage.
Wasn't this house used for other shows? I dream of Jeanne? My 3 sons,?
The Partridge family. If not, it is the same street. I surprised the house still stands.
They never actually filmed inside this house.
Check this link....it does a good job explaining the history of this facade.
That's progress. Money rules.
I know it was just fiction and all, but I hate seeing the house like that. That was a great old show and was done so well. It is sad.
Also sad that Leave it to Beaver is now one that yt is after, as if anyone will pay 1.99 to watch an episode on here from the Shout Factory goons.
Why not? Too cheap to pay?
Looks like nobody's home..
What are the coordinates?
I am surprise it being a tv house
I would pay $5000 to just be able to spend 24 hours in that house
I am thinking with a house that big , They could have had their own bed room , were there only 2 bed rooms in that whole house ?
ralph goober if memory serves, they have a guest bedroom
Because Beaver and Wally had to have scenes together. Herp Derp.
Disgraceful that this piece of American history has been left to rot. And they lie on the tour and tell people that fake house is the “Leave it to Beaver” house…something should be done to save the real house!
WOW!
Who knew.........?
So sad to see this iconic facade in such disrepair....someone please fix it up! Unfortunately, this is not the same facade that was used in Desperate Wives. That house is an updated version of this original one, but if you look closely, they are quite different.
It isn't that different when you compare them side by side , they improved it's looks considerably adding more style with the heavier architecrual trim, nicer windows and architectural roof. It was a little bland looking in the Leave it to Beaver series. I think the did an excellent job of refurbishing it.
As others have noted, it is a completely new "building". It is a reasonable copy of the original 3-dormered house. The original is sitting in disrepair, as shown in this video, way down at the southern end of Univ Studio's property, past the War of the Worlds plane crash set that is part of the tram tour. Both houses can be seen on Google Earth and other satellite views.

Not possible since it is not a real house--only a shell.
Why Ward was so cheap not to buy June a dishwasher, I’ll never know😊
if i ever visit there i'd like a selfie of me in front of it kool and tour it inside of it it is also some houses were used as a practical set as well means that they can film out and inside of it
So, was the house just a prop on a set?
It was a real, and complete house inside and out built in a fictional neighborhood. I have links in the above information box about the history of the house and the back lot. It was a complete but fictional neighborhood with nice finished houses, streets, landscaping and built just like a real neighborhood all for the sole purpose of using for movie making. Today they can create the illusion of neighborhoods on a computer, back then they had to actually build them.

That's not the same house. Look at the upstairs windows compared to the real house.
Look on Wikipedia for the real one
Well that was depressing AF

You just don't get it.
@@v-town1980 No I do get it. But they are letting it dilapidated. When they moved the production of The New(still) the beaver to florida they stopped using that exterior and it hasnt been used since.
